being in a new town made stevie feel like she was an entirely new person. still, she didnโt totally know how to be her own self. in the back of her mind there was always the question of jamie. whether or not he was okay, whether or not it was a mistake moving miles away. but no, she was doing this for herself, and as she laid on the beach, towel laid in the sand, eyes closed, waves crashing in the background, she couldnโt help but feel like the world felt a little bit more like it belonged to her. that is, until sand hit her.ย โare you kidding?โ she sat up, wiping it away from her eyes, trying to look for the culprit.

( young madchen amick ) โ โ stevie blake has lived in somewhere for one month, which is crazy considering they are only twenty three. ย you can usually find her working at the somewhere diner, or laying on the beach. when i think of ripped jeans and cropped tops, the smell of lavender honey cakes, curly hair tied back with a bandana, i canโt help but think of them as well.

tw: abuse and drug mention
born and raised in london, england.ย
she had a fairly normal life at first. from what she remembers of her father, he was caring and kind. he was a businessman somewhere downtown, but she didnโt know him long enough to remember what he did.ย
her little brother, jamie, came into her life when she was 4, and immediately he was her entire world. she was protective over him, especially when it came to their mother, whose moods were ever changing. even at the age of 4 stevie knew to watch out for her.ย
at 8 years old, she was diagnosed with leukemia. her father took her to all of her doctorโs appointments, jamie would sit happily by as she got her treatments and tests. all while her mother stayed home, and pretended like nothing was wrong.ย
she recovered at the age of 10, and it was at 11 that her father left for good. leaving her, and the now 8 year old jamie alone with their mother. at the time, she didnโt know that her mother had been using since she had gotten pregnant with jamie, but as she got older and she started to understand the world a bit more, she could see who her mother really was. that she was sick, and that her and jamie were in trouble.ย
the dip in her moods were horrifying. jamie and stevie would come home from school and hide whatever she could use to hurt either of them. but it wasnโt enough. there was always something they missed, and it was always jamie who she went after. the one who said had taken her life away.ย
at 16, when their mother was gone on one of her binges, they packed everything up, and they left. stevie had been saving up all of her paychecks from her waitressing jobs, and jamie had started doing odd jobs on the side. most of them having to do with helping the instructor at his dance school with classes, where he could be paid under the table and also attend the school for free. everything was perfectly planned. at first they stayed at a friendโs house in london, until she saved up just a little bit more, and moved her and jamie to france. and then eventually, she met a man.ย
he took to her immediately. he was rich, he had connections, he could get her and jamie american citizenship and they never had to worry about their mother again. she listened, and both her and jamie were on the next flight to the states, and within months, they were both citizens in new york city. and stevie, at 18 years old, was married. jamie got a scholarship to a dance school after a few calls were made, and he spent more of his time there, while stevie was stuck in a marriage she did not truly want.ย
he reminded her of her mother. his mood swings. the way he would take things out on her. she was counting down the seconds until she could get out legally, without her citizenship getting revoked. at the age of 20, she got out. but not on her own accord. apparently, he was involved in some other, shadier things, and he was sent to jail. for life. no chance of parole. she, in turn, was able to divorce him without being afraid of consequences. however, she got no money or assets out of it, and she was back to waiting tables to get by. not that she minded. so long as jamie kept his spot in school, which he did, she was okay.
ย stevie stayed in new york for a bit, if for no other reason than to be close to her brother and to make sure he had somebody. but when he got into juilliard, and he seemed to have his own life, she had no reason to stay. add on top of that theย โno chance of paroleโ thing might not necessarily be true, and she had a recipe for wanting to leave. jamie would be safe, he didnโt care about him, he never did. and he had no way of knowing where he was now.ย
so, she took a series of busses down to somewhere, florida. it was ironic. considering it never felt like she belonged anywhere, why not move to a place where they couldnโt be bothered to give it a proper name? little did she know it was a party town. she got a job at the diner, and at night, is able to live the life she never thought sheโd be able to live. one that was carefree, without fear.ย
