They had managed to pack everything up and get to their new apartment. His biggest surprise for her? It was perfectly located between Vera’s apartment and her dad’s home.
They’d settled in for the night and he could feel his nerves just ready to get the best of him. He had the box settled in the drawer beside him, eyes glued to his girlfriend as she got ready for bed. “You know, you’re the most beautiful thing I ever did see...”
Settling onto the bed with her cosy pyjamas on she settled in next to him, her hand on her bump as she looked over at him with a goofy smile on her face. “Yeah? then you haven’t looked in a mirror recently then sir.” she winked.
She was so uncomfortable during this pregnancy. “I love you Kol, I can’t believe how lucky we are.”
“Me? Pshhhh.” He shook his head, turning im his spot and sitting up a bit more. “I’m not as beautiful as you. But if you were going to choose a baby daddy, I’m glad you chose me.” He grinned.
He slipped his hand into his dresser, pulling the box out and hiding it before she could see. His hand came up to her bump, caressing it gently. “We are lucky. I’m lucky. My life was shit before you. And I know I’ve sabotaged it quite a few times, but I’m very happy you’ve given me another chance. With you, I’ve found it. My purpose.”
She let out a snort. “Best baby daddy out there.” She giggled, a truly huge grin on her face as he caressed her bump. She could feel tears coming to her eyes.
“You’ve not sabotaged it handsome, you really haven't.” She croaked, moving to place a kiss on his cheek. “I didn’t know love till I met you.. I didn’t know home until I spent that night in the shack with you.”
He smiled at her kiss, fingers pulling the small ring box out, popping it open for her to look at. Inside, a family heirloom. His heart beat heavy in his chest as he settled the small box over her bump.
“I love you so much, Phe. I want to do this. For real. And I’m hoping you want to do it, too.”
The ring was stunning, her eyes watered even more as she continued to look but it wasn’t the only bit of her that seemed to be watering. Her eyes widened. “N-No!” she stuttered out.
The baby was coming, right as Nikolai had proposed. She was in pure panic mode. “I- Shit I don’t mean no to marrying you, I mean not right now- wait i don’t mean that either!” She rambled. “The baby’s coming.. now!”
She said no. Confusion filled his features before she explained. Sort of. Tried to. His eyes widened as he moved the box away, pulling the sheets from them.
“What- like now? This girl’s got to have the worst timing!” He kissed her cheek as he pushed himself off the bed. “I’ve got the hospital bag ready to go. We’re fine. Healer Jo said to call her.” It was clear that he was panicking a little, voice frantic as he looked for his phone.
He found it in his jeans and pulled it out, dialing her quickly. “Hi, Jo? Yeah. Yeah. No, there’s water everywhere. Calm down? Oh- okay.” He hung up the phone turning to his girlfriend. “She told me to come down and for us to meet her at her office.”
“Gets it from her mum..” She laughed before gritting her teeth, trying not to double over with the pain. Taking a hold of his hand, grasping it tightly. “Yes.. by the way.. yes to marrying you.” She squeaked.
Pushing herself up she waddled over to grab herself some clean sweatpants so she could get changed before they left. “This is happening.. oh wow.. Kol..” she whined. “We don’t even have a name yet!”
He picked up the bag to go through it again, making sure they’d have everything they needed. He was nervous. Upir he could handle. Hybrids? He wasn’t sure what this would be like. His head lifted at her answer and he grinned. “I’ll put the ring on you after so you can’t punch me with it on.”
He took a deep breath, moving over to her. “I know. I know. We’ll think of something, baby. For now, we just have to focus on getting her out and getting her home.” He pressed a kiss to her cheek. “How are you feeling? What can I do to help?”
“I don’t think it’s the ring you need to be worried about babe I can promise you that.” Barely getting her words out as she doubled over. Grabbing a hold of him tightly. She could feel her fangs starting to get longer.
“Get this child out of me.” She growled, it was as if her words didn’t even sound human. She was pretty sure her eyes were amber. “We need to get to Jo now.”
He saw the yellow in her eyes and nodded, tugging her along to the floo network. He was glad he had already set it up, connecting it to Jo’s office the day before. “Just breathe, baby. Come on, up you go. We’ll be there in no time.”
He was shaking as he helped her in, grabbing some floo powder and stepping in alongside her. Holy fuck, they weren’t ready. Were they?
She took deep breathes in and out, trying to control herself. She had a high pain tolerance so really this all just felt like changing at the full but contained to one part of the body.
Gripping onto his arm as they made their way over to the floor, which she hated with a passion, before arriving at Jo’s office where she had to take a minute to stop herself from growling.
[Jo speaking.]
