Organizational Communication

For some reason, our organizational communication class keeps reminding me of this scene from the movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.  It shows the importance of the environment and how any one instance can change a person's life.  This could be linked to the presentations that we listened to in class today because if anything had gone differently in any of the stories that were told, there may have been an entirely different outcome.

This is a cool video that shows various forms of communication throughout history and how communication has changed dramatically. This video shows how advances in communication (and other technology) have been key to the  rapid globalization of the business world.  

This article discusses 2nd order change and what organizations can do to help their employees adjust to these changes. I found it particularly interesting that 2nd order change affects the employee's personal identity.  

I enjoyed how this image showed how complicated globalization is and that there are both negative and positive aspects of it.

I typed in "neoliberalism" into Google images and got decidedly negative images and cartoons.  This is interesting because our book states that neoliberalism was one of the main "utopian aspects" that globalization was thought to bring (399).  What are your thoughts on neoliberalism?

The idea of "constant change" seems like it would be exhausting for an organization.  It was interesting to me that this was such an important concept in the different movements.  

The book discusses Richard Edward's systems of organizational control.  These systems include simple, technical, and bureaucratic forms of control.  Which do you think is the most common form found in our society?  Do you think there is one system that is the most effective?

Our discussion about social media sites during Thursday's class reminded me of this "60 Minutes" video that I saw a few months ago. It is pretty long, but very interesting. At 7:00, is probably most relevant to class. What do you think of facial recognition technology?
