OKIDO ILLUSTRATION COMPETITION

Dinosaur issue is now closed but there's still time to submit for our Seasons issue...

Spot The Difference The March issue of OKIDO magazine is all about Dinosaurs, May issue is all about The Seasons. We are calling out to all artists, designers and illustrators to come up with an illustrated page for either of these issues of the magazine.

Can you come up with a beautiful Spot-The-Difference page? You know the drill: two almost identical images with up to eight  hard(ish)-to-find- differences. The magazine appeals to children aged 3 – 8 so keep the content relevant for this age group and don't forget to include any necessary text.

The prizes The winning pieces will be published in their relevant issues and fully credited to the artists. Both winners will each receive 10 copies of the issue that their artwork is published within. Both winners will be featured individually as part of OKIDO's social media content, to include links. OKIDO will also select a shortlist of their favourite entries which will be exhibited in central London after the winners have been announced, where all entrants will be invited along.

OKIDO Artwork Submission Guidelines Format (all measurements in mm) Full Page: 210W x 230H All files with colour running till the edges of the page must include bleeds of 3mm on all sides. Full Page (w/ bleeds): 216W x 236H. Please note that any detail in the bleeds will be cropped when the magazine is printed. Margins We strongly recommend you fit all of the relevant content on the page within certain margin of 12mm on each side of the page. Digital Files OKIDO is printed using four-colour process. Artwork may be submitted electronically in one of the following file formats: TIFF files • at least 300 dpi resolution at print size• • colour mode must be set to CMYK or grayscale• PDF, Adobe Illustrator or EPS files • colour mode must be set to CMYK or grayscale• • fonts must be embedded or changed to outlines• • please include all imported artwork whether embedded or linked• • any embedded rasterised artwork must be at least 300 dpi resolution at print• We do accept JPEG files but they are not recommended • at least 300 dpi resolution at print size• • colour mode must be set to CMYK or grayscale• • JPEG quality must be set to maximum•

We are having a party for our new HAIR issue. Please join us on Sunday 9th Feb at Doodle Bar in Battersea, there will be fun and workshops for all! We have The Mighty Booth with a vast array of wigs and facial hair to create your perfect new look and The lovely girls from Play-o-logy will be bringing their AMAZING inflatable digestive system!

Last week were we extremely lucky to be invited along to the press view of 'The Energy Show' at the Science Museum! 'The Energy Show' is a theatrical experience for families with children 7+ and is full of experiments with plenty of explosions and fire (we're pleased to say). We took our 12 year old boy and one of his friends and worried it might be too young for them when in fact, it was just right! 

The show centres around 2 science students, Annabella and Phil (who are both women! Hooray for women scientists!) embarking on a race against time to prove their knowledge of energy through a series of live experiments. Both actors were fantastic and kept the kids entertained throughout.

During the show there was also a projection explaining the scientific proccesses through animation. This was inspired and really aided the science and learning behind the show. A 3D 'i-nstein' character helped the 2 students through their live experiments and helped inform the audience of the more nitty gritty science behind all the flashes and bangs.

The show was definitely not short on experiments and its ambitious to say the least to try and explain all 7 forms of energy! Among the boys' favourites was the exploding nitrogen bottles (for the bangs) and flaming methane bubbles (see photo, enough said). Lets just say, they don't hold back and fingers definitely need to be in ears!

The level of the science was ideal for our 12 year olds and may be more of a challenge for the little ones but there's plenty of excitement and enthusiasm to get any child interested in science so for us this is a must-see and a resounding success!
