Chapter 995 and 997 best illustrate the difference between Luffy’s relationship with Nami and the other ship. Luffy and Nami’s relationship between each other is built on trust and respect, to such a level where Nami is getting tortured and won’t even consider lying and saying that Luffy won’t be the Pirate King in order to save her skin. It wasn’t even an option for her. Meanwhile, in the cover page of this chapter, we see that Nami is viewed by Sanji again as a sexual object, as she primarily is in his eyes. The difference is clear and in stark contrast. LuNa is viable, the other ship is not and never will be.

Nami was on some Pirate Queen stuff in this chapter, not even torture or the threat of death could stop her from stanning her King. While not overtly a shipping moment, it absolutely was one, and a strong one at that. Shows again that there is nobody that Nami values more than Luffy. Usopp was the perfect contrast, encouraging her to lie and deny Luffy, but, bleeding and hurt badly and threatened with death, it wasn’t even a thought in her mind.

She was never going to say anything other than what she said. Luffy is the single most important person to her in the world, and she showed it in this chapter. All she had to do was tell a lie and she refused to even do that. The only person she can be with is Luffy, and the only person he can be with is Nami. Nothing else makes sense, and no one else even comes close to having the kind of depth for that kind of relationship that Luffy and Nami have together.

This is an actual basis for a relationship, one built on faith and trust and care, where both parties are respected and one is not seen first as a sexual object and where boundaries aren’t crossed.

They’re only a fit for each other, and the Queen demonstrates that again. Be a badass, Nami.

The people that will justify and excuse Sanji’s actions in the anime episode that comes out tonight and pretend that it’s a “moment” for their ship (just like they did after the scene came out in the manga) are the reason that I’ve said for the longest time that you simply cannot ship that particular ship and be a fan of Nami or like her in any way, shape, or form.

You cannot claim to like, respect or care for Nami and subject her to that. She deserves to be with somebody that actually cares for and respects her (*cough* Luffy *cough*). End of story.

I love Jon. I love Daenerys. I love them together. I hated season eight and I hated the ending and I hate what they did to them. But the amount of hate Jon’s getting for a situation that he did not create is ridiculous. You can hate the ending, hate season eight, hate the writing, be pro-Daenerys, and not shit on Jon for something that wasn’t his fault.
