2-time Vezina Trophy winner goes through extended regimen to stay sharp after 14 NHL seasons

If you've ever wondered what Bob's pre-game routine is and just how much work it entails, its A LOT. This article details it all very well, but here's some of my favorite highlights:

-He skates on off days and for a long time before regular practices and game day morning skates, and does weight lifting after practices and between sessions.

-He works his edges religiously, in corporates Tai Chi and Hu Man Du practices, and can stand up from the splits on the inner edges of his skates alone.

-He has Lorentz and Okposo help him by shooting shots at him for almost an hour before actual practice begins.

-He beat out Patrick Roy as the oldest goalie to get a shut out in the 1st game of the SCF.

-Just...just this quote from Paul Maurice: “Some questions you don’t want to ask because then you may have to form an opinion,” Maurice said. “I don’t know the first time I saw it, but I’m leaving the rink after the pregame and I’m heading home, and I look down the hallway and he’s Olympic lifting in the hallway. He’s playing that night and I don’t know what the [heck] he’s doing, but I don’t need an opinion on that, and it’s really important that sometimes you just shut up and keep your eyes closed and keep moving.”

Hockey players don’t shave during the playoffs. They believe that letting their beards and moustaches grow brings them good luck. Most of the hair that Crosby grew on his face during his first playoff run was blonde. He dyed his hair black, including his moustache, so that he would look more like the older players.
