Just a bit of an Obirex farm au I've been working on, where they meet because Ben is helping Rex's grandpa on his farm for the summer.
Around lunchtime, Rex stepped from the house to find Ben sitting on the tailgate of his Papaâs truck softly talking with the older man. Growing up they were told the vehicle was completely off limits and to not even think about taking it out for a late-night joy ride. For Ben to not only be trusted to drive it but to use it to go into town alone showed just how much he was trusted. Both of them turned as Rex approached, Jaster reaching over to tug him close to his side as he continued to talk with Ben. âDonât let Old Wiley get out of the extra sack of oats he owes me.â
âWouldnât dream of it, Boss.â Ben gave a little mock silhouette with two fingers lifting from his eyebrow. With a subtle shift of his gaze, Ben asked him, âAre you ready to go?â
âSurprised Rex agreed to.â Jaster jostled him slightly, âAlways used to hate going on supply runs.â
Ben shrugged and slipped off the tailgate, gently poking Jaster in the stomach with a grin. âMaybe Iâm better company.âÂ
âNot with your taste in music, son.â Jaster rolled his eyes before turning to Rex, pressing a soft kiss to the top of his head. âHave fun. Donât let him have control of the radio. For your sanity.âÂ
âIâm not that bad!â When Jaster finally walks away Ben turns to him, slamming the tailgate close. âI promise. Iâm not that bad.â
Rex snorted, âWeâll see. Letâs get going.âÂ
â
He wasnât sure if his feelings about Benâs song choices had to do with the fact he actually liked the music or because he found the man attractive. As many times before growing up, Rex had his socked feet hanging out of the passenger window, gazing out as the trees, fields of wheat, and plains full of animals grazing whipped past them. He shifted his head enough to look across the middle at Ben. He had one hand on the bottom right curve of the steering wheel with the other hanging out of the window. His hair tie was trying its best to keep his hair together, but it was failing, strands whipping around his face. He didnât seem to mind it, just relaxed back against the seat softly singing to whatever song came onto the radio. He was effortlessly beautiful even after almost 4 hours of work. Rex forced himself to look away, getting comfy and then closing his eyes to feel the wind against his face. Over the ride to town and lunch while Wiley had their truck loaded he had learned Ben was only here until early August and then he was off to London, amongst many other topics. As handsome and interesting as he was, Rex knew it was a bad idea to pursue something that had a permanent expiration date. He barked out a laugh at the absurdity of the thought Ben would even be remotely interested.Â
Something warm and a little rough fell against his arm, followed by a quiet question, no longer drowned out by the music. âYou alright?â
âOh, yeah. Sorry. Thought of something humorous.â
Ben returned to focus on the road and withdrew his hand slowly, resting a bit on the center console. His left hand was curled on the top of the wheel now, a little smile curved on his lips. âCare to share?â
Admit he had been thinking about how itâd feel to kiss him, to hold his hand, and all of the rest of the romantic no-good stuff? As well as tell him he had thought the possibility of that was so impossible it was almost hilarious? Absolutely not. âI had a good time today. Thank you for inviting me.âÂ
âIt was fun. We should do it again sometime.â Ben nudged him slightly with his elbow, grinning. âEven if you like tarter and hot sauce with your fries.â
âYou put ketchup on your fish sandwich. Sir, you have no room to talk.âÂ
âKetchup is a god-tier condiment.âÂ
âFor toddlers.â
Ben gasped with his hand raising to press against his chest as if clutching imaginary pearls. âHow dare!âÂ
By the time they pulled back into the farm, Rex had just managed to get his laughter under control. Still, Jaster had an unreadable expression on his face when he appeared in the driver's side window. âYou two knuckleheads gonna get out and help me?

His chest ached under the bandages, but there wasnât much more that could be done other than rest and let the bacta do its purpose. He glanced down at Cody curled up into his side, dark curls a stark contrast to the white of the medbay bed linens. As soon as the young boy had woken up for his surgery he had clambered his way into Obi-wanâs room, and then his bed, half sobbing his apologies and that he didnât mean to shoot him. It wasnât that long ago Obi-wan had finally got the boy to sleep, tucked in under the covers with him, petting back his curls slowly.
He had been called down to the navigation class Cody was in, Alpha-17 saying something about the boy being extra twitchy, mumbling under his breath and clutching at his forehead as if in pain. Obi-wan had barely received the warning in the force before the two shots were fired, Cody standing there holding out Alphaâs stolen blaster. He hadnât remembered much after that, just the odd feeling of empty coldness radiating from Cody, the pain of being shot in the chest, and Jangoâs panic through their soul mark.Â
Boba had been there when he had woken up from surgery, sitting against his thigh playing with a soft block. His father and he had been asked to leave shortly after so he could be looked over. And he hadnât seen either of them since. On one hand, he was glad, for it meant he had time to process all that was learned from that small chip taken from Codyâs mind. Now Cody was full of warmth once again and Jango was muted, wherever he was now. Obi-wan let go of the data pad in his right hand to shift onto his side with a grimace, but then Cody was held to his chest, nose just brushing the bandage on the side of the young boyâs head. He stared across the way at the small box he knew the chip to be. It had taken Anakin longer than he would have liked to look into it with the help of a few of the older clones. Amongst the number of orders was one to kill the Jedi because they were considered traitors. He forced himself to close his eyes, cutting his vision from the accursed thing. At least they knew now and were slowly dechipping the rest of the boys, trying their best to do it as quickly as they safely could.Â
He wanted to know if Jango knew, needed to know, but he was in no shape for such a conversation even if he could get out of bed to find the man to have it. For now, heâd focus on taking care of their boys and healing. The nagging thought that Jango knew about the chips lingering behind it all.Â