Kol felt his heart pounding in his chest as they moved to the office door. And at that moment, it swung open, Jo standing on the other side. “You made it! Ophelia, it’s time!” She moved on over to the young woman’s other side, helping to lead her to the birthing room.
“Labor pains are coming in strong. And fast.” He relayed information to Jo, hoping she’d understand. This baby was different. And this would all be much faster than what they were used to.
She made a bee line for the bed, making grabby hands for a pillow that she could bite into. The pain was strong and she was likely to break Nikolai’s hand which truly was the last thing she wanted to do.
Safe to say, the pillow erupted in feathers within seconds. Letting out a whine, complete with a pout. “S’hurts.”
“I’d expect nothing less. With the speed of the pregnancy, it only makes sense that the actual labor would be fast.” Jo moved to Ophelia, rubbing at her back. She flicked her wrist, the pillows multiplying and the bed starting to arrange itself.
“I’m going to need you to get on the bed, alright, love? Kol will help you. And then I can get a look and see how long you’ve got until you push.” Kol moved to her side quickly, hands coming to her side.
“Come on, baby. Up you go.”
Breathing through gritted teeth she nodded, holding tightly onto Kol as he helped her onto the bed. Clutching at the bedclothes she closed her eyes tightly.
“Can you just get it out of me please Jo? Please?” She whined. “It hurts, it really hurts.”
“I’m going to need you to relax, Ophelia. Then we’ll work on getting this baby out, okay?” Jo slipped gloves on, transfiguring Ophelia’s clothes into a hospital gown.
Kol looked absolutely freaked out, holding onto her hand. “Hey, you got this, Ophelia.” He watched Jo check her out and nod, moving to swap her gloves and grab a gown for Kol and one for her. “Yeah, you’re pretty much there. It’s moving fast.”
“Relax!?” She squealed, “How the fuck am I meant to do that?” Letting the tears fall as she turned to Kol. “This is all your fault.” She growled. She didn’t actually mean it.
“Can I push now?”
“Yeah, I know. I promise I’ll make it up to you.” He let her squeeze his hand and Jo moved to settle the gown up Ophelia’s legs a bit.
She nodded, giving her a smile. “Yeah! Yes. You can push now, Ophelia.”
Letting out a grunt she latched onto Kol’s hand as hard as possible, letting out a howl heard across the nations as she pushed with everything in her.
Letting out a whine as it did nothing, as far as she was concerned, she dropped her head back onto the pillows.
“Okay! Okay!” Jo nodded, rubbing at her knee gently. “That’s good, that’s a good one. I can see her head just ready to poke out, mama.”
“What?” Kol’s eyes widened as he leaned over to take a look from pure curiosity and then stood straight again. “Oh...oh, that’s a baby....” He swallowed hard and held her hand, nodding. “You got this, Phe.”
“You ready? Let’s push again, Ophelia. One...two...three.”
She was a little delirious as she let out a strange giggle pointing at him. “You’re face!” Before looking back to Jo when she mentioned pushing again.
Whining she mustered everything in her to push again. Letting another howl, albeit weaker and quieter than the last time. — she just wanted her baby
“So good! Good job, mama! You’re nearly there!” Jo tapped her thigh gently, looking over at the about to be new parents.
He squeezed her hand gently. “Come on, baby. One more push. One more and we have our baby girl.”
Taking a deep breath, she pushed; accompanied by a howl that was probably heard throughout Britain. She squeezed as tightly as she could on Kol’s hand as she gave it her all.
The minute she heard a cry her heart stopped for a split second before starting again. pup, protect, mine, ours, safe.
His eyes widened as he saw Jo take the baby into her arms, wrapping her in a small towel. She ushered him over to cut the chord and he blinked, looking over at Ophelia with a half-laugh, half-cry.
“She’s here. Baby, she’s here. She’s...she’s perfect.”
Jo moved to make sure everything was set, leaning over to hand him the baby. He took her in his arms, tears in his eyes as he turned to look at his fiancée. His partner. “Look at her, Phe.”
She couldn’t stop the happy tears as she watched her fiancé hold their little girl. The biggest smile on her face that she knew was going to be impossible to wipe off in any way shape or form.
“Hope..” she muttered, exhausted from the whole process. “We should name her Hope. I know it’s my middle name and all but seeing her now, she gives me hope for the future.” She rambled, blushing a little. They hadn’t really discussed names in length but she knew this was what she wanted.
He looked down at their little girl and then up at his fiancé and nodded. “No, it’s perfect, Phe. Like you. I couldn’t have thought of anything better.”
He extended his arms to her so she could take the little baby. Hold their daughter.

“The baby’s coming.. now!”
