I've talked about it before but I LOVE that the Impostor's Shot Through the Heart event rewards you for telling him that it's HIS turn on the identity now. Literally drive it like you stole it

In the manga, Imposter uses the phrasing of "the lives I've sacrificed" seemingly pertaining to the identities they've adorned. It's implied they've done unsavory things in the past in order to successfully skinwalk others, which can easily be interpreted as them literally taking people's lives in order to take their identities.
However, due to the particular usage of the word "sacrifice" as opposed to something more overt like "taken", (obfuscating their time as a Remnant as that wouldn't be what they're referring to in this context) I instead headcanon that they utilize missing person cases to evade homelessness and in general as a conduit to exist as someone tangible in society.
It's still an incredibly dubious and scummy thing to do, which would add credence to the immense shame they harbor over the truth of the nature of their existence. Reaping the benefits of a warm place to stay, of fresh meals and preexisting relationships to slot into for a false sense of belonging and care, of celebration for the long awaited "reunion" of someone long since accepted to be gone... Isn't it pleasant to experience all of that without the burden of permanence? To know you will inevitably have to leave it all behind. Conversely, isn't it heartwrenching to know it doesn't truly belong to you? That any affection expressed is ultimately based within a farce.
Of course, this wouldn't be the case for every single identity they've impersonated; it's only a convenient option which takes into consideration the issue of a prospective person to impersonate still having a presence in the outside world, which would put a more prevalent expiration date on the longevity of the identity they're currently wearing. Which isn't to say there isn't an expiration date on impersonating these missing people... "Caught in an endless cycle of doubt and suspicion"... Of course those loved ones would be happy to finally receive closure, but logically, does it really make sense..? Taps my nose cheekily.

