dae couldn't stop the laugh that shook his shoulders. chang and cheating? out of all the quidditch plays in the castle, she seemed the least likely to cheat. it was when he noticed that malfoy was clearly not joking around when his smile quickly faded and he shuffled his feet awkwardly. "yeah, now that you ask i did see her hexing my whole team." he quipped, the sarcasm was heavy with each word. dae wanted to give him the benefit of doubt, seeing as how his team just lost, but with that play from the ravenclaw seeker it could have happened against any house. "it was a clean game, she just got the snitch early, malfoy."
eyebrows raise and his interest is peaked as the other began to speak - though any hope that the hufflepuff actually had any helpful information quickly vanished. typical. the news of his aunt bella and friends finally freed was clearly a distraction, first the snitch and now actually looking to a hufflepuff for answers. "brilliant," he dismissed dae's comment with a roll of his eyes, arms crossing over his jersey. "stick with whatever it is you lot do and leave the humor for someone actually funny." it's possible, obviously, that chang just got lucky and spotted the snitch. he just wouldn't admit it - and he does what he does best and doubles down. "maybe it's the snitch that's charmed. i'll have a word with snape."

"ravenclaw's kicking ass this year." dae noted as he watched the students make their way back to the castle. he was sure that had to have been the shortest game he had ever seen and he couldn't help but be impressed by the ravenclaw seeker for pulling that off. "tell ya what though, i feel a lot better about our loss to ravenclaw now." he truly did not play for the win, it was just fun to play for dae but the hufflepuffs at least were able to put some points up and that caused him to be happy and proud for his team in this moment.
cho laughed lightly as she passed more ravenclaw students that cheered her on, ignoring the slytherins giving her foul looks completely. the joy of the win came as a relief - especially after the news of the azkaban breakouts. they all could use a bit of lighter things to focus on. at dae's words, she smiled as she approached the hufflepuff. "cedric was close in that match," cho said, knowing that her ex was quite the player himself. lots of the players were quite skilled at hogwarts. "but thank you, dae. i'm as shocked as everyone else that it ended this early."

"We'll get them next time as they say." He said as he sat on a bench with a book in hand. "Are matches always like this here in Hogwarts? Not that Quidditch weren't like this at Durmstrangs, I mean we had Victor Krum so that is saying something they just feel a little different."
"sorry it didn't go as long as expected," cho said with a small, smug smile - proof that she's actually not too displeased. how could she be? she's still on a slight adrenaline rush from the catch, and therefore, the win. "maybe next time," she corrects, pulling her ponytail a bit tighter. "i'll admit that victor krum is impressive." thoughts go to the triwizard champion, to last year in general, and her chest feels tighter. "matches normally take much longer - and i'm normally a bit more disheveled after."

"yeah, because chang is clearly cheating." they were barely in the air for a bloody minute before the other seeker caught the snitch. draco's not really trying to chat with dae, but he's needing to blow off steam and the hufflepuff just happened to be in his path. the sea of students was a better place to be than listening to his captain go off on him for the loss, anyways. "not that hufflepuff stood a chance either way," he ran a hand through his hair, eyeing the other. "you notice that witch do anything during your match?"

adrian sat himself as far from the stage as he could. it wasn't like he hated the open mic aspect of the festival, in fact there had been quite a few talented people to grace the stage, but with every talented witch or wizard, there were twice the amount of untalented. the current person on mic at the moment had his skin crawling. "i knew should have gone to the hog's head." he muttered to himself, shaking his head.
there were plenty of familiar faces in the crowd, most not wanted or welcomed by draco - but at the sight of adrian pucey in the back, he made his way to the corner. "how can you even fucking think with this racket?" the so-called singer was going to permanently ruin his eardrums. "we should hex him, put us out of our misery." he took another sip of his drink, thankful for the added firewhisky he poured in, as he eyed the stage. "hog's head isn't a bad idea, you know. i'd take almost anywhere else that i could get a drink."
Evgeni hovered, their foot just dangling above the ground where it swung down from their broomstick, other leg bent and tucked, making their balance already a little precarious. Some assigned book for...was this Charms? They'd been staring at the page so long it could have been Ancient Runes for all they could parse out. Being outside usually helped them think, but it was clear that was not happening now. They swear sharply when an attempt to readjust their position caused the book to drop from their grasp, and, not thinking, they reached to grab it. It worked, even if it also left them now solidly on the ground, the direct opposite of grace. Catching sight of someone else, they let themself sprawl on the ground dramatically. "Do not." They said, book forgotten. "Leave me to wallow in my own ineptitude."
to be fair, cho tried to stiffle her laughter at the sight of evgeni falling off of their broomstick. she failed, of course - a string of giggles leaving her lips as she hovered in closer on her own broom - but she had tried. she circled slowly, peering down at her fellow ravenclaw on the ground. "sorry, sorry - it'll be our little secret." if some of their other quidditch teammates saw, they'd likely use it against them, even if evgeni had won over most of them by now. they had suffered worse falls in quidditch, but there's still a slight concern as she eyes them. "you're trying to come for my position, with those quick reflexes." there's a small pull at her lips as she hovers lower, no injuries in sight, as her eyes land on the book they had caught. "and professor flitwick would be proud to see your dedication to the text, ev."

