“   so  ,  ”  the  brunette  begins  ,  sliding  in  the  space  next  to  the  other  and  plopping  herself  down  as  though  her  and  the  other  had  been  best  buds  since  they  were  children  .  because  you  see  ,  being  rita  skeeter  meant  three  things  ,  one  -  that  she  had  an  insatiable  curiosity  ,  two  -  she  had  no  sense  of  personal  space  and  three  -  the  ridiculous  idea  that  she  was  somehow  privy  to  everyone’s  information  .  “  did  anything  exciting  happen  to  you  during  the  break  ?  not  really  looking  for  anything  specific  but  i’d  love  a  nice  ,  fat  ,  substantial  story  that  will  a  )  break  hearts  or  b  )  give  nightmares  .  ”  @lumosreblogs​

“  oh  merlin  !  ”  the  wood  boy  exclaimed  in  hushed  voice  (  more  to  himself  than  anyone  really  )  hands  clutching  the  top  of  his  head  half  in  agony  and  half  in  anxiety  . “  a  horrible  thought  had  just  dawned  upon  me  ,  ”  he  mused  aloud  to  the  person  closest  to  him  ,  panic  clear  in  his  quivering  voice  . “  what  if  i  forgot  to  pack  my  broomstick  ?  ”  he  clutched  at  his  chest  with  such  desperation  and  urgency  that  one  would  think  he  was  suffering  from  some  sort  of  chronic  condition  --  though  the  only  condition  that  he  seems  to  be  perpetually  stuck  with  was  the  curse  of  overthinking  everything  . “  what  then  !  i  can’t  practice  with  the  school  ones  ,  they’re  absolutely  rubbish  --  no  offense  to  the  brooms  but  there  is  absolutely  no  way  to  succeed  with  them  !  let  alone  win  the  cup  !  ” @lumosreblogs​

          ALECTO  CLENCHED  HER  JAW  , everybody  looked  the  same  from  behind  ,  or  on  the  side  rather  ,  and  out  of  everyone  she  could’ve  picked  ,  it  had  to  be  charity  burbage  .  a  muggle  and  what’s  worse  ,  she  was  a  clever  muggle  .  quick  -  witted  and  unafraid  ,  in  the  carrow  girl’s  opinion  .  there  was  not  a  worse  combination  .  she  stepped  to  the  left  ,  not  wanting  to  spend  another  second  in  this  interaction  but  halted  just  as  quickly  when  charity  pointed  in  the  other  direction  .  she  gritted  her  teeth  ,  annoyance  bubbling  out  into  a  tight  -  lipped  smile  .  “  oh  i  dearly  hope  so  !   ”  alecto  expressed  ,  a  tone  of  fictitious  enthusiasm  intertwining  her  words  .  “  then  i  can  share  some  with  you  for  that  truly  awful  accent  .  seriously  ,  how  can  you  listen  to  yourself  talk  !  ”

           A  CARELESS  CHUCKLE  stumbled  through  his  lips  as  his  hands  reached  up  to  grip  the  other’s  shoulders  . “  mary  ,  mary  ,  mary  !  ”  he  exclaimed  ,  raising  his  voice  with  each  call  of  her  name  in  an  attempt  to  pacify  her  anxiety  . “  let’s  all  just  take  a  deep  breath  .  but  i  do  agree  griffiths  has  a  spectacular  nose  --  anyway  ,  sorry  .  right  .  you  .  fight  ?  cattermole’s  girlfriend  ?  i  would  usually  condone  such  amusing  antics  ,  i  mean  just  the  thought  of  you  and  cattermoles  girlfriend  going  at  it  with  mcgonagall  just  staring  daggers  --  ”  james  couldn’t  help  but  laugh  . “  but  don’t  worry  ,  i’ll  protect  you  .  i’m  not  gonna  fight  her  but  i  can  use  my  charm  and  my  wits  ,  ”  he  gave  her  a  wink  . “  to  reason  with  her  .  so  you’ve  got  nothing  to  worry  about  my  friend  .  ”  james  grinned  ,  air  of  nonchalance  quickly  disrupted  as  he  misplaced  an  arm  on  the  wall  ,  causing  him  to  lean  just  a  little  too  much  to  the  sideways  and  stumble  onto  the  wall  with  his  cheeks  pressed  against  it  .  but  he  quickly  recovered  and  gave  the  other  his  most  charming  grin  . “  i  was  ...  i  was  meant  to  do  that  .  ”

