Exactly Megan đđđđđ
Very generally speaking, when you see a black man in a piece of media, be it tv show, movie, video game, etc. thereâs something you often see a lot of writers do. To go against the stereotype of black men (and black people in general) being dumb and lazy, youâll see this black male character being smart and an achiever. ďżź
The Black Nerd. A common character type, the nerd will always be very interested in all things nerdy: science, video games, mathematics, etc. In an continued effort to combat stereotypes, the Black Nerd will be lack athleticďżźism, probably being asthmatic (the nerdiest of conditions). The Black Nerd will dress smartly, suspenders and bow ties. Theyâll always talk smart too, using proper English with complex words.
Now, I donât have a problem with a black character being a nerd, indeed black people are a people; we arenât all the same and we all have varying personalities. The problem I have is that too often we see a distinct disconnect between Blackness and the Black Nerd. The Black Nerd doesnât listen to hip hop or rap, only classical music. The Black Nerd only has white friends, the only other black characters are into not nerdy stuff. The Black Nerd never ever uses AAVE at any time in any context.
And again I must say that Black people, not being a monolith, there are no hard fast rules to being Black. Iâm more than sure there are Black people like what Iâve described above, Iâm not saying itâs impossible; what Iâm getting at is that the only Black Nerd we see. There are Black Nerds that play basketball, that bump Kendrick Lamar, and use AAVE since itâs an ever changing dialect. Iâm just saying thereâs no one way of being a nerd and no one way of being Black.
Well @dumbey, seems weâre in similar boats
This ainât about him, this is about Black/Asian solidarity. Focus.
what if we all explode
This very production of Orpheus & Eurydice is now available to stream, free, for the month of June.
some interesting connections being drawn between the concept of a âgoodâ man and a âsoftâ man that suggests itâs difficult to conceptualize a âgoodâ man who is cranky, cantankerous, ornery, stand-offish, and still a decent person, similar to how difficult it is for some people to picture a âgoodâ woman whoâs a bit of a mean cunt.
sometimes I think youâre all just grooming each other to be spineless fawning service animals instead of figuring out how to actually show up as an equal and a comrade.
people love a cranky loner with a heart of gold in fiction but because real people don't helpfully demonstrate the identifying character tropes they won't extend them the patience and curiosity necessary to find out who they are beyond the unprepossessing exterior

AppleTV posting a Los Pal Amos edit with the caption: 'It takes two to save the world' is the serotonin I needed this evening while I'm dealing with a sore, bruised arm.
find out more about this pan-fandom fundraiser on tumblr or dreamwidth.
Browsing is open! View the offerings on dreamwidth.
Bidding opens 10 June 12:01AM UTC+3 and closes 15 June 5:00PM UTC+3.
copyable alt text: a flier with floral and book designs around text reading "TODAY browsing period now open for Fandom Does Tzedakah, before bidding begins on June 10th!"
I am offering a <5k fic and a >5k fic for:
Dungeons and Daddies s1 (only s1; anything else would be ooc)
Blue Eye Samurai
Pluribus
The Hunger Games (All Media)
and Watchman (prequel & HBO series included)
I am the only person offering these fandoms and one of only five offering a fic over 5k. (Other fandoms offered for fanfics by other people include Project Hail Mary, Murderbot, Good Omens, Star Trek, and more so check out the offerings!)
All of the charities are for good causes, but you are able to pick which speaks to you the most for your donation. Since it is for charity, I am being really flexible if there is a specific idea you have in your bid.
So if you have disposable income and a specific fic idea you want to see executed, put in a bid đŤĄ
Open to both writers and artists.
Posting here, sign up's are open for the Summer Pluribus Exchange!! For those who've never done an exchange, this is like a secret santa exchange. You'll get someone's prompts and you can choose one of them and write or draw it. If you want to do both prompts you totally can, two prompts are given just to give you options. You won't know whose writing or drawing for you until the reveal date.
Since this is an exchange that means you will be filling someone's prompts as well. Sign-ups will be open till June 7th; I'll sort through and email you the person you will be writing or drawing for. I'll include more rules in the email. And for those writing, you have to write a minimum of 1000 words. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! The due date for all prompts to be filled and submitted will be July 12th.
I also want people to keep in mind that the majority of people are probably going to want to write or draw ships so if you request something focused on say Manousos solely there may not be someone wanting to do that. But we'll see what people sign up for.
Top 10 branches of science ranked by how bad it would suck to be killed by them (from best to worst)
Physics - probably the nicest just on the grounds of how fast that's gonna be. Like if you're a goner before any of the other sciences can get to you, you probably don't even have time to feel anything.
Biology - the most standard default way of dying. Most of the time it sucks but not badly enough to warrant you its own wikipedia page.
Geology - one of the oldest OG classics. Rock hits Og. Og is gone.
Psychology - slow tigers are chasing you.
Zoology - fast tigers are chasing you.
Sociology - idk me and the rest of the angry mob agree that you had it coming.
Chemistry - this is a hard one to place because there's a lot of variation. But anyhow you're getting undone on a cellular level.
Mathematics - how the fuck did you even do that.
Cosmology - why the fuck did you even do that?
Theology - what the fuck did you even do?

i love fics that feel so... grown. fics about adults that were written by adults who have years of life experience under their belts who pour that into their writing. fics where you can tell this is a person who has lived through a marriage or a divorce or a child or children or parent death or any number of Huge Life Events because the way they write with an emphasis on the highs and lows of the human experience rather than an emphasis on tropes (not throwing shade) is just so. oh man, it's just so fucking good. if my blorbos are grown men, grown women, grown people, i love it when they feel like grown people, not just extensions of the (young) author's imagination. (still not throwing shade). you know?
Figurinâ Out How to Draw Houses (2025)
The person I reblogged this from deserves to be happy.
Useless is as useless doesnât by Bob Hicok
Finally dreamed that I found the room in my house where she had been staying and I could go in to pet her again. In usual Casey fashion, she tolerated me cuddling her for a couple of minutes before I needed to let her go. I was mostly relieved that I had found where she had been.
