past:
the eldest out of the five children of augustus and theresa nott, theo was born with lots of responsibility and expectations. his mum was.. distant. she’d always rather be elsewhere; and when she was home, she’d spend most of her time in her room. his dad was obsessed with his work, with keeping up the family name. public image meant everything to him, so augustus nott made sure everybody else knew what a perfect little family they were, when the reality was quite the opposite.
while theresa was distant, augustus was more so.. dismissive. very much a ‘my way or the highway’ type of person. no fucking around. never satisfied. you got a good grade? oh, well, too bad because it could be better. you wanna talk about your feelings? fuck off and grow a pair. very much logan roy tbh. at first theo did try to please his father - he’d go on social events and business meetings, smile and laugh and joke here and there, speak like he’s supposed to speak; he’d try to bring in good grades; he’d learn a spell to repair the very expensive vase he broke.. but none of it mattered because none of it was enough. so theo opted out for doing whatever he wanted. in fact, he’d do his best to defy his father in almost every way, to spite him.
when his siblings came along, theo would do his best to provide for them the love and emotional connection they would never get from their parents ( but shhhhhh, no one is supposed to know theo nott cares about something ), especially after their mum left. thinking back on it, theo should’ve known sooner. he shouldn’t have been surprised to come home on the winter holidays just to see his mum had packed all her stuff and left for good. marti, his youngest sister, was 1 at the time. theo wanted to blame and to hate his mother, he did, but he understands why she left. he’s still mad at her, though. he’s visited her a few times at the states. he saw her get remarried, settle in with her new family. eventually, she stopped writing and he decided to let her go.
theo was.. quite the nightmare at thiudreiks. spent more time in detention than the classroom. fights were something frequent; at some point augustus stopped sending howlers because there was no point. theo’s behaviour and his relationship with his father got only worse when theresa left. while not admitting it, augustus was quite affected too. at some point, he blamed theo for his own mum leaving. their relationship had its ups as well, though, as theodore grew up. augustus would confide in him sometimes, his way of bonding being sharing a scotch as he shares some insane story from his youth. theo does love him, despite it all. though he still would love to punch his dad in the face one day.
personality & headcanons:
it’s a well known fact that augustus is a blood purist ( ‘tis our ancestor who came up with the pureblood directory!!!!!1 ) and tries to instill those beliefs into his children, but theo truly couldn’t care less. yes, he does believe he’s better than everybody else, but not because of his blood status, but because of his own abilities and personal qualities. humble king
one word to describe theo would be chaotic. he's very unpredictable, you never know what he'll come up with next. he doesn't think how his actions will affect those around him, he doesn't think of the consequences because that makes it more fun. not only does he love getting into a mess, but he loves figuring out how to get out of it.
authority figures do adore him, though. theo knows how to play up his charm. it's part of why he gets away with almost anything.
he's a punch first, ask questions later type of person. known for having a short temper sometimes, but he's just as quick to forgive and get over it.
has decent grades; would be better if he actually put in effort, but quidditch is all theo cares about.
values his freedom a lot, so can be a rebel without a cause and defy others just for the sake of it.
not as much of a bad person as he seems; but he'd rather break a leg than show people he's got a heart.
