The program Thursday featured "Drop Down" (2007) and "Still Life With Avalanche" (2014) by the estimable Kate Weare; but the performers, in these two essays, were drawn from the ranks of ODC Dance and cast by the choreographer. Every gesture is part of a larger, universal saga. [...] Thursday, I would have thought Weare's duets of desire needed her own battle-weary troupe to ignite them. Randee Paufve collaborated with choreographers Gregg Bielemeier and the late Della Davidson as well as some splendid musicians, to create a five-part, all-women piece, which, in turn, is a reduction of an evening-length opus. [...] Paufve remains a polished miniaturist, and this attempt to confer an organic quality on five different solos fails, despite the recurring physical imagery (like thumb and index finger curled into an O). The exception is Peiling Kao, whose comic attack - abetted by a dozen white beach balls, Bielemeier's choreography, pianist Elijah Wallace and a nutsy version of "Over the Rainbow" - penetrates the gloom.
