At least the answer meant that Maya wasn't hearing things. That was a bit reassuring. The person she had stopped seemed rather uninterested in the situation though. Maya felt a little guilty. She know how annoying it could be to be interrupted by strangers on the street. She was about it to brush the whole thing off and let the woman go about her day when the stranger said something else. Maya couldn't help the way her head tilted slightly, interested. "Like just cats? Or animals generally?" she asked before she could think better of it.
perhaps it was the lack of sleep that had rendered olusola's brains to cottage cheese, the young woman staring at maya again for a few silent beats as if she hadn't realised what she'd let slip. not that it was a secret -more people could to fantastical things in greywood than couldn't, and her own lack of anything magical had always been a sore spot. "i'm not a disney princess," sola responded. "that sounded harsher than i meant it. it's just cats...couldn't be anything too useful,"
Polly was amazed, in more ways than one by the knowledge this stranger held. She did as instructed, feeling the veggies, and listening to their sound, and it made sense to her.
What made her amazed was that someone knew about these things, and was willing to trade that information to her. After all, she didn't owe her anything, so it warmed her heart that something so simple could be shared.
"Thank you, I'm Polly, by the way. And you are?"
though training to be a nurse, olusola's first love would always be food - so many fond memories were centered around coven gatherings, egusi soup with fufu, salted dried fish and sweet puff puff. in university dorms, there had been a need to scrape and save and share whatever was made ; sola had traded 3 cheese, bacon and cranberry jam toasties for leftover bbq another girl had brought home from a party. even now, the young woman enjoyed taking the time to make a good and comforting meal, and then sharing leftovers with her fellow nursing students or neighbours.
"also," she interjected. "storage is important, some things do better in the fridge than others," the introduction made sola smile, offering out a hand to shake. "olusola. if i had friends, i'm sure they'd call me sola," she joked. "nice to meet you, polly,"

Maya knew that she was paranoid. Although, she liked to think she came by it honestly. But she was almost certain that she had heard a noise. She stopped, iced coffee in hand, listening. When she didn't heard anything again, she started walking again.
Which was, of course, when she heard it again. It sounded like something between a bark and a whimper. She perched her heart shaped sunglasses on top of her head, as if that would help her hear better. Looking around, Maya saw nothing that was an obvious source of the noise. Just when she was about to give up again, she heard it.
"Sorry," she finally said to a passerby, "Did you hear that?" It was still possible, after all, that she was just paranoid.
the question caught sola off guard, having been on the way back from another night shift, bleary eyed and only half still in the waking world while the one of sleep beckoned her constantly. "i just assumed it was like...not important?" olusola suggested, unable to make real sense of what was going on.
"is it a cat? i can get it if it's a cat, i can like...talk to them?" perhaps it was the only aspect of herself that was particularly fantastical, and even then it only existed within the confines of greywood. it wasn't that she didn't care, its rather than she heard an odd noise and got on with her day, minded her own business. also - she really needed her bed.

In the picturesque town of Greywood, nestled among the rolling hills and lush greenery, Polly found solace in the anonymity surrounding her. Here, she reveled in being Polly, free from the expectations and responsibilities tied to her family's prominence in the community and her successful fashion empire. Greywood provided her with a haven to cast off the public image she carefully maintained and live a life unencumbered by societal labels.
Within Greywood's serene embrace, Polly sought refuge from the scandal that engulfed her following a highly publicized outing with another woman. Striding through the quaint town, Polly made her way to the local market to personally select her groceries, a task she rarely undertook. The prospect of handpicking fresh produce and discerning its quality left her contemplating out loud, considering whether the internet could offer guidance in this uncharted territory.
"I wonder how you know the veggies are still fresh." She muttered to herself as she entered the grocery store.
she'd been quietly bopping along to some motown (the type her dad listened to, the stuff they'd sung along to in the kitchen during happy times) when the song when quiet, just enough time in-between one and another for her to hear the words of a red-headed stranger. olusola glanced over from trying to choose some fruit, wondering if the stranger wanted advice or not - unsolicited was so rarely appreciated.
"you don't, so you gotta use the 5 senses and decide yourself. see these dates? arbitrary, a rough guide, they completely warp how you look at vegetables," she began. "does the colour look good? smell nice? not too mushy in the palm? take - this melon," from the basket she held, olusola brought it up. it was cantaloupe, hard skin beautifully cracked with green fissures that almost segmented it.
