my high school art teacher was Obssessed with birds, every year we had to make art trading cards & each year she increased the number of birds we had to include
these are just some of my personal favorites
Just thought Iâd share this, www.wysp.ws is a great website to look at other art and also has some great tutorials/challenges!
This is probably one of my favorite pieces from my last year of high school art. I tried to push myself a lot artistically that year, both technique-wise and style-wise, and I tried to do that on this piece as well. I think what makes this one of my favorites, however, is the fact that I really had fun making it. I let myself enjoy the process, and really, I think thatâs one of the most important parts of it for me. If this is something Iâm going to be doing for the rest of my life (as I sincerely hope it is), I better be enjoying it and making the most of it!
Anyways, this is of course inspired by Over the Garden Wall, as that was my concentration for that year. I do not own these characters.
How to, step-by-step, make expressions mean different things by changing just one facial feature at a time. *shrug* Iâm not very good at explaining how I do expressions, I justâŚfeel out what kinds of muscles seem to fit and tweak those. And sometimes, ever so slightly, little adjustments could mean the difference between fury and euphoria.Â

Attention all digital artists!
Krita, an actual FREE digital art program, recently released an Alpha 3.0 version that features tools for creating âhand-drawn animationsâ.
If youâre looking for an art program with more advanced tools than Paint Tool Sai but donât want to cough up the cash, then Krita is your program. (However donations to support the people making the program are very much appreciated!)
I understand that when you first download it, the layout and tools can be a little intimidating, but donât worry. The program comes with a manual and there are tutorials on Youtube that can help you understand the basics.
Even if you donât want to download this program or donate, please reblog to help spread the word and tag people you think might enjoy this.
Edit: Also, there are different brush packs you can download here. And if you donât like this program there is also MediBang Paint.
Also, the 3.0 version is out now.
If youâre struggling with envisioning a fight scene, you might consider drawing inspiration from one of these martial arts videos:
Quarterstaff techniques in slow motion (could also be useful for up-close mage staffwork)
More quarterstaff, more fun and theatrical.
A bit of quick polearm fighting.
The music is painful and if youâre not used to watching fighting it might be hard to spot the hits, but full-speed fighting with sword and center-grip round (âVikingâ) shields.
SCA-style shieldwork for âheaterâ shields in slow motion. [Hey I know these dudes!]
Live-steel longsword tournament with some good talking between fights.
Not pumped yet? Â Have some full-contact, full-speed, live-steel Battle of the Nations lunatics. Â Living history geeks are absolutely the craziest geeks.Â
This is a pretty random selection but the point is that if youâre stuck on action scenes, Youtube and the many lunatics who are willing to get hit with weapons have your back.
This is a 6âł x 4âł piece I decided to do for the exhibition I posted about recently (you can find that post here). Originally, I wanted to use a postcard but, unfortunately, I couldnât find one with the vibe I wanted in time- that vibe being either antique or perhaps just that classic/vintage/50â˛s feel. So instead, I made a copy of a picture I took with my film camera over the summer and decided to draw over that. Back in middle school and high school, I used to draw a lot in class with colorful pens and highlighters, and I wanted to try to go back to that technique with a slightly different and more graphically geared approach. Like those old drawings I did skip pencil and go straight to permanent ink, which I find makes the process more challenging but a lot more fun as well. I have to admit, I was definitely inspired by this comic, but I also decided to do something I rarely do and draw a cowboy. Anyways, I rather like how this turned out, and I hope yâall can come to the exhibition and see it for yourselves!

I made this piece in my last year of AP art, which was (at this point in time) only last year. After 2 years of failed bleach experiments I finally got it down haha. It was also an experiment in patience; it took a great number of layers to get the lightest shades, but I had to wait for each layer to completely dry before I could start on the next. Normally, I donât do realism (or animals, for that matter), but this was actually a fun exercise in experimenting with different/not typical media. This piece is surprisingly rather small, only 7.5âł x 9âł; it was also done on black construction paper, with some chalk and colored pencil added to amplify the highlights. In the future, though, I should remember to start with the background and then move onto painting the subject. All in all, Iâm still fairly proud of how this came out :)
Jesus, how terrifying
