The ceremony was beautifulâ As expected. Hal had been waiting for this day for years. But Alek had been waiting for this day for his entire life. The only thing more exciting than his own wedding day was his best friendâs. His brother had been the most important person in his life from the time they were toddlers. If Alekâs personality could be split into parts, it would be one part music, one part romance and one part Halâs best friend. Thatâs just how it was; how itâd always been. Everyone in the family joked about it. How Alek would be the first one to cry at Halâs wedding. They were right, of course. But in his defense, he wasnât just watching his brotherâs wedding. He was watching his best friendâs wedding as well. Two people he cared for more than life were vowing to spend their lives together. It was beautiful. It was perfect. It was better than heâd ever hoped.
By the time the ceremony ended, Alek was already stressing out about his speech. This was his moment. In every romance movie, thereâs always the best friend who makes the funny yet emotional speech. But Alek didnât exactly consider himself funny. He was a softie, a mush of emotions. He couldnât joke about Gen or Hal because in his mindâ They were perfect. This speech was something heâd been writing since he was eleven. Yet, even now, even ten minutes before the big moment, he found himself re-writing it in one of the dressing rooms. âMy best friendâ My brother. MyâĻ Hey guys. Did you know- Uhm. Sup dudes, does anyoneâ No.â He mumbled the intros under his breath up until he heard the door squeak. His eyes widened, hoping to god it wasnât time. Thankfully, his prayers were answered when Hal walked in. âDude! What are you doing in here? Whereâs Gen?â
with all the minutes there are in a day, hal firmly believes that it should be a lot easier to get five of them to himself. just five. he doesnât feel like itâs asking for too much, but thereâs always an espn reporter, or his coach, or his teammates, or his brothers. thereâs always something that absolutely cannot wait for five minutes. just five. he doesnât mind as much on his wedding day, perhaps because he wants to spend every single moment of it with gen. he hasnât been able to take his eyes off of her since he saw her walking down the aisle, and everyone else in attendance ( so, basically, everyone they know ) seemed to be similarly captivated by her. genesis had designed a wedding where she was the star, and hal didnât mind it one bit. as long as she was happy, and it looked like she was when he last saw her entertaining a huge group of their guests who were all complimenting her ( second ) dress and her makeup and her hair and the decorations.    hal tiptoed out of the reception hall without being noticed or flagged down by a single attendee. he swapped out his glass of champagne for whiskey ( not his first choice, but the open bar unsurprisingly didnât have his favorite canadian imported beer ) and wandered around the castle until he found the room where hal and his groomsmen had gotten dressed for the ceremony. âdude,â hal brightened as he nudged open the door and saw his brother with a pen and paper in hand. âgen is...getting a ton of attention.â he was still smiling as he said it, glad that she was getting all of her recognition and compliments and gushing. âso iâm having a drink and chilling out for a few minutes.â hal let out a sigh as he flopped onto one of the chairs in the room and tugged at his tie to loosen it a bit ( but not so much that it wouldnât be a quick fix when he needed to return to the reception and get photographed again ). âwhatâs up?â he wondered, glancing over at alek with a lifted brow. it was the first chance he had gotten to have an actual conversation with his best man all day.