"put it to your ear, and knock it - with your knuckles, not your head or anything. listen to it, it's hollow. means it's ripe, ready to go. anything else means she's gonna need a day or two on the counter before eating,"
she smiled. "there are ways to tell, you just need to learn them,"
she knew the stranger was genuinely sorry for what had happened, her apology incredibly sincere and olusola bent down to pick up the overly-large cup, hands sticky from where the remains of her drink were sliding down the edge of it. "s'fine. i'm kinda of a walking hazard," the young woman joked, waving them off as it had been an accident, after all.
it wasn't like she'd been looking where she was going either.
"i mean, if you wanna buy me an apology coffee i'm not going to say no,"
Collided - Morgana Baudelaire open starter
Morgana arrived in the small town, her vampire instincts bubbling just beneath the surface. It had been many years since she last set foot in this place, and she was taken aback by how much it had transformed. As she caught a glimpse of her son Joey, she felt a powerful longing to hold him once more. However, the guilt of leaving her children and the pain she had caused them held her back, like an invisible force keeping her at bay.
Lost in her thoughts, she accidentally collided with someone and quickly apologized, "Oh, I'm so sorry!"
greywood was a foreign place to olusola now, despite spending much of her younger years her, the woman had forgotten so much of the place. or, in her absence, had it simply changed? a few older members, some immortals had welcomed her back, remembering the little witch without magic fondly.
it felt lonely, though, despite the memories of others she didn't really have her own. even her brother felt like a stranger, the only thing occupying her time and thoughts was her placement. without someone breathing down her back, sola had even begun to wonder if it's what she truly wanted, to be a nurse...
two people lost in their own thoughts collided, olusola's stanley cup clanking loudly to the ground, the lid popping off and spilling her smoothie all over the floor. fan-fucking-tastic.
"that was the last of my dragonfruit," there was a genuinely melancholic edge to her voice. "in that smoothie," the apology wasn't heeded, dark eyes simply observing the growing pink splodge on the ground.
Avery can't help but to laugh at that, "You know if that worked with all of us, you'be hoding the cure to werewolf rage," he laughs again, shaking his head, he was lucky she was there that night, but she was lucky too, any other wolf and things may had not ended that well, "No more punching wolves, unless that's me, and I'm freaking out, you got a green light for that," honestly at this point he really could use a friend like her around. "Right, yeah, I know," he nods, "Medical TV shows, I know most of them suck but I did learn a little" Ave shrugs, "I just meant, we probably needed more because of our--condition."
"Come on now, I bet a lot of people would loved to be carried in strong wolf arms," he jokes, laughing a bit as they leave the appartment, he playfully bumps her shoulder. "Well--lets see, I can't leave the house of my own because of the rage," Ave raises a finger, "Got a crush on someone my friend is sort of with" he raises another finger, "before you say anything I didn't know they knew each other," he feels the need to clarify because without any context that does sound bad, last thing he wants is t come off as that friend,"and you know, I've been trying to exercice the--wild part of the wolf out of me, which sucks because most exercice I did before was picking up the guitars, so--" he laughs about his own recent struggles, shaking his head, what more was there to do? in all honesty "All good things. How about you?"
"a lot of people aren't me," sola responded, sticking her tongue out childishly at avery before laughing - macho wolves were nice but, those tempers? olusola could argue with the best of them yet didn't think she'd enjoy it 24/7. leaving the house felt great, taking in a gulp of fresh outside air, still warm thanks to the summer and stretching out as avery listed his woes.
"so glad i'm your emotional support dog today," the woman responded, lifting her arms up and listening to her elbows crack as she did so. "kind shit of your friend not to mention they were seeing someone though? especially if that friend knew you both had a mutual crush," olusola, of course, didn't know the whole story and was casting judgement as she saw fit.
"man, you wanna try jogging or lifting weights. or boxing? dunno, they're like...the only sports i can think of," she scratched her jawline. "fine. met this guy at work the other day who gave me the worst vibes and i've not stopped thinking if it was my fault, or there really is something up with him,"

Uriel shook his head at the question. "No, I can't move it. I'm hoping that's just because of the swelling, and it's not actually broken."
He held out the hand with the finger in question. It was now bruised enough to almost be black. He tried to move it, and got nothing. He could handle pain just fine. This was actually not that bad in the grand scheme of things. But he did care if this put him out of his job for however long it took to heal. He couldn't pour a drink with a broken finger. He couldn't garden. Couldn't wrestle, or swordfight. All of his hobbies needed a good pair of working hands. He didn't want to go back to sitting around at home with nothing to do all day.
