i've never seen people posting about this in english but russians are doing such thing. they're launching mig type aircrafts near our borders dozens times a day without doing anything but ukraine is obligated to issue an air raid alert each time. when air raid alert goes off every establishment and transport stops working so your daily plans are interrupted for several hours (most alerts last for 2 hours and there's multiple of them each day). but also people are getting used to them and don't go to shelters because you still need to do things and can't allow yourself to go to the shelter each time a mig flies off. but then also some times (and you can never guess when) they start shelling us with kinzhal type missles and since you thought "well it's just another of 20 alerts we have every day" and didn't go to a shelter you're at a higher risk of getting injured or dying. Yeah
Massive fuck you to everyone who is talking about Palestinians as if weโre already all dead and sharing more solidarity with our corpses than us living. โWe will never forget the beautiful Palestinian people-โ how about you stop โmaking peaceโ with Palestinian extermination. My people are not going to be forgotten because we are going to live. Palestinians have already survived one genocide and have been surviving one ever since.
Do not ever let the idea that all Palestinians are going to die exist in your mind. Mourn the dead, fight like hell for the living.
Comparing child death tolls like itโs a competition, welcome to x dot com.

Balka Baidykha, or Kherson mountains as the locals call it, is located near the village of Stanislav in the Kherson region.
Unfortunately this village was destroyed by russian shellings.
Some messages left by queer Palestinians who face annihilation by the Israeli government in their retaliation against Hamas. The Israeli government has dropped thousand of bombs, leveled streets, cut off water, gas, and electricity, bombed hospitals, ambulances, mandated evacuation and then bomb evacuees. Innocent people are dying in the mass.
There is no need for this government to employ these acts of collective punishment. The same logic that is used to condemn the acts of Hamas, should be used to condemn the actions of the Israeli government. No one deserves to slaughtered and dehumanized.
And keep in mind, that this terror is not unusual for the Palestinian people, and this is another horrific event in a decades long oppression and apartheid.
One of the most life-changing things I ever learned came from Mythbusters, where they tested and proved (with cognitive testing puzzles and reaction time tests) that lying down and resting with the intention to sleep STILL provided significant mental benefits over just staying awake, even if a person couldnโt fall asleep in the amount of time they had.ย
It helps me to actually sleep to know that just lying down with my eyes closed is still doing me some good, and helps me to not freak out/beat myself up when I stay up later than intended. Any amount of rest is better than no rest!
So if you didnโt know thatโฆnow you do
do you know that i think of this post every time i canโt sleep op. what mythbusters did for you, you have done for a great many others.ย
One instructor in nursing school, fifty years ago: โIf you canโt sleep, rest. If you canโt rest, at least lie down and pretend.โ
Message to all alleged โanti-war tankiesโ
If you were truly anti-war, at worst youโd at least try to pretend to be neutral, and not support either side. At best, you would not be on the side of Russia, the aggressor that, unprovoked, invaded a smaller sovereign nation that was peacefully minding its own business, was not in NATO, and wasnโt even applying for NATO membership. NATO was not the cause of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
As always, I remind people that Russia is committing war crimes in Ukraine, including but not limited to: erasing all mentions of Ukraine from schoolbooks, murdering entire civilian populations of Ukrainian cities, and kidnapping thousands and thousands of Ukrainian children (some as young as 4 months old) and placing them into โre-educationโ centers where they are forced to learn how to become good little Russians. Russia is indiscriminately bombing civilian targets like funerals, churches, schools and hospitals, and the Russian army is using mass rape as a weapon of war.
(Remember, Ukraine has demonstrated that they have the capability to reach Russian held territory, but unlike Russia, the Ukrainian military has only targeted military installations.)
If you can just hand wave all of the Russian war crimes and atrocities away because โAmerica bad,โ then please spare everyone your anti-war concern trolling, and your faux worries about Ukrainians dying. Just admit that as long as, lol, โcommunistโ Russia isnโt the one being invaded, you are morally indifferent to human suffering and you actually do not care about ending wars.
Russia can end the war instantly, just by going home.

