haru: how'd you come up with the title?

        neal tightened his shoelaces, rolling his ankle to prepare for the run he was about to go on. he had taken a few days break, mostly due to the storm and then because he had to deal with the aftermath. he was definitely ready to get back into the groove of things, and back into his regular routine. cracking his knuckles, neal plugged his headphones in and set off down the street. he’d only been running for a few minutes when a dog came up to him, trotting alongside him. once he finally realized that the dog was still there he slowed, crouching down to pet the dog. “hi little guy, where’s your owner?” he asked, checking to see if it had a tag on it’s collar. he hums, glancing around. “i should wait with you so they can find you,” he said to the dog and lifted the dog in his arms. he turned back in the direction he had came from and tapped on the person he had passed before’s shoulder. he already knows this is going to come off as odd. “excuse me do you know … whose dog this is? ”

        ten minutes after searching the street mr. pinky had run off to , haru was silently telling himself to cool his head or else he'd have an anxiety attack in the next thirty seconds and he'd be rendered completely useless . all he needed was to go back for the dog's favorite snacks and try to lure him out of wherever he was hiding in . he'd search the whole neighborhood if he had to , because his neighbors would kill him if they knew he lost their dog . after turning around , haru heard a voice in his general direction , and the words made him whip his head towards the stranger so fast he almost got whiplash . there , a fluffy poodle sat happily in a stranger's arms . haru could start crying .      ❛❛   m-mr. pinky ,   ❜❜      he huffed out in relief , moving to place his palms over his knees in an attempt to catch his breath . he closed his eyes for a second , then looked up at the other .      ❛❛   yes , that's uh , my neighbor's dog ... i was out walking him .   ❜❜      he explained a little breathlessly , moving to grab for the dog .      ❛❛  i almost lost my mind thinking i lost him for good , holy shit .   ❜❜

            “so, who wants to help me redecorate the basement of my house? it was completely destroyed in the storm.” yui was a little lost on what to do, she had never been good at decorating and she wanted to try and have a room that looked nice

     his  palms  were  sweating  at this  point,  but  that  didn’t  stop  him  from  falling  into  easy  conversation  with  his  best  friend.  he’d  be  lying  if  xander  said  this  is  their  first  time  during  a  thunderstorm  together,  as  more  often  than  not  he’d  find  himself  going  over  to  haru’s  place  whenever  possible  while  he  still  lived  with  his  parents  and  have  been  caught  outside  in  the rain  turned  thunderstorm  more  than  a  few  times,  always  counting  on  the  other’s  prowess  to  help  overcome  their  struggle.  the  younger  took  this  chance  to  crawl  up  in  the  bed  beside  him,  head  resting  on  his  shoulder,  arms  and  legs  finding  a  spot  over  his  body  quite  comfortably,  pouting  as  the  brunette  watched  him  type  away,  not  quite  focusing  on  what  he  wrote  but  rather  spacing  out  to  the  beat  of  his  music  until  the  phone  was  handed  back  to  him.  “  puberty  was  pretty  good  to  me,  huh ?  remember  junior  high  when  i  still  had  my  braces ?  yeah.  good  times.  ”  he  snickered,  before  pondering  his  next  question.  “  well,  of  course  i  would.  ever  heard  of  soulmates  ?  that’s  what  we  are,  right  ?  i  always  find  you  and  you  always  find  me  kinda  thing.  so,  yeah,  if  the  world  didn’t  let  us  meet  back  in  kindergarten,   we’d  find  a  way  back  to  each  other.  ”

        it was as if xander's words were pumped into his heart , making his chest feel incredibly weak yet big at the same moment . he knew that xander thought of him as a brother , best friend -- they'd told each other that several times . out of everyone in their lives , they had always been a constant to each other . when haru had no one else to play with in the playground , xander was there . when xander's problems got too serious with his family , haru was there . when they were gradually becoming the people they are now , even with time spent apart , they were both ever present . hearing xander say they were soulmates felt like the gears were falling into place and he could somehow understand something he never thought he wondered about the other . he took the phone back , shifting enough for xander to lay comfortably against him like it was second nature . he stared at the screen for a few seconds , then began typing away . 

HE TURNED AROUND to the familiar voice and saw one of his regulars inside the restaurant. well, he was mostly there for hansol, a coincidence he didn’t bring up to either of them. he didn’t have a lot of time to care for the private lives of his co-workers. the boy’s question came as a shock to noah. since he always worked for money and never free, he never understood the… kindness that people brought. “uh…. really?” noah asked, not sure what else to say. he snapped his fingers, trying to remember. “haru, right? well hansol isn’t here so i don’t know what do tell you, man. you have no one else to impress” he added with a smirk.