"Sounds good to me." He said, and then, because he was bored, and wanted to press her buttons, he added. "You okay? Your face is a bit off. You look like you're tasting something sour."
no movement whatsoever, no attempt made, olusola wrote down in her scrawl on the board underneath, completely neutral statements as that was what had happened. "well, we still want to check for a possible break or a fracture to be on the safe side," she re-iterated, knowing that an ill-healed of either was bad news and could spell pain and disfigurement for the rest of uriel's life.
"hm?" the question caused sola to blink a few times before responding; "fine. no, sorry. just - don't wanna get this wrong!" the woman let out a slightly high laugh that would easily betray her lie but, she couldn't just be shitty to patients because she simply didn't like their vibes. that wasn't cool.
"is that all? any questions before i get you a referral?"
"I just thought maybe I woke up too hard or something today," Llewellyn guessed, rather stupidly, because he really wasn't sure what else it could be. He wished he had some more water, that's all he knew. This thinking business was getting a little too hard. The man shifted weight from foot to foot, clearly uncomfortable with her question because it was obvious the answers weren't coming to him fast enough. Which, in itself, was damned odd-- a person should know what their name was, right away. The day and date, that could be forgiven sometimes as brain rot, brain fatigue, what have you... But your name? That was harder to explain away as to why it took a day to recall it.
"I--" Llewellyn rubbed a hand over his face, grimacing. "Can I look at my wallet? I'm sorry, I just-- it's not coming to me right now.." But then he paused, thinking hard. "Llewellyn." How he managed to pluck that out of the depths of hell over here, Llewellyn couldn't be sure, but he knew it was correct. But the day and date.. "Uh.. when you say date.. do you mean like.. day and month.. year.." He needed more clarification before he could conjure that up, which again... was obviously weird.
"Olusola.. that is such a pretty and interesting name," Llew said this without thinking, as he had always been a man that often said what came to mind first. "Oh wow, got some luck left then, huh," he commented, thinking it was funny to run into someone in a nursing field while having this kind of problem. "Do you know if anyone else has had this problem? Maybe a virus is going around or something.."
the longer he stood, searching around an empty head trying to find solid answers, the more olusola's concern only grew more prominent. this man needed help, clearly, though persuading him to get it might prove difficult. sola couldn't force anything on him but, could maybe get some general details and drop it off for a wellness check in with paramedics or community officers. "llewllyn," she repeated. "that welsh?" an innocent question, trying to prod his brain a little more. prompting seemed to open up more possibilities.
"i need the date, month and then year, if you can," though, not really, the woman was confident in her assessment of some form of memory loss, or general confusion. maybe he was suffering from infection? that could caused brain fog like symptoms amongst individuals, and personality changes.
"most people with this kind of problem that present are usually suffering from head trauma, possible fit, excess of alcohol or drug use, onset dementia or alzheimer but - i think you're too young for the last two and - y'know, i'm not a doctor," olusola said very quickly, as she wasn't. "i still suggest you get checked out but, i...i can't really make you so...got a phone? anyone i can call, or like...escort you to someone's house?"
Avery nods as he listens to her, he doesn't find it funny, but he does finds it interesting, though, "Really? that's pretty intersting!" he tells her, "Wait, so if a wolf is having a freak out just how much tranquilizer would you need?" though to ba fair, he figures if a wolf is freaking out, he's gonna shift probalby not gonna have time to sedate it, he was still curious about it, though. "Could probably put you on my shoulder and carry you to the hospital with my new found wolf strenght" Avery jokes, though he probably could, he wonder how long until he got tired, "You alright?" he reaches out for her arm as she stumbls a little, "Fine, fine be skeptical all you want, it'll be more fun that way," he jokes, "Let's go," Ave says linking his arm to hers.
"we don't need tranq, we've got my right hook," the student joked waving it about afterwards before shrugging. "depends, same with a lot of sedation, on how heavy the individual is, the sex, how agitated they are...lots of factors affect its hold," olusola had been lucky enough to not have to witness such a thing at work yet but, that didn't mean it didn't happen.
"naw, that's embarrassing," sola shook her head at the joke of being carried, kicking her leg out a little to get some feeling back into the limb before stepping down heavily on it, still somewhat heavy now the pins and needles had subsided. their arms now linked, the two made their way outside, summers evening still warm and sky still light despite the time.
"so what's new with you then?"
"Then is for sure time for a break," Ave grins, he knows how hard it can be, when you're so dedicated to something, the tired brain, the feeling like you just wanna throw the books out the window, and her topic was even harder! So he could only imagine how exhausting it was. "Yeah, 'cause of the Wolf thing. I figure its better to not put myself and others at risk and you're not always there to slap the rage out of me," he chuckles, though, he was following Neylani's advice don't go out alone, have someone there to focus you out of the rage, "I mean, I'm finding out wolves eat a lot so..." He jokes.