every holocaust memorial day, i always ask people to keep romani people in their thoughts, but this year iโd like to clear up some misconceptions that i see every year w/ a psa
romani people are not white. weโre south asian (from northern india), and each subgroup has a unique racial makeup of asian/white/etc, in different amounts. this is also why we vary wildly in physical appearance/skintone
we still face oppression.ย what we face, especially in europe, can still be constituted as attempted genocide, as weโre forced to live in hazardous conditions or to give away our children, be sterilized, etc just for the crime of being roma
theย โg slurโ isnโt just an american issue. the reason some european roma preferย the slur is because, in many countries, there is no term for roma that isnโt a slur, and itโs either the g slur or the literal translation of the n word. iโm romanian, and if you used the slur in my hometown, youโd get slapped, since we just useย โromaโ.
we live in every continent across the world.ย some of the largest romani populations exist in south america, predominantly in brazil. they are no more and no less roma than their european counterparts, and they, like romani in asia, africa, etc all face unique challenges and oppression.
weโre the largest ethnic minority in europe, and yet have almost no political power, no land ownership power (in some places, weโre forbidden from owning land entirely), etc. with very few reputable charities- a lot of us reject charity by principle, as well as there being a general lack of education about us- the best thing you can do to help romani people is to just spread information, and help individuals when you can.
Today, August 2, 2020, is Rroma Holocaust Memorial Day. On this day in 1944, 2,897 Rromani people were killed in the Z*geunerfamilienlager, or G*psy family camp, in the Auschwitz concentration camp complex. We remember them.
โFuck it, we slayโ (heavy eye bags, dehydrated, on the verge of insanity)
Yesterday I almost cried because my baby cousin ran up to my grandmother and was like. โHa! Buhbuh ba ha.โ And she said okay you want to show me something? And he led her over to the garden patch and crouched down and pointed at rocks and plants and was like. โAh. Habah ba ahโ as she listened attentively.
And I was like that happened 1,000 years ago. Probably 10,000 years ago. Maybe 100,000. The youngest human in a group went to the oldest one and said to the best of their ability โcome see.โ And the adult went.
this is such a beautiful post it doesn't need my dumb addition, but i can't fit this in the tags. at the archaeological site Dolni Vestonice in the Czech Republic there are a bunch of really really fascinating finds and I'm only going to tell you about one tiny detail of one of the most interesting sites in the world.
at this settlement 20-30,000 years ago there lived a person who appears to have been a sort of sorcerer-grandmother-ceramics artist and her workshop was preserved very well in the sedimentary layers. her hut where she had her kilns was full of little sculptures of animals and people that seem to have been made to explode in the kiln on purpose, we're not sure why but nevermind. the relevant detail is that when you sculpt something with your hands and then fire it, your fingerprints can be preserved in the surface of the clay forever, so we have fingerprints of ancient ceramics artists that have survived for tens of thousands of years. and one of the major artifacts from Dolni Vestonice has a fingerprint on it that is so small it could only have belonged to a child
so this shaman-grandmother-sculptor, who was buried with her pet fox by the way, had children running through her workshop and touching everything she made while she was at her mysterious work of creating the world's oldest ceramics, none of which appear to be bowls, bottles, pots, or any "useful" items at all, but rather a collection of animal and human and sometimes anthropomorphic figures, some of which appear to be self portraits. exactly the same as sandersstudios' grandmother being led to the garden by an excited baby. we've all been the same for 30,000 years.
This was the south of Ukraine.

Jesse: "Yo, Mr. Fring, I've been thinking about this quote, man. "One must imagine Sisyphus happy." What do you make of that?"
Gus: "Ah, Jesse, I see you've stumbled upon the existential musings of Albert Camus. It's an intriguing concept, to say the least."
Gus: "Sisyphus, condemned to an eternity of rolling a boulder uphill only to watch it roll back down again, represents the futility and absurdity of life's struggles."
Gus: "However, Camus suggests that by accepting and embracing this absurdity, one can find happiness."
Jesse: "Yeah, but I mean, isn't that just some crazy philosophical bullshit? How can someone be happy in such a fucked-up situation?"
Gus: "Happiness, Jesse, is a state of mind. It's not about the circumstances we find ourselves in, but rather how we choose to perceive and respond to them."
Gus: "Sisyphus, despite his eternal struggle, can find meaning and purpose in his repetitive task. By embracing his fate and finding fulfillment in the act itself, he transcends the burden he carries."
Jesse: "That's deep shit, man. So, what, you're saying we should just accept all the crap that comes our way and be happy about it?"
Gus: "Not necessarily. Acceptance doesn't mean complacency. It means acknowledging the realities of our situation and finding a way to navigate them while maintaining our inner peace."
Gus: "It's about finding meaning in the journey, even if the destination remains elusive."
Jesse: "Yeah? I guess that makes sense in some messed-up, twisted way... Hey, speaking of finding happiness, have you tried Taco Bell's Nacho Fries? They're insane, man!"
Gus: "...Nacho Fries, Mr. Pinkman?"
Jesse: "Oh, you gotta try 'em, Mr. Fring! They're like these crispy, seasoned fries with this gooey cheese dipping sauce. It's like a flavor explosion in your mouth, man. I bet you'd love 'em."
Gus: "If they are as remarkable as you claim, perhaps we can find a moment to indulge. After all, even in the face of existential ponderings, we mustn't forget to appreciate life's simpler pleasures."
Jesse: "That's what I'm talkin' about, Mr. Fring! We'll have ourselves a little culinary adventure amidst all the fucking chaos. Life's all about finding those moments of joy, even if it means embracing the absurdity along the way, right?"
Gus: "Indeed, Jesse. Life's contradictions often lead us to unexpected discoveries. Perhaps, we may find a glimpse of Sisyphus' elusive happiness in the process."
