A few days ago my mom and i were talking about my trip, and she asked for some ārealityā, i.e the nitty gritty, not-fun-at-all parts about doing what Iām doing, and i guess a lot of people think Iām having a big vacation over here. lol. So i realized how much Iāve kept from you guys! I guess i didnāt want you all worrying about me, i really like to make you smile ;) so Iām gonna go through a typical day of mine, including the not so fun stuff. I go to sleep at night, always camping, and some nights have dipped into the 30s. I would say that 1 in 4 nights Iām cold or shivering.. Iām also sleeping in a bivy sac, pictured above. Its very small and uncomfortable, but it saves weight! I guess what im trying to get at is, I hardly ever get good sleep. Usually in the morning I eat energy bars for breakfast, or maybe some oatmeal with raisins! Thats kinda a nicer morning. I love a warm meal when i can get one :) Pack up the tent, get on my bike shorts and get goin! Usually Iām on the bike for about 6-7 hours, and average 50-60 miles a day. Jeeez does my butt hurt, still havenāt gotten used to that.. But theres lots and lots of hills, some easy some hard. Headwinds are the worst, though. If theres a headwind, im moving at like 5 miles an hour.. Urg i hate it, Iāve had times of cursing and middle fingers at the wind and just pure frustration. Hahaha thatās when i remember this trip is a test and right then i am failing so i suck it up and glare at the wind instead⦠Lunch is tuna in a can and bread and butter. I am so sick of bread and butter. And im always snacking on trail mix which isnt so bad. Sometimes itās raining cats and dogs here, just gotta keep pedaling. But i kinda like it, that feeling of really wanting a shower cuz your so soaked with rain, but youāre getting showered on anyways so oh well.. On the road, the drivers arenāt always courteous, especially the log trucks but they donāt have much of a choice.. Some roads donāt have a shoulder. Every muscle in my body just clenches when i hear them coming up and pray with all my might they dont hit me. See why I dont mention this stuff? Lol. Once i reach my camp i finally get to relax a little. This is kinda my favorite part of the day, I love thinking āyeah! I just rode from here to here!ā set up the tent, and immediately take a warm shower and make dinner afterwards. Dinner is usually top ramen or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. On special occasions Iāll get fresh food from a grocery store! Maybe grill up sausages, like I did on Thanksgiving :) Iāve really had a hard time getting the daily vegetables, my diet is basically just carbs, nuts, and grains.. But when youāre biking this much you stop caring really, you just need the calories. oh and one more thing, i dont have a pillow. THIS IS WHY I MISS HOME. All in all, the good parts are really, really good. The bad parts can be really bad. I just want you all to understand that this isnāt necessarily a vacation but its not some kind of torture either! Theres two sides to a coin. :) See you all in 9 days ;)
