HIM

When I first heard “Rip Out the Wings of a Butterfly” something clicked for me. It was the first time I quickly went looking for the album and was surprised to hear that I liked every song. Then I began looking backwards and every song dug its claws into me. The only band I can say that I don’t skip a song on.

HIM and their music came into my life when I was 15. I was daydreaming about love like Cory and Topanga while the guys around me wanted to get laid or pretended not to like the girls as much as they truly did. So I kinda felt like an oddball (add being Latinx you got that Machismo of having to date and bang every girl you meet). But then I have this band who have Love Metal as a title for an album. Who have songs of love, life, and death. A lead singer who isn’t afraid to speak about his feelings and views on love and romance. It felt reassuring. I finally found my soundtrack. I wasn’t alone. Or weird.

I went through a lot of heartbreaks and have beautiful memories as well and HIM was (and will continue to be) there with their music to make me smile, shake my hips or cuddle up to mourn.
