“You better start talking if you still want your fingers.”
Filled with darkness, the familiar voice hisses threats into your ear. Shaking in fear, your trapped in the same place you always find yourself in. A basement located in one of the many abandoned rooms under the Gotham subway. Tied to that rusted chair. With those people. Those goddamn monsters.
Spitting blood out of your mouth, you give them the same answer you always do. “Fuck you…” With that, the shadowy figure quickly draws out the hammer that makes you want to fight and sob simultaneously. The threat makes your head spin with fear, and as usual, you jolt out of sleep the split second before the hammer hits.
Sitting straight up, you’re left shaking with the remnants of that wretched night, or day… however much time you were kidnapped and tortured for. As the (unfortunately) familiar traumatic memories swirl around your mind, strong hands wrap around to ground you. Looking to your side, green eyes meet yours. Jason.
Always filled with the utmost love when they fall apron you. His tender touch almost instantly starts to calm your body. You’re in the apartment Jason and you share. You’re in bed. You’re safe. The relief is almost overwhelming as it washes over you.
“You’re okay baby..you’re safe..” Jason whispers, his deep voice the most calming thing you’ve ever heard.
Funny, how a man who kills daily can act so soft. Although he would never show that side with anyone else. Only you. You almost melt into his touch as he holds you.
“J-jay….” You manage to sniffle out, slightly shaking and close to tears.
Why must your mind continue to plague your dreams with the most traumatic event in your life??? It will always confuse you. With his big hands gently tracing circles on the soft skin of your back, you finally crumble. Small sobs fill the room as Jason immediately pulls you into his lap, gently holding you. “Shhh shhh you’re okay baby I got you….” his soothing tone eventually reduces those sobs to hiccups and sniffles, as you’re right where you always want to be.
Jason’s arms almost engulf you, and as time passes you continue to cling to him. Your anchor. Your Jason. “Want water?” He whispered, and you nod. These nightmares exhausted you, mentally and physically. The thing that bothered you the most wasn’t that you were in danger, but that you knew Jason would rescue you every time. He would do anything to protect you. You knew that every time he would give you his jacket the second he thought he saw you shivering, or when he immediately brought you into his apartment after the incident occurred. Jason would always come to your rescue, and that scared you.
The truth was, your worst fear is being a burden. The guilt consumed you constantly, even though Jason always shut that down the second you mentioned it.
You were pulled out of your thoughts when Jason started to sit up to grab you water, and you quickly grabbed his hand. He stopped. “I…I don’t want to be alone…” you whisper out, fear still evident in your eyes. Jason’s eyes softened further, if that was possible, and gently scooped you up in his arms. “I’d never let you be.”
Kissing the top off your forehead, he brought you to the kitchen. Gently setting you down on the counter, Jason quickly grabbed your favorite cup and filled it with water. Handing it to you, you quickly took a small sip.
Crying really does take a lot out of you, and the familiar exhaustion started to settle in after you were done.
Jason stayed by your side, drinking some water too. You looked at him, and couldn’t help but smile when you noticed his choice of cup. It was an small gift you had given to him after he returned from a painfully long mission. Missing him so much, you had painted a small cup with the symbol of red hood, covering it with red and grey. Although he originally would playfully roll his eyes when he first saw it, that cup was always his first choice.
Leaning your head against his much taller shoulder, you sighed with content. “Was it the same?” He asked. All you could muster was a nod, “yeah…” Rain cluttered the fire escape outside, and the sound served as a gentle background.
“You should go back to sleep” you mumble, the worry for him evident. “You should too.” Jason replied, his hand creeping around your waist. His touch always served as a comfort to you. Eventually, the two of you find yourself back in bed, curled up in each other.
“I love you Jason.” You whisper to him, kissing his cheek. “Baby you have no idea” He responded, wrapping you in his arms again as you laid on his chest. Sleep soon found you, as your eyelids got heavier and fluttered closed. Jason only pulled you tighter, kissing your forehead silently as you slept.
Jason Todd was truly the love of your life, and you loved him eternally.
