โi thought we could start with someone who actually knows what theyโre doing,โ thalia sighs, sliding back in her seat. she certainly doesnโt. she was reluctant to dive right back into what had caused the groupโs rift in the first place, but knowing adam wouldnโt stop, with or without their support, was motivation enough. maybe, if they can just figure out what happened to his dad without chasing some mythical treasure at the same time, he can find closure. but she wouldnโt be out here, seeking out some mysterious historian, if henri hadnโt approached her first.ย
โmy mom knows him. kind of.โ she unbuckles her seat belt and cranks the car door open, leaping out of the vehicle because her legs donโt quite reach the ground.ย โhey, you didnโt tell don, right?โ thalia scrunches her nose.ย โi just think it might be easier to do this if itโs on the down low. if adam finds outโฆ i just donโt want him to get his hopes up again.โย
the look on adamโs face when theyโd broke the news about dropping the treasure hunt has haunted him in the days since. maybe thatโs why โ whenever donโs out of the house โ he has been looking a little more into the history of the town to try to find out just why adamโs dad would even direct them to a crazy ladyโs house.or trying to. snippets of articles published online by claudio morales, whose name he had seen scribbled onto the back of letters, documenting the townโs history behind a paywall. so, naturally he seeks out lia. their moral compass (and someone who heโs sure could take on a journalist/historian/whatever if need be).
โshe does?โ he quirks a brow, mouth pulling down at the corners to demonstrate that heโs impressed by alexaโs connections. โno, i have not told don,โ he scoffs, stepping out of the car after her. henri had considered it, though. at least four times. two of those just so happened to be in the car on the way over. โso relax, i donโt know how far the reaches of outer banks bystander gossip extends, but it totally wonโt be on my part that he finds out. donโt get me wrong, though! i donโt break my unspoken cousin code of conduct for just anything. mainly just... because i canโt stand seeing adam looking hurt, to be honest.โ just like a sad, grouchy, adam-shaped puppy. a frown tugs at his lips at the thought as he looks up at the building that houses the local newspaper, adjusting the cap on his head as if he needs to make a better impression on the guy when they head inside. โyโknow, i donโt know much about historians. other than like... that quote that says theyโre gossips who tease the dead. which, heh, newspaper... kinda fitting, huh?โ
