If you enjoy our show, maybe leave us a rating over on iTunes? We really appreciate it!
Yay! New episode is up! I’m really proud of this one. We played a lot of games this year, and then got together at the end of the year and played several of them AGAIN. This is, in my humble opinion, a super duper great way to make sure you get your money’s worth from board games.
So "ovenable" is a word, I guess?
Uhh. Ok.
We hit 100 likes on Facebook! To celebrate, @oldbie played with his dice. #dice #d20 #boardgames #tabletop #bgg #boardgamegeek #gamenight #instaBoardGamers
Every month, my friends and I pick a board game and play it over and over, as much as we can. Then we get together and record our thoughts about our time with the game. It’s not a great formula for producing quick and easy content, because we can only do one episode per month, but I honestly feel like it’s the best way to review the staying power of a tabletop game. Most modern board games are not cheap, and they’re meant to be played multiple times. This is a really important part in determining whether to buy one.
Unlike video games, it’s pretty difficult to binge-play a board game. They’re usually multiplayer, and grown-ups’ schedules are tricky; my co-hosts and I all work full-time, Dave’s job requires him to work nights, Geoff and I have kids and partners, and we don’t live as close to one another as we used to. But doing the show means we have even more reason to prioritize our play sessions, hang out with one another, and dig deep into what makes games important to us.
I met these guys back in middle school, almost a quarter of a century ago, and we bonded over Dungeons & Dragons and Super Nintendo and Warcraft II. It’s a testament to the importance of play that games remain an integral part of our friendship, that they still help facilitate our get-togethers, and make up a big percentage of the stuff we talk about it.
And, every single month when I edit the show, I’m stoked as hell to share it with the world. Here’s to the next milestone!
Don’t let’s start.

When a game doesn't necessarily LOOK like a game from the sidelines, you experience a phenomenon we're calling "Sherlock Holmes-work". Full episode is up at dicesection.com.⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #boardgames #tabletop #bgg #boardgamegeek #gamenight #instaBoardGamers #sherlockholmes #sherlock @asmodee_northamerica

In Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective, you play as the Baker Street Irregulars, and help Holmes with all manner of errands. Some more above-board than others. I'm super impressed with the components for @greaterthangames/@dicehateme/@darrell.louder's FATE OF THE ELDER GODS. It doesn't look much thicker, but: FotEG punchboard on left, unnamed Lovecraftian game on the right. The FotEG pieces feel so much better. #boardgames #bgg #tabletop #dicehateme #cthulhu #lovecraft
