Totaka’s Song +UST

was wondering if this was in Splatoon somewhere, and while I was looking it up I thought I'd make a quick UST while I was at it ~^^~ And before you ask, no. I didn't grab a midi from somewhere. That isn't how I UST >>

Anywho, for those of you who don't know, Kazumi Totaka is one of the composers who works at Nintendo. He's pretty well known for slipping this little ditty into obscure places for people to find later when he composes on a game. By the way, it's more than likely not in Splatoon. Turns out Totaka didn't even work on it XD

I also felt like Ayame's Act 2 specific outfit hasn't gotten any love in forever, so here you go! Too lazy to shade XP

UPDATE: I forgot to mention that you need some type of OTO for it to work. Just hit 'set' on any syllable in voicebank settings and it'll be fine. (To get there go to Tools>Voicebank Settings.)

How to generate your FRQs: I hadn't considered this until earlier today, but I figured a lot of people probably have trouble determining pitch when naming their multipitch files, so I thought I'd share the easiest way to find it out.

Well this took longer than expected, but it's finally done! Everything is timed correctly, all you have to do is start the tracks at 5.225 seconds. There are already a couple USTs out there, but they weren't accurate. They had missing harmonies, or the wrong people singing the wrong part, and so I made my own~ Getting this accurate was actually more problematic than you would think. Amethyst and Pearl's singing voices are actually pretty similar when put together like this. I tried to match the vibrato of the original singers, which is funny because they all sang the same lines differently when it came to that. The UST is in CV Engrish, but I do have some parts that are just C. The 'm' and the 's'. I highly suggest you duplicate one of your syllables and then OTO it to make just the consonant sound. Especially the s, that comes in handy even in Japanese USTs. I was asked, so ye :v STOP! Before you comment saying 'But Ocarina!!! There's a much more effieient way! Do it this way instead and it's easier!!' I know that. But this is better for three reasons: 1) People without a Japanese locale (like me) can't really copy-paste it properly, 2) This is better for making sure the bank is aliased more accurately, and 3) If you've already done your OTO it's already to late. Okay, you can keep reeding now. So, this is the most basic and tedious way to alias your voicebank. I prefer doing it manually because it's more precise and you don't end up with accidental syllables. Aliasing your voicebank means that your UTAU will be able to sing whether the ust is in hiragana or romaji. Just plop in the character opposite of whichever the original file is named, hit set, okay, then you're golden! I recommend doing this manually as last time I checked, the Essential UTAU Toolkit isn't always accurate and it doesn't cover some syllables that aren't strictly hiragana. If you have a character I haven't listed let me know and I'll try and add it. For things that have multiple names, I recommend you hit that duplicate button and add a new alias, it won't make a new file and will also carry over your OTO so no worries there, and then you'll have all your bases covered! This list is in English alphabetical order, so if you've got them named in romaji you can just go right down the list. Watch it though, as some of these syllables are extras that I have seen used/used myself on several other VBs, and are not included in a normal reclist (recording list). Let me know if I screwed something up/named it improperly/accidently put two syllables down as the same hiragana so I can fix it. I am only human after all, and I noticed I did it a couple of times when I glanced over the list. I may have missed something, but I'm like 99% sure it's right now. The sad truth about breath files.

A lot of people ask, so I thought I’d explain.

The reason that 1) you can't make a breath file, and 2) nobody can explain to you what you're doing wrong even though their UTAU has a breath file is because it just depends on the microphone. If you try to record one by taking in a breath as if you were about to sing (for best results actually start singing afterwards instead of just gasping for air) and you plug it into UTAU, here's basically how it goes. The program either thinks 'Yeah, that's breathing! Cool, I'll just play it back exactly whenever this plays from now on' or it thinks 'Dude, what? Idk what that was, so I'm gonna try to make it a note? I'll do my best but I'm really not sure what that was...'

Recording it again isn't really going to help. UTAU is extremely fickle with that kind of thing, and it all comes down to what microphone you're using. If you're using a mic that is several hundreds of dollars and UTAU is like 'lol idk' then you're stuck with no breath file. If you're using the default mic on your computer and UTAU is like 'Cool. Oxygen.' Then you get a breath file. Cost or quality of the microphone doesn't matter. If you breath in and UTAU makes a weird screech noise, there is more than likely not going to be a breath file. You're not doing anything wrong, it's the program. Sorry!

CV OTO Tutorial

Welp, here it is! Here’s the big one! It’s thorough, just like always~! This is the way that I OTO CV voicebans. CV stands for Consonant Vowel, so if your bank has syllables like ‘ka’ then it’s a CV type bank. ‘k’ being consonant, and ‘a’ being the vowel. There are a few different way to OTO, but this is the way that I do it, and I’ve found it works pretty well.

Oh, right, one more thing…Make sure to run every note through UTAU as you go. It’s a pain to go back and fix it later!

Sorry for the quality….If anyone knows of a better screencap program that also records the screen’s audio please let me know! I don’t mind paying as long as it isn’t a million dollars XD I would prefer free though lol

Eww, no, look at this frequency. That could cause quite a hiccup in your wave file, couldn’t it? Well, here is a fairly simple way to fix this!

First, open your Voice Bank Settings (Ctrl + G).

On the bottom left, there should be a button to edit the frequency map for that part. Click it to open a new window.

You may need to scroll across to get to a line of blue dots. That’s your frequency map. What we want is to keep that line as even as possible, and that would mean adjusting the dots out of place and/or adding a dot in an empty spot.

Either scroll down to the number that’s definitely too distant from the others, or simply click the blue dot and it will automatically highlight its point number. In the center is a box where you can put in the Hertz number. Type in a number that could easily match the average Hz. (In this case, I just changed the whole digits to 231, like the one before it.) After that, press the Set (セット) button.

After you make the changes to each point, you must press the second bottom button in order to save your changes.

Should it successfully save, you should see this box. Press OK, and press the button below the Save button to exit.

And look, that big hiccup’s gone!

Remember, the more work you put into it, the steadier you can make the frequency line. To be honest, I’m not sure to what extent it would help, but for those small bits that make the part pop when playing, it certainly helps erase that error.

Make sure not to do it to the entire FRQ or to ones that don't need it! If you do it too much then it makes it sound more robotic.
