9.best thing in their life?

“DO I REALLY HAVE to pick one?” lisa queried, a small smile playing with her lips. she felt it was unfair to have to pick one, because some things you just couldn’t compare. what was better, really, doing a job that she loved or having friends that she cared about dearly? it was both, one wasn’t better than the other. “magic,” she decided. “magic is the best thing in my life, because it gives me everything i love: the friends i met at hogwarts, the job that i love, the world that we seem to take for granted sometimes.”

LISA ISN’T MUCH FOR music, if she’s being honest. she can enjoy music on the radio and will stay around to listen in case someone performs in a bar or pub, but she doesn’t know much music herself. it usually is nothing more than background noise to help her work when she can’t listen to silence and the sound of her quill hitting parchment any more. “my father says that some coldplay songs remind him of me. it’s this muggle band he’s been into recently. i don’t really know ‘em, to be honest. but they must’ve been on the radio,” she offered. 

18. when was their first real relationship? how’d it go?

HER FIRST REAL RELATIONSHIP was when she was nineteen years old. she agreed to go on vacation with her father michael, his second wife and her half sister michelle one last time. surely, she was too old to go on family vacations, but after graduating she decided to spend some more time with the family. when they were in spain, however, lisa met a young man, twenty years old, who stole her heart for the summer. they tried long-distance, but they knew it was never going to last. lisa’s made her peace with that. she never really talked about it, either. 

24. opinion on horror films?

She blinked up a couple times at the person, waiting for a response patiently. It was clear they expected to say more, but she had already said her (brief) piece, so there was no need to say much else. It was then that a rather familiar figure came up to where she was set up, taking up the empty space across from her. They left quite promptly after, no longer curious because she wasn’t alone anymore, and she watched them walk away.Without missing a beat, her attention shifted over to the warmer presence of Lisa, a gentle smile coming up to show on her features. 

“That’s fine,” she reassured, shaking her head as she let go of the page she had been thumbing at, “I was about to take my cake and tea break.” Luna set the books off to the side slightly, bringing her tall glass closer. She really was about to take one of her regular 10 minute break to let everything properly wash over her - and she decided she could afford more than 10 now with a friend in front of her. “It’s okay, they were probably just curious!” She sipped gingerly at her iced tea before continuing. “It’s extra material for my next field visit. We’re off to Thailand in the next week, quite exciting actually… Here for bar talk and gossip?”

It wasn’t often that Lisa caught her (former) housemate anywhere, which made it even nicer to run into Luna at a place where they could actually catch up. Sometimes it happened to Lisa that she was at the Ministry of Magic for an interview and ran into someone from school there, only not to have the time to catch up with anything beyond how have you been? i’ve been well, and you? because both of them would have other things to tend to. “What are you working on?” Lisa asked, eyeing the books that Luna set aside briefly. She couldn’t read the words on the spines of the books in the light of the Leaky Cauldron from where she was sitting. “If you’re sure you can take a minute, I would love that,” she said. She took a sip of her own glass of butterbeer as she took in Luna, opting not to comment on the (for Lisa) stranger that had stopped in front of Luna’s table. Whatever they wanted, they seemed to have forgotten about it for now. “Thailand? That’s amazing. Have you been travelling a lot recently?” Lisa supposed that was what magizoologists did; travel the world to study species of magical creatures. “I’m not much for gossip,” she said, shrugging her shoulders lightly. “Unless it’s actually based on something that has serious news value.” Lisa considered herself a serious journalist and therefore refused to listen to any kind of gossip. “Why, did you hear something?” she added with a smile. “There’s not much news here, which is probably a good thing. Means I can take my mind off work. Do you usually study with other people around?”

13. best accomplishment?

LISA CONSIDERED THE QUESTION briefly, eyebrows frowning. she knew there was more than one thing she considered an accomplishment worth mentioning; she found it difficult to put them into perspective and weight the one against the other. one thing had been more difficult for her personally: graduating. hogwarts had changed, but she went back regardless. she worked hard to learn to live with what happened to herself and her friends both and learn to remember that it was over, now. but realistically, the best answer was the accomplishment that was more unique. “working my way up at the daily prophet to become a reporter,” she said proudly, a smile on her face. “i started as an intern, of course. and now i’m doing my own interview and writing my own pieces!” 