            A  LITTLE  CHUCKLE  escaped  her  lips  ,  one  dripped  with  such  factitious  euphoria  and  smooth  malevolence  . “  a  new  alecto  ?  such  wishful  thinking  isn’t  going  to  get  you  anywhere  emma  .  ”  alecto  had  known  evil  long  before  it  became  synonymous  with  her  name  .  her  family  came  from  a  long  line  of  it  and  it  was  inevitable  ,  that  alecto  would  become  just  like  them  .  merciless  ,  cold  ,  empty  ,  barbaric  .  forever  searching  for  the  joy  that  seemed  to  have  been  purposely  cursed  to  be  hidden  from  them  . “  and  not  to  mention  completely  unnecessary  ,  there  is  no  need  for  a  new  alecto  .  a  new  emma  vanity  we  could  use  though  .  someone  with  much  more  gut  ,  someone  with  much  more  savagery  .   someone less of a hufflepuff .  ”

           ALECTO  GAVE  A  DEDICATED  roll  of  her  eyes  ,  shoulders  slumping  as  she  began  to  walk  behind  her  --  there  was  nothing  more  that  the  carrow  girl  hated  besides  asking  for  help  .  and  worse  ,  even  receiving  it  from  someone  she  fervently  despised  .  (  perhaps  despised  is  a  harsh  word  ,  after  all  the  fortesucue  girl  had  never  done  anything  to  alecto  ,  but  again  there  was  that  inherited  hate  that  demanded  to  be  displayed  )  --  disliked  . “  it’s  a  ruthless  world  fortescue  ,  ”  alecto  sighed  an  almost  dreamy  sigh  . “  it’s  no  place  for  manners  and  kindness  .  ”  the  brunette  muttered  ,  slapping  out  the  books  of  first  -  year  she  had  walked  past  . “  it  will  eat  you  up   .  and  spit  you  back  out  as   a  remnant  of  a  person  .  nothing  but  bones    and  you  will  think  back  to  this  moment  ,  and  say  to  yourself  ,  alecto  carrow  was  really  fucking  right  .  ”

          A  LITTLE  LAUGH  stumbled  from  his  lips  as  the  wood  boy  gave  a  shake  of  his  head  , “  mate  ,  their  function  completely  escapes  me  .  but  my  grandmother  has  told  me  that  they  are  non  -  existent  .  in  the  sense  that  they’re  not  alive  .  but  they  do  exist  in  the  sense  that  they  are objects .  and  that  in  order  for  them  to  make  a  sound  ,  you  have  to  press  on  them  .  she  did  not  exactly  elaborate  on  how  to  press  on  them  .  just  ...  to  press  on  them  .   ”

            bloody  hell   !  the  fenwick  boy’s  grin  infuriated  alecto  --  the  only  reason  being  of  course  ,  was  because  she  did  not  know  whether  she  wanted  to  slap  it  off  or  kiss  it  off  .  like  a  bug  beneath  her  feet  ,  she  trampled  on  the  thought  of  the  latter  and  stomped  until  it  was  completely  obliterated  --  merlin  ,  forbid  that  she  ,  alecto  carrow  ,  part  of  the  great  and  pure  carrow  dynasty  ,  would  be  caught  locking  lips  with  him  ,  benjy  fenwick  ,  a  ravenclaw  halfblood  . “  there’s  nothing  wrong  with  taking  what  you  want  .  it  takes  bravery  and  a  backbone  .  both  of  which  you  lack  .   ”  his  comments  caused  a  smirk  to  slide  across  her  lips  ,  and  her  chin  to  tilt  just  the  slightest  ,  creating  a  picture  of  both  triumph  and  mystification  .   “  hmm.  ”  a  bemused  hum  escaped  her  lips  . “  you  sound  just  a  tad  bit  jealous  fenwick  .  only  right  for  you  to  but  such  realities  can  merely  exist  as  figments  in  your  imagination  .  just  because  you  look  better  doesn’t  mean  you  are  better  .  you  are  just  a  pathetic  halfblood  after  all  .  ”  alecto  didn’t  mean  it  .  not  truly  ,  at  least  .  halfbloods  or  muggle  -  borns  for  that  matter  ,  have  never  done  anything  to  her  .  but  such  beliefs  had  been  ingrained  in  her  mind  since  childhood  .  and  as  the  saying  goes  ,  you  can’t  teach  an  old  dog  new  tricks  .