I think one of the biggest tells about Ibuki's shame surprisingly enough comes from this really powerful and important moment in the last of her FTE's.
It's important to note that she starts this off by saying she's embarrassed to be saying any of this at all, how she really doesn't want to admit it but feels as if Hajime is making her talk about it. Which feels so weird given this is really insightful and personal advice someone like Hajime needs to hear, a way of life you could say Ibuki also lives up to with how she acts!
Yet in the next moment she just as quickly backpedals and says she was only joking. Even breaking the fourth wall since it's the last event, so she had to say something impactful! This has led to some people fully believing it was only ever intended to be a joke, but I think completely brushing off this interaction feeds into exactly what Ibuki is looking for. She knows it's not typical for her to be so serious and she needs Hajime to not take it so seriously either.
Opening up to say something that's probably a very personal thought for Ibuki, something she clearly thinks is important enough to say it regardless of how embarrassing it is, means she has to be vulnerable with her feelings. She is opening up in a very real way, Hajime even acknowledges that he's never heard her sound so serious before. It even comes down to Ibuki saying "I" statements, which ends in her quickly coming back to what "Ibuki" thinks. Because Ibuki wouldn't think this way.
Another example is when she helps out during the trial, only to immediately self correct as Ibuki wouldn't say such a thing. She purposely discredits herself despite offering helpful advice. I said assume, but Ibuki would never say assume! In a strange way it defeats her own ideals about self and authenticity as she is actively trying to remain to some standard. It leads me to believe she's shameful about being serious in any capacity, more so having her emotions be out in the open.
Besides going into what "Ibuki" does and wants, she also openly admits to avoiding thinking heavily about her feelings. Anytime things are personal or heavy she blatantly admits she doesn't want to spend time sitting in those thoughts. Hell, this even shows in her FTE's as a whole. She's one of the only characters who puts the attention on Hajime and his feelings, rather than having to help her through her own. Almost a majority of what Ibuki does is outwards, to uplift those around her and keep the attention right where she wants it. The concern shouldn't be on her, it should be for the people around her.
It's to the point where she has even been described as the nurturing type by others, and I wouldn't be surprised if this was some other added standard she has in mind to live up to. Added on by how her music seems to be from the view point of other people and never really about herself. There's an entire manga chapter about her writing songs about her classmates and making them all emotional as a result.
The only time we really do see Ibuki fully exposed and open is during her concert, with the intentions of cheering up her friends she performs "From me to you" with the hopes of bringing everyone's spirits up. This sadly ends up flopping, besides for Hiyoko at the very least, but it still is a major let down for Ibuki. Everyone is very honest with how much they can't stand her music, to then just as quickly move on to help Akane.
After pathetically trying to thank everyone as they leave we get Ibuki letting them all know how she feels after everyone, besides Hajime, leaves. We even see her be a bit selfish and seemingly not care about what kind of danger Akane is in, going against the nurturing caring type she's been identified with. She was vulnerable with her friends and they were nothing but cruel and judgemental in return. Ibuki gets sick pretty quickly after this, but I'd assume this moment would only reinforce her mindset to keep the things that matter to herself.
The last thing I'll go over is Ibuki's "Shot through the heart" event, where Hajime gets the ability to read her thoughts. One of the prompts is Ibuki getting self conscious over the idea of holding hands and being open with Hajime, to which she assumes it will only gross him out. You're given the option to agree with this doubt, where Ibuki is already prepared for such an answer. She's obviously shameful and anxious about opening up, yet the blow isn't as devastating like her bombed performance as she is already prepared for his disapproval. It's not as serious, and she doesn't need to feel so hurt if its expected.
What I personally take from all of this is that Ibuki is a very exaggerated character. I don't think she's necessarily fake, but she is absolutely performing to some degree to keep true to how everyone sees "Ibuki". Anytime she lets any real thoughts slip past she needs to play it off as a joke, raw vulnerable emotions have to be pushed aside with the risk of being hurt. She is always prepared and has walls built sky high in order to keep these insecurities protected and out of sight. She admires others that can be honest and authentic with themselves because she can't offer that to herself.
ibuki gundham gigafriendship forever & they annoy the piss out of each other
YES TRUE!!!!!!! TRUE TRUE TRUE !!!!!!!!! it's my own self indulgent take on it but I think they're both furries so they kind of bond over that but are in different categories of the fandom. like gundham is just obsessed with animals so staying true to real life species is very important to him.. he over thinks breed differences and how things would operate in a animal dominated world (not even necessarily anthro he's like a therian lol) meanwhile Ibuki just thinks about OC lore and AMVs making the evil wolves in her brain fight and play. Would love giving dogs hair, piercings, clothes, wings, etc and Gundham can't help but think it's kind of stupid. They usually can get along for a little bit until they start discussing powers and magic and how Ibukis angel demon wolfdog can't possibly defeat the lord of ice I don't want to play anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my one complaint and deranged thought is that I actually want Imposter to be kind of evil and mean I see it in their soul and I want 2x2 to give me this. I don't even care how it shows up either through sick desires forced out through insecurity or having the thought that the end justifies the means . twogami you need to get fucking crazy

I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on Ibuki-pony and MLP x DR generally. It's amazing how well Ultimate/SHSL talents translate to Cutie Marks...
TYSM!!! it's quite funny that I had the same exact thought while watching!! Thinking to myself oh wow their ultimates are pretty similar, huh? (which also leads to a lot of those same insecurities showing up lol) so it really is a lot of fun to think about!!!!!! truthfully I also am not very far into pony lore so I only have basic thoughts, a lot of this was also thanks to my partner who is a pony pro so thank you Arin!!!!!
Ibuki specifically would be a pegasus to me just on how they'd be skinnier smaller ponies due to the ability to fly (they must be pretty similar to birds...) and the thought of playing instruments with hooves and wings sounds much more impressive. Ibuki being a one man band kind of compares to that extra effort you wouldn't see a unicorn struggle as much with. Also the concept of her flying around moving constantly zipping around clumsy and messy is so fun β₯οΈβ₯οΈβ₯οΈ adds so much to her spontaneous behaviors !!! For her cutie mark too I had the thought that it actually appeared much more like an acoustic guitar to match with her SHSL light music club member talent, but she got it tatted to give more of the appearance of an electric guitar. Paying tribute to her old band members while simultaneously evolving into her own genres.. it compares very similarly to how a lot of characters feel about their titles and it's fun to explore!!!!!
