Painter witch tip
You can incorportate witchcraft into painting easily with:

- Mixing ashes from a spell with the paint
- Mixing salt with the paint
- Crushing crystals and mixing them with the paint
- Using moon water to put your paint brushes in

a guide to wlw period pieces on tv (film edition)
just a couple of references I had to draw for the vertebrate wing guide I put together a couple weeks ago
that main reference up there was traced/edited from these photos of crow wings. “edited” in that I emphasized a few feather bits that aren’t quite as “pronounced” on actual crow wings, but were drawn in for the sake of illustrating their general position. the axillaries, for example, were referenced from plovers, and the lesser/median primary dorsal-side coverts aren’t actually visible with the current position of the alula on a crow wing (I just wanted it to be clear that they exist)
any critique is welcome– there are still a few things I’m not 100% on here (such as how far the lesser coverts continue to cover the back/chest..)
EDIT: I showed the first ref to my art prof, and she assumed I’d forgotten the alula b/c I had it tucked back against the “hand”. I figured other artists (esp those less experienced w/ wings like me or my art prof) could accidentally make the same mistake on first glance, or even assume the alula feathers were just some extra-special coverts for the top of the hand. THUS I pulled the alula out so it’s clear that it’s a separate structure from the rest of the hand. this allowed me to shrink the primary lesser/median covert section to a more true-to-life size, since it’s now more visible behind the pulled-out alula. I also added an extra color for the alular quill coverts. I didn’t originally give them their own color b/c I didn’t think it was especially important for most artists to know abt them, but when I pulled the alula out and had to rearrange those particular coverts a bit, I figured it might help to know they specifically cover the alula
me: okay time to jump into the action scene
me: don’t say it
me: don’t say it
me: don’t say it
me: don’t say it
me: don’t say it
me: don’t say it
me: don’t say it

me: … “SUDDENLY”
My go-to fixes for this:
but before [Character] could [verb], ACTION!
[Character] was about to [verb] when ACTION!
but no sooner had [something] than ACTION!
but just as [something boring], ACTION!
BANG!/CRASH!/BOOM! ACTION!
“Character dialogue starting some sentence about–” ACTION!
Character’s internal monologue starting some sent– ACTION!
Narrator starting some– ACTION!
… ACTION!
Why extend your readers the courtesy of a ‘suddenly’ except to vary sentence structure?
Attacked [sentence starters]
Monster-themed for the most part, but feel free to change ‘it’ pronouns to something else for a humanoid villain.
“Settle down, you’re safe now.” “Who hurt you? WHAT hurt you?” “I don’t know what it was that attacked me.” “Did you see what they looked like?” “Please, help me. I’m hurt.” “All I remember are teeth and a whole lot of pain.” “I was sure I was going to die.” “I would be dead if you hadn’t found me.” “What the hell was that thing?!” “Oh god, please don’t be dead. Please don’t be dead.” “I don’t want to think what would have happened if you didn’t show up.” “Do you have any idea what did this to you?” “Was it an animal? A person?” “It all happened so fast.” “Stop screaming, I’m not the one who hurt you!” “You’ll be alright, just calm down and tell me what happened.” “I’m so sorry this happened to you.” “I’m not sure it was even human.” “That looks like it hurt.” “Help is coming. Just stay calm.” “Don’t just stand there, help me!” “You’re lucky I came by when I did, or else you’d be dead.” “You shouldn’t be out here alone.” “Wh-where am I? What happened to me?” “You never know what might be prowling around out here.” “Why would anyone want to attack you?” “Hey, can you hear me? Are you alright?” “A-am I going to die?” “We have to go before it comes back!” “I don’t even know why it left me alive.” “I-I need a doctor. Please.” “Damn, it looks like you pissed off a grizzly bear.” “It was you. You did this to me!” “Do you think it’ll come back?” “I-I didn’t get a good look at it.” “It’s okay, I’ll help you. Just don’t try to move.” “How do you know so much about monsters?” “You need to learn how to protect yourself.” “Honestly, it’s a miracle you weren’t torn to shreds.” “I don’t think I’ve ever been so scared in my life.” “You’re not going to die. I’ll make sure of it.” “Whatever happens to me, make sure the one who did this pays the price.”
Donotpay adds tool that automatically analyzes lengthy, terrible terms of service
Do Not Pay, the “robot lawyer” that can help you do everything from beat a traffic ticket to getting access to services for poor and homeless people, has rolled out a new service: “Do Not Sign,” a tool to analyze terms of service agreements.
While its true that these services are virtually always terrible, they’re not all the same. Do Not Sign will flag things like obscure clauses that let you opt out of data collection and binding arbitration.
Do Not Sign also flags the everyday terrors of these “agreements,” such as the right to change them later without notice, the right to stop providing a service without notice, and the fact that you assume all risk when using a service.
Do Not Sign uses machine learning to flag “warnings” and “loopholes” in these “agreements.”

It’s never too late to learn the right way to do things: button sewing technique via imgur → more…
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE
I feel like I just reblog this every time it is on my dash, with hope that one day I will stop being such a goof about sewing buttons.
You mean someone don’t do it like this?
Yeah I was taught to just sew them flush against the fabric. It didn’t work as well as I thought it should…
Yeah, I’m so downloading a copy of this post because buttons and I do not like each other.
I worked as a costume designer and assistant in a costume shop for 2 years and honest 2 god this will save your life.

Tip for all my student readers: if you’re too lazy to use a bibliography creator like NoodleBib or RefWorks, let Google generate your bibliography entries for you. All you have to do is google the article/book title in Google Scholar, click “cite” at the bottom of the search result, and copy either the MLA, APA, or Chicago cite into your word document.
Signal boost because omg how did I not know this in college?
Since registration is starting soon I figure this is ample time to remind the six people who look at my Tumblr that citing your sources is really important in college and that this will be your best friend forever.
If you’re in high school and want to go to college? Learn to source! You’ll be way ahead of the curve and it’s 100% more important than knowing what the hell a predicate nominative is.
I use http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/ to figure out how to cite for my papers, and it’s been quite useful for the three years I’ve been at this!
I havent seen anyone talk about this yet so im making a post.
So lets say you’re researching something for a paper (or just for fun) and the research paper you want to read is behind a paywall, or the site makes you create a account first, or makes you pay to download, or limits you to only 5 free articles, or otherwise makes it difficult for you to read what you want.
do not fear! copy the link to the article
go to sci-hub.se (the url is always changing so its best to check out whereisscihub.now.sh to find what the current url is)
slap the article link in there
bam! free access!
