So, I like to think that Gladys was aware of the werewolf gene on her husbands side // or at least found out because she saw him TURN one night and he ran off but when he came back she was obv like…. we gotta talk : / So this would mean she was FULLY PREPARED for the most part, when she had time to plan. I’m sure FP shared the information about the coopers & how they’re werewolf hunters !! and how they keep and eye on the Jones so she had to make sure not to be obvious & play the part of the doting ( kinda clueless ) wife, a part she played well. Often times, she would go out to collect wolfsbane from the blossom greenhouse ( idr if this is what it was i have to double check ) & honestly ?? kept a gun with her at times. She wouldn’t exactly need it, she didn’t think, but there was a small part of her that felt like she would need it, incase her life, her husbands life, or her sons life was presented with collateral danger. She worried about her son, Forsythe and having the gene —- but none of this came into full effect until FP died — and she blames herself. one night, she can’t reach him – she doesn’t know where he is & finally she gets a visit from sheriff keller telling her that her husband was found with gun shot wounds & that he had been murdered. The following day, Hal & Alice Cooper drop by with their condolences — and she told them they could keep them before slamming the door in their faces. It was a hard year for Gladys and Jughead Jones, & each year that passed, she had hoped & prayed that the gene would skip his generation — she would phone Sophie & Elsie asking if anything ‘ weird ‘ happened up there. She kept tabs & did research but most of all —– once the murders started resurfacing — the identical ones to when her husband was still alive, she threw herself denial & convinced herself it had been the riverdale ripper everyone had been up in arms about. She knew better. Gladys would ask Jughead to not stay out late with the underlying message of worry – but she doesn’t press. it’s not until BINGO was murdered, until wilma was sitting in her kitchen sobbing & Gladys had to sit there and comfort her sister while knowing what happened !! A week later, that she plans a night to go out of town for a day to make arrangements to leave town with her son & their dog. She tells herself it’ll be a quick trip and nothing could go wrong !! but once she returns, the house is torn up, there’s a dead boy in her son’s room & Jughead was gone. later that night, she realizes hot dog was missing, too —— and it would become apparent that she lost her husband, and her son to this virus. SO SHE MOVES OUT OF RIVERDALE the next week, after being pressed by police, the mantles, and then the coopers — she makes it out. She stays in midville with her parents for a few months,