            CONFUSION  SPLATTERED  ACROSS  HIS  FEATURES  as  he  reached  up  to  scratch  his  head  ,  a  little  baffled  at  the  question  himself  . “  no  ,  no  --  i’m  not  asking  for  permission.  i’m  merely  meant  that  had  you  chosen  to  give  me  a  punishment  it  wouldn’t  be  quidditch  -  centred  .  and  i’m  here  for  ...  the  scottish  shortbread  .  ”  the  woodboy  admitted  rather  timidly  ,  a  small  blush  creeping  up  his  cheeks  . “  i  was  feeling  ...  a  little  homesick  i  guess  .  ”  an  awkward  laugh  falls  from  his  lips  . “  i’m  sorry  .  it  won’t  happen  again  !  i  already  sent  a  letter  to  mum  to  deliver  some  more  so  ..”

           “  MERLIN  !   IM  SORRY  that  i  have  a  properly  functioning  sense  of  danger  !  ”  cal  exclaimed  fervidly  ,  despite  delivering  it  in  the  lowest  volume  possible  . “  unlike  you  it  seems  .  honestly  ,  what  is  going  with  gryffindors  being  so  heedless  !  this  is  not  bravery  ,  this  is  utter  stupidity  .  no  offense  .  i’m  sorry  ...  but  you  know  we  can  get  expelled  for  this  !  ”  the  wood  boy  rambled  on  ,  the  abnormal  palpitations  in  his  heart  almost  loud  enough  to  echo  around  the  library’s  walls  .  he  scanned  the  room  before  continuing  on  , “  why  do  you  want  a  book  on  the  ..  ”  he  brought  his  voice  down  to  an  even  lower  decibel  . “  ...  dark  arts  ..  ”  before  returning  it  to  the  usual  ,  only  slightly  louder  ,  panicked  voice  he  was  so  well  equipped  with  ,  “  especially  ,  with  everything  that’s  going  on  !  ”

           ALECTO  PRETENDED  TO  PONDER  the  other’s  words  ,  even  tilting  her  head  up  and  stroking  her  chin  to  deliver  an  accurate  portrayal  before  all  emotion  left  her  face  till  all  the  remained  was  an  ominous  smirk  . “  no  .  “  she  gave  a  lazy  half  -  shrug  of  her  shoulder  . “  usually  i  just  bend  their  itty  -  bitty  pinky  back  till  they  tell  me  what  i  want   .  ”  the  carrow  girl  said  and  with  such  frightening  nonchalance  that  only  stemmed  from  the  those  truly  villainous  .  and  though  she  had  personally  implemented  the  technique  before  (  usually  a  stare  and  few  words  did  the  trick  )  ,  her  reputation  was  enough  to  solidify  the  lie  . “  say  ,  you’ve  got  a  nice  pair  of  pinkies  don’t  you  prewett  ?  shame  for  them  to  be  broken  on  the  first  day  of  the  school  year  . ”  a  wicked  grin  slipped  across  her  lips  ,  a  picture  of  complete  indifference  despite  the  arrhytmic  thumping  in  her  chest  and  the  words  ,  please  just  tell  me  where  the  potions  room  is  ,  echoing  around  the  convolutions  of  her  mind  .

           ALECTO  THREW  HER  HEAD  BACK  as  a  groan  of  annoyance  escaped  her  lips  ,  as  though  all  will  to  live  left  her  body  ,  her  shoulders  dropped  and  her  arms  hung  loosely  by  her  side  ,  even  her  books  inched  slightly  closer  to  the  floor  as  her  grasp  around  their  spine  loosened  . “  merlin  !  how  are  you  not  hexed  every  single  hour  ?  ”  alecto  retorted  ,  viewing  the  other’s  lecture  and  (  seemingly  )  condescending  nature  as  a  threat  to  her  carefully  built  reputation  of  having  very  little  regard  for  anyone  but  herself  --  and  though  alice  did  have  good  points  (  she  did  have  a  rather  irksome  childhood  ,  cruel  parents  ,  inheriting  their  emotional  instability  ,  self  -  imposed  isolation  ,  the  whole  lot  )  and  she  was  still  in  a  complete  state  of  amnesia  in  terms  of  remembering  the  location  of  slughorn’s  classroom  ,  but  people  were  watching  and  she  needed  to  give  them  a  good  show  .  “  in  all  seriousness  ,  fortescue  ,  how  in  the  bloody  hell  have  you  survived  this  long  !  ”