26. do they have a certain aesthetic or style?

SHE WASN’T SURE TO interpret aesthetic or style as something that someone made the decision consciously to change and be, or that it was just the way they were. in her case, aesthetic could be her passion about her work as much as her style of clothing, she felt. “maybe my aesthetic is always ready for work,” she joked with a smile. it was true; her mind was usually on work, and questions always came to her. “i like to think as my style as classy and casual. a combination of the two would be perfect.”

Perhaps the last place anyone should be reading or doing any research was at a particularly rowdy wizard’s bar  on a Friday night - but Luna Lovegood was doing just that. Tucked away in  a booth at the corner, two books open before her and half-consumed cake and iced tea just slightly off to the side. Granted, she truly did find concentration in such a space. The buzz of warmth and unending unintelligible chatter served as a pleasant way to fill up the space, to keep her head rooted firmly where it should’ve been instead of wandering about like it always would. It was why she never liked to visit the silence of the library.

So she was used to the occasional stares; sometimes people would pause and ask what she was doing. Which was why she knew the person was standing by the edge of her booth for a bit now. Luna had grown accustomed to ignoring many people, but once they hit a time threshold, she knew she had to say something. “Yes?” Her voice was light, genuinely curious, as she finally looked up from her book to face the person.

friday night, lisa found, was the best night to find stories in the leaky cauldron. loads of people went straight to the bar from their work, ordered their usual drinks and met up with their usual crowd. stories told themselves after a certain point. as she entered the bar after having dinner at her own place, however, it wasn’t anyone in particular with a story that drew her eye. instead, she spotted a person standing at the edge of a booth, eyeing the woman sitting there working. it was odd, yes, but that didn’t mean people had to be rude about it. the moment lisa recognized the person that was working at the booth, she decided to interrupt. showing past the person (she would use her height as excuse if it was commented upon), lisa proceeded to sit down in front of luna, a smile on her face. “hi!” she said enthusiastically. “i see i’m not the only one in the right mind to use this kind of atmosphere for work.” with that, she put down her notepad on the table as well as her quill and leaned back, looking to see if the rude person had disappeared. they had, thankfully. “sorry if i interrupted,” she apologized almost immediately. “that person just kept standing there. i had to do something. what are you working on, luna?” the blonde and her were friends; not the type that met often, but surely the kind that caught up with each other when they saw each other.

THE YOUNGEST WEASLEY WAS MID SIP WHEN SHE HEARD LISA’S WORDS, “same! those pesky things just…always getting away.” naturally she used a charm her mother taught her most of the time but STILL. “besides it’s just hair and if i hate it in a few weeks, i could always charm it back.” one of the many benefits of being a witch but so far she LIKED it. “an interview?” this peaked the ginger’s interest as she cocked a brow, “where at? you’ll nail it, i can already tell.” she threw the other a grin before motioning for the bartender, ordering a butterbeer for lisa and another firewhiskey for herself. “well. as a young girl they were always my favorite team. sometimes my brothers would say ‘quidditch isn’t for girls, not really.’ they were just naive and i think intimidated them because at the age of four, i could already ride a broomstick better than they could. but for awhile i believed them until i stole one of ron’s quidditch magazines and i came across an all women’s team. i was utterly transfixed. it was the holyhead harpies and i don’t know. they’ve always been an inspiration for me so getting to play for them is a literal dream come true.” she was gushing and her cheeks were rosy, grateful that the bartender had come back with their drinks, “merlin, SORRY. i’m very enthusiastic about quidditch, as you could probably tell. i get what you mean about work being busy but it’s good to be busy. distracts us from how fucked up everything is, hmm? i’m alright, can’t complain. practicing a lot.”

