Stay Kind

“Try not to worry about it, stuff like this happens all the time. It’s like the universe is waiting for some romantic comedy moment to happen.” With a chuckle, Riley tried pulling the door open again, but it still didn’t budge. “I got this.” He tried once more but nothing happened. “Dammit.”

Rosalie sighed, putting her head in her hands. “I’m sure I’ll laugh when we’re free but right now it’s not very comedic. Or romantic. It’s more of a twisted April Fools joke.” She mumbled into her palms, at least she was stuck with a vampire--someone who could break the door without much of an issue. A sudden feeling of dread washed over the tiny elf when she heard him curse. “Dammit? What dammit?” Rosalie asked, getting up from the floor to get a better look. “I take back what I said. I’m not so sure I’ll be laughing later.”

“Yep.” After giving the door a couple of tugs, he confirmed what she told him then turned back to Rosalie. “I might have to get all ‘vamped out’ to pull this open.”

Pinching the bridge of her nose, the elf nodded slowly. “Go for it,” she said, the embarrassment oozing out of her. She really had been meaning to get that lock replaced, for this exact issue. “I’m so sorry about this.”

“So… when you said that there was something important to show me, did you mean that the door needed propping open and you forgot?” Riley turned to Rosalie who was standing awkwardly close to him, not really a good thing being trapped with a new vampire. “I got this.” he reached around her but brushed against her in the process. “Wanna swap places?”

Rosalie immediately tensed as she heard the door click. She closed her eyes tight slowly turning to face the vampire. In a slow almost defeated tone, she spoke. “Yes, I mean’t hold the door,” the elf opened her eyes to look up at Riley, doing her best not to fall over as they swapped places. Letting out a defeated sigh, “this is the one that locks automatically.” 

Bradley looked over at the house and then back at her before nodded.·“Yeah…I’m off the clock, so why not?” He smiled.·“And I should check on your fire detectors too.” He playfully winked.

Rosalie nodded, reaching to tuck a lock of hair behind her ear. She’d already been away for what felt like ages. What was an hour or two? “I mean, if you think that’s a good idea but something tells me they’re just fine.” She mused, nose crinkling as she let out a laugh. “Come on,” she said, walking in the door and neatly kicking a sweater out of the way. “I’d say don’t mind the mess but you’ve already seen it.”

Bradley watched the other. He was amused by the situation. “No need to apologize. Just promise to think before you heat.” He laughed. it didn’t make sense, but he just was messing around. “Just glad nothing serious happened.”

Rosalie opened her mouth to speak before simply nodding at him, “I promise.” She said, eyes flickering back at her house. “If you can deal with the smell of burnt plastic, I can make some tea and some of those PB and J’s. It’s the least I can do. no microwave required.”

Stumbling into town, Eli kept his hands close to his chest as if it would hide the blood covering them or his shirt. They were shaking, something he hadnt been able to stop the whole time he had been running and now that he was drained, it just seemed to be worse. He didn’t know where he was, not really. Only knowing about Redmour through overheard conversations in his old town that he wasnt suppose to listen to. His old town, his home… he could never go back now. Not after what he had done. That alone caused his breathing to speed up and he quickly realized that it was as if he wasnt getting any air in his lungs or at least not enough. God, what was he even going to do now that he was alone.

It’d been a very long shift at the hospital and Rosalie cursed herself silently for deciding to walk today. Spring had sprung which meant she no longer had an excuse to be cooped up indoors. Even if her feet now despised her. Spotting someone clearly distressed in the distance, Rosalie approached. “Hun, are you okay?” The elf asked in a sweet but stern tone as she assessed the situation. “I need you to walk back a couple of steps, there is a bench right behind you. We’re gonna’ sit you down. Can you do that?” Rosalie wasn’t sure if this was over stepping however she didn’t care. The last thing she needed was for him to pass out and crack his head open.

Brad stood outside a home. “Next time…do not put a metal fork in the microwave. That is probably the number one rule of cooking is to not put metal in a microwave, but I will let it slide.” He chuckled. “If you can’t do that, i guess just stick to making pb&j’s. Nothin’ wrong with that.”

Rosalie hugged the bathrobe tighter around her small frame, slippers soggy from the wet ground. She opened her mouth to speak---closed it, then opened it once more. “It really wasn’t on purpose,” the elf squeaked, placing a hand to her throat. “I was jus--It was just--.” She paused, letting out a sigh, “it’s been a very long two days.” The red haired woman finally settled on, not exactly wanting to admit just how exhausted she was. “I’m so sorry you had to come all the way out here for something so silly.”

Rhiannon found her gaze motioning up to the other, a small smile of embarrassment forming across her lips. “I suppose I just get lost in books easier than a screen. But, you might be onto something” She closed the book she had spread open on the table and gave a nod. “I’ve been trying to figure out other herbs for a blend I’m working on for calming purposes without inducing sleep.”

“Why is this so hard?” She groaned, pressing her face down into the books before her. She had been studying in the library through the night over new plant life and hadn’t found just quite what she had been searching for. She let out a heavy sigh, feeling defeated as she turned another page and peeked up at the window to the sun rising. Muttering to herself without realizing, “I should go home… Abaddon is probably angry…” And she shifted back, pressing her frame to the seat backing as she stretched her arms up.

Peeking up from the book she’d been buried in, Rosalie offered the blonde a smile. “This library is kind of outdated,” she said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “There are some computers that you can use, it might be more useful.” Glancing down at her page number she closed the book, setting it down on her lap. “What are you looking for?”

Elizabeth smiled, “no of course not Rosalie,” she said. “I’m just here enjoying my lunch and people watching.” She patted the seat next to her, “do you want to sit with me for a minute?”

Rosalie smiled gently before taking a seat next to her friend. “See anyone interesting?” She mused, eyes flickering around the foliage. Being surrounded by nature was something she could never give up. Even if the sky was a constant gray.

The security firm was booming, it was used for almost every event, with wolves being what she employed mostly, it made the townspeople more comfortable using her when they have something that needs protecting. Sitting in the park, Liza was on lunch, doing some people watching. When someone walked up to her, she looked up at them, “need help?” She asked, more out of politness than actually wanting to help someone.

Rosalie offered a gentle smile, nuzzling snugly into her scarf. Rosalie enjoyed the outdoors the thing she didn’t like was the cold. “No, I was just going for a walk and I saw a familiar face.” The elf said simply. “But if now isn’t a good time, that’s okay too.”
