Mon-El pressed his lips together, nodding. “Mhm.” He wasn’t buying what she was trying to sell but he was fine with harmlessly letting her believe she’d convinced him. He exhaled softly as she shared her thoughts with him albeit he didn’t interrupt her at any point. “I get where you’re coming from. I do. But I was really just being polite to her, nothing more.” The Daxamite gave Kara a small smile and walked over to where she sat, armed with the cutest pout that made his smile grow a little wider. He crouched down to be level with her and took one of her hands in his, stroking her knuckles with his thumb. “Now why in the world would I want any woman but the one sitting in front of me?” He lifted her hand to kiss it. “I came here with you to see where you grew up, to get to know the people who are important to you. To share in your happiness. Flirting with other women wasn’t on the list—” A chuckle slipped out before he became more serious. “Babe, it’s just me and you. No one else in between us. Ever.” Would this be all the reassurance that she needed from him?

Share her love? Mon-El blinked. He stared at Kara in mild confusion until it was made clear what she meant when she brought his hand to rest against her abdomen. It was as flat and as toned as it had always been and there were no physical signs that he’d noticed over the past several weeks to indicate pregnancy. Of course she would know before he did! “Oh.” Mon-El visibly melted at this wonderful news, his expression no longer one of puzzlement but one tenderness and love. He kept his hand there under hers, knowing they wouldn’t be able to feel anything but it made his heart soar knowing that it was possible that there was the tiniest flicker of life growing within her. A life that they were to nurture and protect, together. “When did you…?” His question trailed off when he looked up and met her eyes. Those beautiful, sparkling comets he could spend an eternity staring into. “—You’re really pregnant?”

kara was going to wait to tell him. after all, she had was a missed period and some queasiness as proof. she’d discreetly made an appointment with the healer in argo to confirm her suspicions before she got her mother’s and mon-el’s hopes up. they’d been trying for the past few weeks since they’d moved to argo, but the process had been slow. after all, they were both adjusting to a new way of life. kara had gone back to her to her love of history wanting to document the time that had been lost during krypton’s destruction. while, mon-el had decided to rebuild zor-el’s lab. argo was starting to feel like home. however, her nauseousness had not subsided for two weeks now and she was eight days late. that had to be something right. she wrapped her arms around his neck an iridescent smile on her lips. her eyes full of love as she gazed upon him. “ I don’t know for sure yet, I’ve only just missed my period and I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather. I have an appoint with nora-vex later on today, would you like to come with me? “ she asked hopefully.

kara had come to EARTH-1 to help barry and his friends againstthe thinker. after, imra had told kara she was essentially a failure,she had decided she was not USEFUL back there on her earthand come here to see if she could be of any help. however whenshe’d gone toe to toe with a meta. she’d froze, sunk to the groundas tears fell from her eyes. barry and cisco cleaned up the mess andshe saw her friend lean down and wipe her eyes.

      Mon-El took the watch from its box and fastened it around his left wrist. Afterward he examined it, admiring the detail and craftsmanship put into the device. He noticed that his name had been engraved on the back of it in his native language and a wave of gratitude and love came over him for Darla. He’d really missed her while he was gone. He sniffed quietly before looking back up at Kara, folding his arms across his chest and adopting a relaxed posture. The man’s eyebrows knitted together; he seemed taken aback when Kara confessed to eavesdropping. However, he remained outwardly poised. “Imra’s not… entirely settled into this timeline. She’s not one for social gatherings outside of the team,” he said, lowering his gaze. He didn’t mention that his wife also felt awkward inserting herself into conversations or situations with Kara and her friends when it was unrelated to hero business.       There was still a bit of a rift between the couple since he admitted to being uncertain of his feelings for Kara and she told him of her and Brainy’s ulterior goal. They were trying to work things out. Aloofly, Mon-El stared ahead and replied, “In the beginning it was nothing more than a marriage of convenience but in time it grew into something beyond that. I think us having been partners in battle for so long made the transition into lovers… easier. A lot less complicated.” He said nothing more on the matter because he’d noticed that Kara was on the verge of tears and he wanted to spare her feelings. Then there was the fact Kara had established that they weren’t going to discuss Imra or his relationship with her. Personally, Mon-El preferred it that way. The mood had changed from light-hearted conversation to them walking on eggshells and they both could sense it.       Keeping emotional distance was his coping mechanism but this time he was struggling to remain stoic when Kara was clearly hurting. He wanted to comfort her and so he bit the bullet. He unfolded his arms and reached out to the Kryptonian, placing a hand gently on her upper arm. Normally Mon-El would have issued an apology or commented that he understood how how hard this was for them both but there would be no more of that. “Sacrifice is something is that I learned from you. And I remember what the Music Meister also taught me—you have to be grateful for those who love you and are willing to go the whole nine yards to show you that they care. I know now that I should never take anything for granted.” His eyes softened as did his expression. “Together we have this amazing chemistry and I know that you and I are a force to be reckoned with.” He offered her a little smile. “We’ll be okay, Kara.”

kara was fighting to RETAIN her composure. she wanted things to be normal again between them. but she didn’t know what the new normal was. was she supposed  to hide the fact that she was still DESPERATELY in love with him? she was doing just fine till he mentioned how he and imra had transitioned into lovers, then she  felt her stomach lurch painfully. “ yeah we’ll be FINE. I’m just not sure I’ll be “ her voice was broken after that. she felt like she could create NO SOUND. she got up from the bar stop shrugging off his hand. “ excuse me, I-I can’t breathe “

      His restlessness and levels of stress was what made adjusting to domestic life with Kara a bit of a struggle. He wasn’t used to having much moments of leisure. For him, free time consisted of training with fellow Legionnaires and honing his fighting skills to improve himself in battle so that he was always on the top of his game. Mon-El was known to have been emotionally distant at some points in his marriage but Imra had not seen him in the same light as Kara had when they were together so she accepted her husband’s reserved demeanor and quiet nature to be the norm. The years had worn him down albeit he remained as vigilant and tactical as ever. There were many reasons why the Daxamite was deemed the strongest, most efficient fighter in the Legion; without fail he continued to pass down his knowledge and his experience in battle to those who fought by his side. Kara was currently one of those who sought to learn from him.

