BEYOND

After a long practice Bonnie didn’t want anything but to grab a drink from Starbucks and head home to her bed. She walked in and stood towards the back trying to decide between her three favorite drinks which one she had a taste for more. Just as she was about to start getting in line someone bumped into her. “Umm excuse you.”

        “ pardon me, ” he spoke cordially to the stranger after his own fault of knocking into her. his reusable coffee cup he could so often be seen with was in hand, waiting to be filled with dark roast. the only way he could be anymore stereotypically british is if he were to carry around a cup of tea in fine china. “ my mistake. ”

“Does anyone else just have the urge to, like, indulge in as much food as they can possibly eat? Or is that just me.” Gosalyn wasn’t really addressing anyone in specific, looking down at her phone with a sigh. Something to eat sounded great right about now.

“I am so tired of school work.” she groaned, dropping her head onto the table. “I thought once high school was over things would be easier.”

“You can ask for it! I mean, I guess they do have it on the back and Margo is always ready to add ingredients if you ask nicely” he chuckled and felt himself blushing. “I…I do come here often” he shrugged. He was a bit lazy when it came to dinner and as much as he didn’t want to admit it, his diet wasn’t the best. 

        “ oh, thank you, then — again. is that the cook’s name? ” a unique name, he hadn’t heard it in years. it was polite to address people by their first names where he was from, though americans did seem to take that strangely. “ it was only a guess, ” the englishman shrugged, doing his best to make the young man feel welcomed and not embarrassed. jerry couldn’t say something was wrong just because he didn’t do it.

“thank you!” she said with a nod and a smile. “summer? are you a season? are we seasons?” she thought out loud and then it clicked. “oh…riiight warmer tones, colder tones, you’re right!” she giggled. This is why she could never be a good stylist. “I mean pink’s my favorite color from all time” she said with a big smile. “and it does suit you well.”

        “ exactly. i can’t imagine myself with green hair and i don’t want to. it works for some people, but not me. ” she shook her head adamantly, though she still smiled in good nature at the other. “ thank you! i don’t know what i’d do without it. anyone can be a good stylist with enough training. ” perhaps green would have looked good on her, she’d never know though. she was too stubborn and stuck in her own bossy ways to try something that drastically different out.

he sighed and nodded. “yeah, you’re right.” he proceeded to take a bite of his chili dog before he responded to wanda’s question. “i was doing pretty great. almost beat my score, too.” he frowned, disappointed with how things turned out. the game was still open, but he didn’t want to open it back up just yet. “i just wish the call didn’t interrupt it. now i don’t know how to get back into the ‘zone’, y’know?” 

deb rolled her eyes again, shrugging, “it might be mean, but it’s true, so.” she snorted, “yo, everybody wants to think they’re kids- or the kids they watch, whatever- are great. but, like, there’s probably like five actually good kids. kids are annoying and have snot and shit. and i know from experience too, my brother was a fuckin’ terror when he was a kid.” 

        “ just because you say it doesn’t make it true. ” though it was sort of a hypocritical statement, wanda held her head high. she’d obviously believe her own word over a cruel stranger’s. “ what about you? what were YOU like when you were younger? ” she countered quickly, her voice full of opposition. everyone was a child once. everyone threw hissy fits, too. that didn’t mean they were any less difficult to deal with — just that they happened.

Clover swatted the hand away with a scowl.  “Hair is power, Wanda.  How would you feel if you woke up tomorrow morning and suddenly all your pink was gone?”

        “ TERRIBLE. we’ve been over this, just because i won’t change doesn’t mean you can’t. ” a cheesy, knowing smile crept onto her lips. something about the way her friend reacted was the best kind of entertaining. sometimes the younger woman did get fed up with it, but that wasn’t just clover.

SAM: pass SAM: i’d rather choke but thanks for the offer

“i second that.” the woman nodded, feigning seriousness. though, by all means, she really was serious. “burgers are reserved for other establishments, like..burger king. or mcdonalds, quite honestly.” she remarked, then proceeded to check her reflection on her phone screen. “i mean, i’d still eat there, but they can go ahead and throw me out if they don’t like me referring to it as ihop still.”

“i’d say none. it’s not like they stopped serving pancakes, they just also sell burgers now. or always did.. and now they’re talking about them. burgers, burgers, burgers. mmm, meat.” he added, obnoxiously rubbing his stomach. he could go for a fresh off the grill ihob burger right now. “it’s a brilliant marketing move if you think about it, got everybody talking about them. they haven’t been in the news this much since the ‘50′s. all hail ihob.”

        “ they didn’t have to change their name. it’s confusing. i’ll feel weird ordering pancakes now. ” a wide, deep frown spread on his lips. he had no problem with people who ate meat. he had friends who ate it, went out to eat with people to ate it, and LIVED with people who ate it. only when their carnivorous aspects were shoved in his face did he mind it. “ quit it. if you like it so much you should go there now. ”
