Future Plans
Thinking of doing a full month, probably August, video/photo/diary whole shebang of eating ridiculously healthy and killing myself running and mma training. Might be helpful for somebody. Must get planning...

Went for a quick lunchtime 5k today. Was looking for that 4th of July badge from #nikeplus as I'll be busy later so won't be able to get out. Realized though before this run that I hadn't broken any of my PB times in a while, which got me thinking. I really have been neglecting my running lately. Running less miles at slower pace. That is no way to get better. Which in the end is always the goal.
With this thinking I went out for this 5k to break my record (26:14). I didn't quite manage it today (though not a bad effort I think) but in future I'm going to try, one a week, to break both my 5k & 10k records. That'll probably mean one slow 5 and one slow 10 and then try the other two days, which would give me 30k a week and 4 runs, along with two days of MMA i think that works out nicely.
Monday:- Fast 10k
Tuesday:- Slow 5k
Wednesday:- MMA
Thursday:- MMA
Friday:- Slow 10k
Saturday:- Fast 5k
That's the current plan anyway. Let's see how that goes!
Exact opposite of the last run. Could have run all day but the heat was quite intense and i could feel myself burning so I stopped at the usual 10km mark. Should have kept going, next time I will.
One of my slowest ever times but it was one of those sore beat up runs that you feel better about finishing than one of your quickest.
UPDATE: Sci-mx vanilla 9-hour Protein
It tastes like wet paper, absolutely disgusting! Oh well, 5lbs of it to choke down!
Great training session tonight. #groundwork subs & sweeps!

New protein is here! Scimx 9-hour, see if it's any good!
Quick 5k I didn't want to do
One of those days where nothing when went right and to be honest I wasn't up for running, was going to give it a skip but said these are the times that you have to run. So I blew out a quick 5km and that'll keep me happy until the next run.
10k Slow Recovery Run
First run since the race today. A good honest 10k. I purposfully kept a slow pace as I wasn't fully recovered from the weekend. It was one of those slog of a runs that who keep telling yourself you'll stop at this mile but then want to keep going but then want to stop again. It can get very frustrating really. Not really loving the running at the moment. Kind of bored with it. Not doing huge distances just for the simple facted that I don't want to be out that long. I think signing up for a few more races might be the answer as they really do get you going and encourage you to go further and more often. I'll keep a look out for races. FYI Munster race calender can be found @ http://corkrunning.blogspot.ie/p/calendar.html This handy and they keep it right up-to-date.
Back to MMA Training
Back to MMA training last night after the gym had been moving for the last two weeks. It was hell. Especially after my brother's 4 day stag party last weekend. It seems that two weeks of no training really can effect you. Though I have a feeling that it would probably have done that anyway. We began training with the usual showdow boxing and streches. We worked on a little leg kick techniques, nothing new. Then we got into the meat of the session 5x3min rounds of sparring with a partner with pads. The partner would call out hand combo which you had to hit and kick you in the leg he wanted you to kick with, including front kicks, along with sprawls, knees and double kicks. 10 pushups and shadow boxing kept us going during 1 break between rounds. After the first 3 rounds it really started to get to me, my body just wasn't used to this High Intensity Training (H.I.T.). I began to slow way, way down. Trying to throw with accuracy rather than any power as I had none left. Each sprawl taking what I thought was the last drop of energy I had. We push on, as we must. Though drained and starting to develop a true hatred for my training partner, often a temporary psycosis when training, it's in these rounds that you learn technique and develop the attributes you need to get better. These times are hated going through them but are where the real important work is done. While i have been keeping up with my running, distance running is nearly the very definition of low intensity training. The two actually complement each other quite well. I believe I need to dedicate more time to MMA in the gym along with more H.I.T. at home. My striking is a million miles from where I want tit to be therefore I think I will have to sacrifice some cage work and grappling over the next couple of months to focus almost entirly on striking.Â

I been away...
Been a while. I'll keep it short, won't do the usual "sorry, busy, etc.". All I'll say is I'm going to resume posting, with better writing and better content.Â
