Is it not harmful to provide a space where paraphilias are allowed to fester into something that may become harmful or cause distress? /genq
This is the most ridiculous question I've ever received. I'm sorry, but I'm getting really tired of these questions about how "dangerous" it is to let paraphiles have a community.
First of all, not all paraphilias have the ability to "fester." Only paraphilias that have obsessive compulsive tendencies can "fester." Not all paraphiles have obsessive characteristics.
For example - a person into BDSM (which is a paraphilia, paraphilias include kinks and fetishes of all kinds) can just be casually into BDSM. Meanwhile, a person with disordered sadomasochism that has obsessive compulsive traits might experience that "festering." It depends on the individual. And yes, this also applies to stigmatized paraphilias - not all zoophiles, MAPs, necrophiles, biastophiles, etc have obsessive compulsive traits.
Second of all, my servers have spaces for people to vent or ask for tips or coping mechanisms. If a disordered paraphile is struggling, bottling it all up isn't going to help them. If anything, that repression would lead it to fester.
Third of all, paraphiles aren't ticking time bombs, including disordered ones. Giving paraphiles a community isn't the same as "allowing it to fester". This is like saying "is it not harmful to create a server where people with ASPD can fester on their harmful thoughts? π₯Ί" Have you ever heard of venting?? Of outlets?
I've received like six anons exactly like this and it's pissing me off. Stop treating paraphiles like some alien being. Stop acting like paraphiles need to be isolated from others like them. Running anti-contact & anti-abuse servers is harming literally nobody. I get dozens of anons talking about how alone and suicidal they feel, and they deserve to have somewhere to talk about their thoughts without it being deemed as "harmful."