as pansy took a step into the brightly colored candy shop, the bell chimed. the intense fragrance of sweets hitting her like a brick to her senses. it appeared that honeydukes being her first stop was not as original as she had thought, the building was packed with students. the snake slid through the crowd, heading straight to her usual sweet of choice. "you can wait. or i can hex you, pick now or i'll pick for you." she snapped as someone stepped in front of her outstretched hand that had been reaching for a sugar quill.
"now if i was a first year hufflepuff, you'd have me petrified." draco popped the nicked sugar quill into his mouth, a smirk pulling at his lips as he looked down at the witch. though he's all tease - being on the other end of her wand is not something he wanted. if anything, he should be more terrified of her than some hufflepuff. "you never had a chance against a seeker, pans." he twirls the other sugar quill in his fingers before offering it out to her. the bright lights and giggling students were already giving him a headache. "hex me later, especially if it gets us out of here quicker."
there was something familiar and intimate about a book, even if you had never read it before. alice had skipped out on all other festivities, in favor of the familiar bookshelves of tomes & scrolls. it was a little busier than usual due to the festival, but it was comforting none the less. unsure how long she had had company, alice turned around to find someone lurking behind her. "oh, i'm sorry." she said, a look of surprise washing over her features. "was i in your way?"
"oh - no," cho offered a small smile at the other witch, rocking back on her heels slightly. "sorry if i startled you. just wanted a little respite from the crowds." she had left some of her fellow ravenclaws giggling over a horrendous weird sisters cover they witnessed at the three broomsticks. though entertaining, she found herself getting a bit overwhelmed - a bookstore was the ideal escape. looking over her shoulder, she peered at the various titles. "find anything good?"

following what we know of draco in canon, up until the events of harry potter's death.
he was right. all of these years that he's yelled after saint potter, warning him that he's no match for the dark lord, he was right. he knew he was even when he was taunting him, a smirk on his mouth underneath his fake dementor cloak. but there's no grin on his lips at the sight of harry potter, dead.
he tells others (and himself) that potter had it coming. that he knew what he was fighting, he knew he was on the losing side. it was only a matter of time. and it's true - but draco wasn't expecting it to be so soon. it always felt years, decades, away. this return of the dark lord, this defeat of the boy who lived.
he should have shaken his hand, back in their first year. he chose the wrong side.
draco is on the winning side. it should feel victorious, there should be pride - and there is. but under it all, his hands shake and his stomach churns. he expected the winning side to feel differently. he expected to feel like his father - chin raised, wild eyes with no doubt.
that summer, despite the pleas of his mother, and the shakiness of his hands - draco becomes a death eater. his father doesn't see why it's needed, and assumes it's a lack of the dark lord in himself (so he gets crueler, steps further into the obedient server.) but draco doesn't have a mission yet. he's just a recruit in the expanding team, in branding more fighters on their side when it's time to stand. it'll be no different than before, his mother tells him, but he can't get the feeling of his skin burning out of his head.
the mark gives him a sense of protection, of safety. he feels a bit untouchable. but finds that that's not the problem - he thinks of what he will be asked to do. childhood bully is one thing, murderer is another alltogether.
he returns to school his usual annoying self, but a bit diluted if anything. he's desperate for a bit of normalcy, whatever that is, and returns to quidditch and to childish insults in the library. it's a poor attempt that he might give up on, but it's working for now.
he tries to ignore the war happening outside the castle walls and the one that's threatening to tear him apart from the inside.

weโll follow pretty closely with what is known canon of cho - a young girl who was quite popular off the bat, a kind and curious student. a group of girls surrounding her, boys striking up games about quidditch. a witch who was not familiar with grief, with fear, with loss - until she was, until they all are.
this time, however, it's not cedric that dies. there's a shame in that relief, that he didn't didn't make it to that portkey. but there's grief for the other boy. she still knew harry - he was the boy who was a fair match on the field, who stumbled over his words as he asked her out, who was treated unfairly from the school at his involvement. he was too young for all of that, and certainly for his ending.
she's still the girl who cried in the classroom, in the skies, in her bed. a girl who was loyal through & through; even when the world mocks and discredits harry. this time she cries not for a lost love, but for a lost hope. even her parents, like everyone else in the world, had great expectations for him. and now they were left to move on and face the dark without him.
the world goes on - things end with cedric, she joins her spot as seeker for ravenclaw, signs up for 'potters army' ignoring the pleas from her parents to keep her head down and stick to classes when back at hogwarts. she's trying to be the girl she was before last year, but it's proving to be difficult.
personality.
once cho has deemed something or someone worthy ; sheโs completely committed. even when others change their mind, (other students making fun of harry during the tournament) cho stands by what she knows, what she believes to be true. she believes in the truth, in being loyal, in being just, in being benevolent. sure she will falter - can be judgemental, unkind, jealous - but tries to always center herself back on her morals.
cho is a ravenclaw through & through - relying on truth & dedication to ground her. however, no matter how intelligent the young witch is, she has always felt controlled by her emotions. it can be seen as a great gift to feel so deeply - but at times cho can slip into her own melancholy, causing her to pull further into herself. she was once a very sociable witch ( and still is quite well-liked generally ) but can tend to isolate herself from others, when it all gets to be too much. she can be seen as too much & not enough, sometimes at the same time.
she likes reading a book by a fireplace , flying on her broom , the smell just before it snows , cold weather , rain , spending time with her friends, a cup of tea with honey, potions.