          THE  OTHER’S  WORDS  despite  being  slightly  amusing  and  enough  to  threaten  a  smile  to  slip  across  her  lips  ,  alecto  returned  only  with  a  scoff  and  dedicated  roll  of  her  eyes  . “  well  ,  i  was  being  pragmatic  .  you  know  how  fickle  that  old  man  is  --  he  could’ve  been  feeling  adventurous  for  the  year  and  decided  to  do  potions  class  on  our  brooms  !  who  knows  whats  going  in  that  old  geezer’s  head  !  ”  she  delivered  her  argument  with  such  vigour  and  such  zeal  that  one  would  think  she  truly  did  believe  in  the  stance  she  was  taking  .   when  in  reality  ,  alecto  really  did  just  have  a  terribly  awful  memory  and  she  knew  ,  as  most  probably  every  student  that  he  taught  ,  that  professor  horace  slughorn  was  as  traditional  as  traditional  can  get  .  but  ,  she  would  rather  advocate  for  lies  than  admit  defear  to  a  ravenclaw  --  merlin  knows  how  smug  they  get  when  they  get  something  right  (  though  she  was  generalising  and  in  fact  ,  had  very  little  contact  with  ravenclaws  )  . “  oh  merlin   !   i’d  rather  be hexed  than  beg  .  and  to  what  ,  a  mere  halfblood or  even  worse  a  filthy  mudblood  .  ”

          EVER  THE  OBSERVANT  , daisy  spotted  marlene  long  before  she  was  addressed  .  and  as  usual  ,  curiosity  being  the  principal  impetus  for  her  actions  ,  she  walked  up  the  entrance  of  the  great  hall  ,  looking  out  to  see  what  had  interest  the  mckinnon  girl  so  much  .  and  as  though  in  a  play  and  on  queue  ,  marlene  spoke  and  daisy  only  giggled  . “  i  think  it’s  a  great  idea  .  eating  while  moving  around  can  help  food  exit  the  stomach  more  quickly  ,  further  lowering  the  likelihood  of  reflux  and  heartburn  .  ”  daisy  informed  the  other  ,  as  though  the  facts  were  ingrained  into  her  brain  (  when  in  reality  she  had  only  read  about  it  just  yesterday  in  a  letter  from  her  sister  )  . “  but  the  question  remains  ,  why  don’t  you  just  eat  here  ?  ”

          GAZE  FOCUSED  ,  MIND  OCCUPIED  ,  there  was  nothing  that  could  faze  the  dolohov  boy  in  that  moment  , on  his  journey  to  the  great  hall .  he  was  starving  .  he  had  been  slept  in  ,  missed  breakfast  ,  got  held  back  in  astronomy  and  already  ,  most  -  likely  missed  half  of  lunch  and  thus  ,  the  half  of  the  food  .  and  antonin’s  never  been  greedy  about  food  ,  no  merlin  ,  there  was  so  many  better  things  to  expend  his  greed  on  (  namely  ,  power  ,  knowledge  ,  strength  )  but  today  ,  just  today  ,  he  wanted  food  more  than  anything  .  and  when  he  was  stopped  by  what  looked  like  a  gryffindor  ,  he  couldn’t  help  but  scowl  . “  i’m  sorry  ,  i  don’t  really  give  a  shit  .  no  scratch  that  ,  i’m  not  sorry  .  but  the  latter  part  of  the  statement  was  very  true .  i  truly  don’t  give  a  shit  . ”

 A  GROAN  OF  ANNOYANCE   slips  past  cherry  lips  at  the  familar  voice  of  emma  vanity  reached  her  ears  .  alecto  gave  the  second  -  year  one  last  glare  before  turning  around  to  face  the  blonde  . “  i’m  sorry  we  can’t  all  have  perfect  memory  like  you  emma  ,  ”  the  carrow  girl  retorted  ,  enunciating  her  name  and  narrowing  her  eyes  . “  really  ?  you’re  gonna  lecture  me  about  being nice ?  ” she  scoffs  ,  a  smirk  playing  on  her  lips  , “  it’s  like  you’ve  completely  who  i  am  ,  maybe  your  memory’s  a  tad  bit  flawed  too  .  ”  she says condescendingly as she gives her house mate a pat on the head .  it  was  no  doubt  ,  that  around  wizardkind  ,  alecto  carrow’s  name  was  synonymous  with  malice  ,  bitterness  ,  evil  and  every  other  word  for bad .  there  was  no  turning  back  now  ,  this  is  what  the  world  had  moulded  her  into  .  it  demanded  from  her  hate  and  so  hate  she  will  give  .