My Obi-wan Loungefly came in, and the one zipper is a lightsaber charm and when I bought it I thought itâd be Obi-wanâs, but itâs definitely Anakinâs.
I was thinking about a codywan fic set in the ATLA universe, and which bending style each character would be.
I thought about the clones being water tribe, even if not all of them are benders family is extremely important to them so I thought thatâd fit. So Cody and his brothers.
For Obi-wan I thought of Earth, but Iâm not completely sold on it
I pre-ordered an Obi-wan Loungefly bag, but it wasnât like a guaranteed thing, but theyâre going to be in stock 2 months early and they sent an email confirming my order ^-^ today is a good day
âHe is,â Dooku paused, considering. âClever. He might appear unassuming if he werenât so vain. He knows to use that, helped by the silver tongue I dare say I nourished to its full potential. He digs and twists until he finds your weaknesses and uses them against you, he uses your strengths for even worse. Sees it as amusing and challenging to not use the Force to get what he wants, that appalling boy.â

I had to have a minor medical procedure today and the important thing is that they anesthetized me for it. I warned them up front that I do not wake up well from anesthesia, as in I wake up belligerent over my disorientation and ready to escape unfamiliar surroundings, and asked them to please make sure Sark was in the room when I woke up.
Highlights from today include:
They did not make sure Sark was in the room when I woke up
The hot second I had any amount of consciousness returned, I attempted to get out of the bed and was thwarted by the railing they left up and my technician repeatedly telling me to lie down, which I did not because I was CERTAIN that IÂ needed to leave.
I tried to remove my IV myself 15+ times in under 3 minutes and told the technician I could do it. I could not; I had asked the nurse who put it in to put extra tape on it so that I could not. I could also not remove the rest of the things they had me connected to, but only because I couldnât figure out how, not for lack of trying
I could not remember the technicianâs face because my facial blindness is MUCH worse when tired, and I called him Steven several times, and Josh. His name was Andrew.
My gown slipped down my shoulder in my struggles to escape, and the technician attempted to replace it and I told him âyouâve seen a boob, Steven.â His name was still Andrew, and the procedure space was an open outpatient area with other people
I was instructed not to bend over or the anesthetic would ârush to my headâ to which I responded in outrage âWELL WHERE THE HELL IS IT NOW?â
I asked everyone present âwho the hell are youâ and insisted the doctor tell me how to say her first name. They asked me if I remembered Sark when he arrived a minute later, and I stalled out entirely staring at him like a deer in headlights because I could not parse how he got there.
When they brought Sark in, the technician asked him âDoes she normally wake up like thisâ and Sark told him âDepends on when you wake her up.â which is very fair of him because he remembers that I was woken at 4am once by someone honking their horn repeatedly because they wanted to fight my neighbor, and I charged outside in pajamas across a field to go attack their car while shouting about how rude they were and that they could fight me. They did not want to fight me, if you were wondering.
Sark told me they fetched him from the waiting room by saying âmaybe you can come calm her down.â
This all happened in approximately 5 minutes, before I had gotten control of myself and could remember Andrewâs name and shape.
Andrew told me goodbye at the door and thanked me for being his most amusing patient today.
At least I managed to put my own clothes on and walk out the front door unassisted this time.
Yeah the last time I was anesthetized, as soon as I was conscious I managed to actually make it out of the bed, naked and confused, and the doctor was like âwell good luck with thatâ and left me squirming on the floor like an overturned turtle, shouting angrily at my mother that I could put my own clothes on while being entirely incapable of actually doing so. I remember being in the car afterward but not how I got there. I feel like this time was a vast improvement for me. Really taking a leap forward in dignity.
There are quite a few people reblogging this who are very angry on my behalf because the staff didnât listen to me and have Sark in the room when I woke up, and while it is very valid to be angry at the medical community in general for not listening to patients, I feel I need to make it clear that Sark being in the room was not for my benefit, it was for theirs. I would have done nothing different. I absolutely would still have attempted freedom and been just as belligerent. Sark has absolutely no ability to calm me down in that state, but he would have made Andrewâs job easier for him, like some kind of rehabber that is better at handling the feral raccoon than the vet thatâs just trying to do their job. Instead Andrew got to babysit my uncoordinated escape attempts personally, which I am positive he regretted enough to make up for not listening to me.
Do I want Cody to be in the series? Yes, Cody deserves more screen time. If itâs only in order to have Obi-wan kill him for more pain? No, try again.
