whoever first made the “hating popular things doesn’t make you interesting” statement on this website is going to hell forever. the damage that statement did…..insurmountable

i just think. people act like such babies when something they enjoy is criticized by others and doesn’t that kind of take away part of the point of enjoying something…….like sure i get being defensive if people are being overtly rude about it or if it’s something really special to you but like in general on the whole people act like saying something as neutral as “i don’t like x movie” is some extreme act of snobbery and cynicism. it’s seen as like a genuine character flaw nowadays to just. have preferences. literally every single person on earth has at least once watched a really popular movie or show and been like “eh” and vocalized that to others. that’s part of the FUN of engaging with art like you get to DECIDE how you feel about it and the way people act like anyone who dare voice their dislike for something popular is just an evil little worm is so corny and lameeeee
