For a man who worries over his legacy like Percy does it's really something to see his letter. y'know ofc he loves his family, ofc he'd do anything for them and barring the fact that he was preparing for his death for so long as to have the thing prepared and all, the whole letter was very sweet.
But Percy is a man keenly aware of his own impact on the world, even putting aside the gun thing. As he said in ep 36, the legacy of His Whitestone, where he- and all his family, every single resident of Whitestone- lives as long as Whitestone lives, is something that keeps him up at night, something most of his actions have as their impetus. He, noted responsibility shirker, keeps coming back to Whitestone, putting in effort for Whitestone, taking responsibility for Whitestone and, and that's why he totes The Nameâ„¢ out there all the time. It's big, it's long, it has immense weight and meaning and in those 7+ names reside every single whitestonian that came before him, that lives now, and that will come after him. Every hand that helped weave Whitestone into being, every hand that helps the tapestry grow, and the hands that fix the shuttle or spin the wool are all there in his enormous name, and he takes very much pride in it. But even that is yet another one of Percy's masks. Even as genuine as that one can be, Percival Fredrickstien von Musel Klossowski De Rolo the Third is a mask, one of the closest to his heart but still
and yet, despite all that, he signs that letter 'Percy, of Vox Machina'. Just Percy. Cuz that's his dearest legacy right there, at that moment. His place in Vox Machina, his place in this family, and all the love and care he has for them that wouldn't fit in the paper. No masks, no posh bluster, no overbearing duty, just a man letting his friends know that despite having so much more to focus on, despite the looming end of the world threat and his ancestral seat and his sister and Whitestone, that this little ragtag group of assholes was the best of it, was what mattered most at the end. That even now in death he trusted and loved them enough to just be Percy with them. And god they loved him so much it brought him back.
