I have a question: how did you, for lack of better term, get everything off the ground? You obviously have fans (myself included) who love your Pokémon oc / AU work — how did you get there? Do you have advice for anyone else who wants to post about Pokémon OCs and AU story(ies) like you do?

I made Gene originally for a nuzlocke run in 2013 that I wrote and showed exclusively to my partner. and then I kept doing that every time a new pokemon game came out because I loved showing them what Gene was up to. I spent so much of high school using any and all free time to draw comics in the back of class and whenever I got home just to show my partner. it was purely for the love of 1) Gene, 2) my partner, and 3) drawing for fun
THEN I JOINED TUMBLR JUST TO TALK TO MY PARTNER EVEN MORE and eventually made an art blog to post fan art, and THAT'S when someone asked about gene and I posted the summary of his adventures so far. and once there were more people invested in him I was like "oh man this rocks, I get to show my partner AND other online friends my OC??"
SO LIKE, THE THINGS THAT REALLY KEEP ME GOING ARE:
1. I know where the story is going to end up in terms of major plot beats, but I'm not afraid to take detours and meander around if something looks fun to explore. Also Pokemon keeps releasing new games which gives me new stuff to latch onto and add to the story!
->since I'm using Pokemon as a basis I get to use characters and a setting that I already like, and just build on that for fun. BUT that also means that things in the story can change as new games come out, for better or for worse, and that gives my brain a really fun challenge like "oh hell yeah how are we gonna write around this one lads." so like, you can just think of it like a puzzle and put as much or as little of the game/anime/manga canon in it as you want!!!! any time you think of a new piece for worldbuilding/character development, write it out or sketch it out and see where it takes you!!!
2. My partner knows the ending of the story and the general plot beats so I have someone to talk to about what I might want to do next.
->Having a person who knows what happens next (generally) that you can talk to and be devious with and bounce ideas off of when you're stuck is. a lifesaver. When I was doing comics JUST to show Mio (partner), I would talk to one of my sisters or cousins instead and it also helped (but not quite as much)
3. It IS a huge boost to my motivation and ego when guzma or lysandre or plumeria or red, etc. enjoyers like how they're portrayed in-comic, but I started out just doing Gene's comics for one single person, and even now I'm just happy as long as my small group of online friends enjoys it.
->Make friends and then don't worry about it being a numbers game!! Just have fun with them and take any extra attention as a wonderful bonus!!

in fact I will add to that. I think emmet normally cooks/bakes when he's stressed and gives away a lot of it but since he's on the road with White and has less access to baking supplies he's stuck ordering takeout instead. such is life 🫡