         he blinked , surprised , and felt his cheeks warm up . he knew he was about to stutter his way out of it , because noah just said something that was very obvious to haru , but shouldn't have been obvious to the other .      ❛❛   h-huh ?   ❜❜      he suddenly avoided eye-contact , entirely not sure on how to respond to that . did noah know ? how ?      ❛❛   w-what are you talking about ...   ❜❜      he chuckled nervously , taking a step further inside and letting the door shut behind him . he leaned down to a nearby chair , slowly picking it up .      ❛❛   i just want to help if i can , not trying to impress ...   ❜❜      he trailed off into silence , giving it another thought , and then dropped the act altogether . he looked at the other .      ❛❛   am i that obvious ?   ❜❜

it wasn’t getting any better for hansol while waiting for his savior to arrive. he felt a stinging sensation in his leg, and knew somehow it had been wounded by a stray piece of wood. he didn’t like looking at blood, and was sure haru wouldn’t like to look at it either. sol decided maybe one more tug wouldn’t hurt, but after doing so it did end up hurting him. he sat there for a few more minutes, clenching his fist in silence. his ears perked up after hearing the blessed voice of the boy he was waiting for. sol turned his head, “ the stairs! i’m stuck! come here now! ”

     ━  SMALL  GIGGLES  LEFT  SOOJIN’S  LIPS  AS  HARU  awkwardly moved around the excited pups running around him, trying to climb into his lap and demand all his attention. “always ready to party,” they giggled. “that’s so funny. i always consider them my kids trying to get in the cookie jar.” a pause, a thoughtful hum, “but you’re right. they’re always ready to party.” it didn’t surprise them when haru swiftly changed the subject. soojin always liked the little sessions spending time with haru brought, because it made them think and reflect on situations and scenarios that were in such a grey area of life that soojin never had considered it before. therefore they took a few moments to really think about the question before asking their own. “well, what type of crime is it ? do we think that there’s a chance of either of them repeating the crime ? is the fine just a result of him being more influential and ‘important’ than the poor man to the public eye ?”

the flood had left the city in a mess, which, well, was to be expected, considering the fact that his romantic soul called Lazarus out to move to someplace nearby the sea. as they announced that it was finally safe to return to their homes, lazarus first made sure to return his puppy home, and, once he was sure that it was okay, curiosity dragged him out to the library, wanting to see just how bad the building had been damaged. unlocking the door with the key that he had been trusted in, lazarus was greeted with an unpleasant sight - the floors were still visibly wet, some books had fallen from their respective shelves and were drenched in water, doomed to never be read again. “fuck,” he cursed, taking a step closer and picking up a dripping copy of stephen king’s “misery” - what a disappointment.

NOAH OPENED THE doors to the krusty krab and the sight of of the watery floors and the absolute mess of the entire restaurant made him want to quit. he thought he was going to be enjoying at least a little bit of time off but that morning he received the worst text from his boss: “noah. please clean as much as you can so we can get on with business. time and a half for your time.” there was no way he was going to clean but the time and a half made him get off his lazy ass and clean. he put his spotify on shuffle and started to pick up easy things like cups, plates, and condiments that were all scattered around the floor. then he heard the ringing of the front door. shit, i forgot to lock behind me. “sorry, dude. can’t serve you anything right now,” noah said without looking who was at the door.

        haru stopped at the door frame , looking at the absolute mess the restaurant was in . he'd heard from the news that this was one of the few establishments that received damage from the storm , and felt the necessity to come and check it out . it definitely wasn't because hansol worked there , and because haru knew how much his job meant to him , and because he was possibly trying to find an excuse to hang around . it turned out that the place was indeed in some sort of wreck , but hansol wasn't around cleaning yet . noah , however , was , and haru found himself staring back at him dumbly . they didn't always speak much , but haru was oddly comfortable around the other . it might've been the type of energy noah gave off -- the other didn't seem to have much time for things other than his business and it was a quality haru could appreciate .      ❛❛   er , didn't come here to eat ...   ❜❜      he brought his hand to the back of his neck ,      ❛❛   i know it'll sound weird , but um , i was wondering if you guys ... need some help with the cleanup ? it’s one of the few places in town that saw some damage , so ...   ❜❜

it was late and hansol just wanted to get his mind off of everything that had been going on these past few days. he wondered around, and before he could realize it he was face to face with an abandoned building. it was pretty intriguing, so he decided to explore it. he used his phone flashlight around the place, but started to get a weird feeling about it all. it was when he saw little black things crawling on the floor he knew it was time to go. since he had made it all the way to the top floor, he had to get back down to the first in the dark. his phone was quickly running out of battery due to the flashlight being on for more than thirty minutes. in the middle of the staircase he heard a loud snap, and felt his foot sinking into the old wooden step. after endless tries of attempting to get his foot out, he accepted defeat and shakily looked through his phone contacts. if he called laz he would definetly get a lecture and probably would never be allowed to step foot out of the house again. his thumb landed on a promising name and without thinking he called his favorite customer. “ uh, if i send you my location could you help me out? i’m kind of- ” sol felt something crawling on his back and screeched, “ fuckin!  bugs!  come here and don’t tell laz! ” he hung up and texted the other his location.