      His lips could be seen curving into a smile when she referred to him as poetic and he sat still while enjoying the kisses to his neck. “Blame Shakespeare and Poe for my love of poetry and literature.” A moment later she was lifted up by him with her legs cradling his hips and they were suddenly flashed over to the bed in the blink of an eye via super speed. He lay Kara down on her back and sought her lips in a hungry kiss as he hovered over the more petite form beneath him. Soft, open-mouthed kisses were trailed from her mouth to her clavicle while the digits of his right hand meticulously undid the buttons of her shirt. Mon-El did not pull open the garment all the way but just enough to press kisses within the valley of her breasts. He picked up on the sound of her breath hitching as he did this and in an endearingly curious manner, he put an ear right over her heart to listen and see if that part of her was also effected by his actions.

mon-el wasn’t the same man kara had fallen in love with. he was FAR MORE mature, he was incredibly SELFLESS, and all the more RESERVED. she missed the more  goofy side of him, and was touched when it would blossom right in front of her eyes. she wasn’t going to coax him into anything. this was a new relationship far different than the one they used to be in. back then, she’d be the one that peppered him with advice while he simply adored her. now they were equals each supporting each other and learning for one another. it reminded her of the relationship her parents had on  Krypton, the type of relationship she had always craved. 

      Mon-El let out a snort and scratched along the underside of his jaw as he grinned. “I’ll confess that it’s not so much irritating anymore. In time you really grew on me.” He nodded slightly afterward, his grin fading to a lingering smile that faltered as she mentioned how he must have struggled during his time in the future. “Yeah, it was hard,” he admitted, sounding emotionally drained but not letting the conversation get heavy all of sudden. “We’re making a difference to the people who need us so that’s what matters.” Truthfully, Mon-El wasn’t hungry nor did he really have an appetite (even after having been in hyper-sleep for so long) but Kara seemed enthused to spend more time with him and he didn’t have the heart to make an excuse this time. “Sure, a platter sounds amazing. Oh and potstickers, too.” The man smiled at Kara for another moment or two until the sound of Darla calling out made him turn his head to seek out his friend. 

      She waved at him from where she was near the karaoke area then vigorously began to gesture for him to go over there. He could tell she was drunk; she was just swimming in booze that night. It reminded him of the old days where they would get drunk together and talk for hours into the morning after the bar had closed. “Excuse for a moment, would you? I have to make sure she’s drinking responsibly,” he said to Kara with an amused shake of his head. When he went over, Darla threw her arms around him in a hug and they spoke at length afterward. At some point she handed him a small square box which he slowly opened after she prompted him to. He appeared speechless upon seeing what was inside and she was practically jumping up and down while he stared at her in absolute bewilderment. They spoke for a bit longer before Mon-El began to steer Darla to the exit, keeping an arm about her waist so she wouldn’t topple over while they walked and soon they disappeared out the front entrance. 

      Someone had called her a cab and he wanted to make sure she reached the vehicle safely. When he returned, the Daxamite lacked his denim jacket but looked to be in higher spirits. “She proposed to me,” he said, taking the box she’d given him from the back pocket of his jeans to show Kara the elegant silver watch within. “She asked me to be her best man and I was shocked because, well, I’ve never been to a wedding except for the almost wedding with Lena and then my actual wedding…” Darla made him promise to attend her wedding or else she’d hunt him down. So he would do his best to be there unless the Worldkillers decided to be inadvertently become wedding crashers. “It’s a nice watch but it’s also kind of ironic,” he said with a quiet chuckle. He was always keeping time it seemed.

      Usually whenever Mon-El and Kara were in the same room, their eyes would often drift and focus on each other—whether in unwavering stares or fleeting glances. These exchanges would convey a maelstrom of emotions they both didn’t want to address so they tiptoed around it. But how many times could he tell Imra ‘I don’t know’ whenever she asked him about Kara before she eventually called him out on the obvious lie? Whenever he was around the Kryptonian he tried to shut out that part of himself that made him feel everything all at once for her. It made him feel emptier inside than he already did. Sometimes traces of the old Mon-El would resurface whenever they spoke like they were now. Sharing smiles and memories like old friends. So easy was it to humor Kara, to see her eyes twinkle and her adorably bashful side come out. His burdens felt lighter to bear just from him hearing her laugh. “That stubborn attitude of yours,” the hero commented, wholly amused at the bit about the sisters training together.

      “It was always so irritatingly endearing to me.” It was one of the first things he found attractive about her back then. His nose scrunched slightly as he lowered his head and laughed. God, it felt good to laugh with her. “I’m sure our training will yield more positive results. Especially since we’re on a more even playing field now.” He went silent then, his smile slowly fading as he pondered over her question and at first, he was… hesitant. Like he wasn’t quite sure how to respond. Being near her was difficult enough (in regards to controlling his underlying romantic feelings) and to be alone with her at the loft… Like before, Mon-El decided that he would try. Try and be friends despite the circumstances. What would it hurt to hang out more outside of the hero business and catch up with each other? At last, he replied, “I would love some Chinese food.”