"No seizing up! 'cause then I'm gonna have to save you and I have no fucking clue how to do that, you're the soon to be health care professional here, not me" Avery jokes along with her, reaching out his hand for her to take, "Come on then, lets go get some fresh air!"
"Hey! Dad would not appreciate hearing you say that, he's an exclent Cook! And he taught me very well, I mean actually cook, not... Just the basic stuff!" Ave nods, "Its not gonna sucks, gotta trust a little bit more on my skills, babe," the teases playfully, "So a short walk then we come back here to cook something?"
she knew avery struggled with being a wolf, the way he spoke about it as if it were a separate entity entirely and not part of his being - olusola couldn't imagine how it must be to house something so destructive within yourself. being human had its perks. "you wanna hear something cool?" it wasn't really cool but, sola decided to tell him anyways. "when we get wolves in ED with low blood sugar, we need to give them x3 times the amount of glucose we give humans because of the metabolism," she explained, shutting the book and sitting upwards.
"just put me on a rack and stretch me out," olusola commented, standing up and stumbling a little afterwards as she shook off pins and needles in them. "you need to show me, i'm the ultimate judge. short walk then cooking it is,"
Uriel didn't necessarily think that he needed to see a doctor. He got hurt all the time doing as many physical hobbies as he did. Nothing a finger splint and a good night's sleep couldn't fix. But when the night's sleep had rendered his smashed finger an unsightly black and blue, he'd thought that maybe he should come in. If nothing else, it was somewhat gross to look at, and he didn't want his customers to see it as it was. He wasn't sure if it was broken or not.
After waiting for a bit, Uriel was taken back into a room. The nursing student introduced herself. He nodded in greeting. "I'm Uriel Faulkner. Don't worry about it, I'm sure you're perfectly competent."
He stared back into her eyes, unsure of what she was looking for. When her face turned vaguely disgusted, he felt somewhat amused. She really wasn't good at that poker face. He wondered if she was put off by the smashed finger or if she'd sensed that he was Celestial. He couldn't get a good idea of what she was, which was strange. She didn't smell like a demon. Maybe it was just his mug that she had a problem with. That was most people's problem: the resting bitch face.
"I just need to make sure I didn't break my finger. It got injured when I was wrestling last night."
she couldn't pinpoint why her skin crawled uncomfortably around the patient, olusola always had good instincts when it came to people and it hadn't failed her yet. she may not be a witch like the rest of her family but, sola trusted her gut, whatever made it so obvious. "uriel faulkner," she noted down though, simply just ticking it on the clipboard, glad that the name and reason for being in ED were accurate.
"oh well, that's easy enough sorted," olusola observed the finger, then asked; "how's your mobility with it? can you flex the finger, bend it at all?"
her eyes looked at the finger. "probably just needs an xray, then a review of the picture. obviously, if it is broken a doctor will re-set it then we'll refer you to a clinic to check for proper healing,"

The male gave a helpless shrug and shook his head 'no', "I don't." There were no excuses that followed this simple statement, because quite frankly, Llewellyn didn't have any. He couldn't even come up with one off the top of his head if he tried. "Well I'd hope not," he looked taken aback by the suggestion, as it never occurred to him to consider anything like that. But maybe she was on to something? What if something he ate or drank had been spiked? What if he'd been knocked clean out, jumped by somebody? The possibilities stretched.
Llewellyn looked down at himself in some concern, wondering if there was anywhere he could see that he might be injured and just not feeling it or something. "Do I look like I need to go to the emergency room?" he genuinely asked, eyes back on her. "I don't feel anything-- am I bleeding? Does something look broken?" The male did a slow 360 spin, so she could check him over everywhere.
she shook her head as the stranger checked himself out, explaining further; "not physically hurt, no. i'm just concerned that you've clearly got some holes in your memory?" olusola said further, trying to remember what you were supposed to do in things like this. the man seemed too young to be suffering with memory issues that befell much older people like dementia or alzheimer's. "you don't look like you've suffered any obvious head trauma so..." the woman was only training to be a nurse but, could try and help.
"ah, try this. can you tell me your name, and what the day is today and the date?"
olusola paused, considering that though the man was docile, he might need help in trusting her - sometimes, people did when there potential mental health problems involved. "i'm olusola, by the way, i'm a nursing student so i do have some diea of what i'm talking about. promise,"