lisa was glad to hear that she wasn’t the only one struggling with losing hair ties. by now, she was convinced there was a magical land that they all disappeared to. “good point,” she said with a nod when ginny remarked she could charm it back. “makes it easier to try different styles of hair. a swish and a flick of your wand and it’ll be right back the way it was.” so if lisa ever got tempted to cut off some of her hair, there was always magic. it sounded like something she could do when tipsy. the interview mention made lisa pull a face, while she smiled at ginny’s clear confidence in her skills. “oh, it’s about shacklebolt resigning and the rumours about the new candidates. the entire prophet staff is obsessed with the news, i swear. they need to get the scoop.” elections were, apparently, a joyous time for news makers.  as ginny started to talk about quidditch and her choice for the harpies, lisa was an eager listener. this was the kind of thing she’d love to write down, but felt was too personal to end up in the sports section of the prophet. now it was just genuine interest. “that’s so great,” she said. “quidditch is a dangerous sport, but whoever said it isn’t for girls must never have seen a match of the harpies. the team is great. did you ever consider playing another position than chaser?” was there any such thing? lisa didn’t know, but she guessed ginny would tell her. taking the butterbeer over from the bartender, she smiled gratefully and took a sip before turning to look at ginny again.“keeping busy is good,” she agreed. “albeit my kind of busy gets me involved in politics and whatever else there is news about, so i should probably find a hobby to get it out of my system,” she added with a chuckle.   

THE YOUNG WEASLEY BEAMED AT THE COMPLIMENT, “well thank you. it definitely feels more fitting.” at the question she gave a shrug of her shoulders, “not in matches, i mean we wear helmets and i always just tied it back but sometimes for practices, i like to feel the wind through my hair as i fly. so now i don’t have to fuss about pulling it back.” it really wasn’t THAT big of a difference, many of the girls on her team had long hair and were still some of the greatest players in quidditch history. “right answer. what’s your poison tonight? on me.” ginny insisted before chuckling and sticking newly shorter locks behind her ears, “listen, ask me as many questions as you’d like. i love my job and could go on about it for hours, really not a bother. so come on then, enough about me. how are you?”

personally, lisa was quite fond of her long locks. but just because she preferred her hair long, didn’t mean she didn’t understand why other women would want to wear it shorter. it was just a matter of what fit them. “it’s actually quite smart. i always lose my hair ties. the other week i bought ten and i already lost two.” she shook her head a little at that. whenever she needed a hair tie, it just mysteriously disappeared. sitting down beside ginny, lisa smiled at her. “just butterbeer, thank you. i got an early interview tomorrow. what are you drinking? the next round is on me.” that was only fair, especially if she just got to ask whatever question she wanted. “what made you decide to join the harpies?” lisa questioned, immediately forgetting about telling herself she wasn’t going to ask questions. “i’m good. work is busy, but that’s exactly how i like it. never too busy for an evening of going out, though. how are you, other than the haircut?” 

“finally chopped off all my hair.” the youngest weasley said to the person nearest her, “i’ve always wanted to, easier for quidditch. anyways my mum was so FURIOUS she started balling. being properly dramatic over just bloody hair. spat out that i looked ‘exactly like george now!’” there was silence, the ginger furrowed her brow as she thought about her late brother, finger running along the rim of her glass, “and then she started crying for a completely different reason.” she threw back the remnants of her drink before turning to the other, “anyways. i need another drink, care to join me? guess it’s one of those days, eh?”

lisa had to do a double take as she walked into the leaky cauldron and saw someone with - short - red hair. then the woman spoke, and her eyebrows furrowed as she studied ginny. “well, i think it looks nice,” she decided. “does your hair get in the way for quidditch?” lisa had never played quidditch herself. she had written about it, sure, and she finished her flying lessons, but that was where her quidditch experiences ended. she wasn’t good on a broom. “i could do with a drink,” she agreed tentatively. “do correct me if i start asking you questions about the harpies. this is not meant to be about work but it’s not every day i come face to face with a player.”

has PARIS BERELC been spotted at diagon alley? no, that was LISA TURPIN, the TWENTY-TWO year old RAVENCLAW alumni.
