The roaring of thunder rolled through the manor, shaking the tall glass panels as Selena stared out towards the garden. Her chin propped up on a palm as she watched silver sheets of rain turn the landscape into a hazy impressionism of itself before her eyes. The rhythmic tat-tat-tat of droplets like a metronome, keeping in time with the enchanted music box she played on her lap. Branches swayed and roses drooped, the wind whistling against the manor walls. Her eyes slowly glazed over as her mind wandered into the dense forests, imagining herself walking barefoot amongst the grass and pine in nothing but a soft, knee length nightgown.
Beyond the trees, twigs snap under large golden paws, claws digging into the softened soil. A rumble like thunder echoed through the trees, emerald eyes flashing in the distance.
Thump-thump-thump
Her heart leaped as she took off in a sprint, dodging bushes, jumping over thick protruding roots. Selena’s bare feet splashed through the mud and dirt as she lifted the hem of her nightgown wanting to tangle between her legs. Her hair left loose and wild, damp from the storm cutting through the trees.
Thump-thump-thump
A blur of golden feline grace weaving between the trees. Lupine fangs gleam as his lips curl back, tail swishing behind him. Large claws dig into a nearby tree trunk as he makes a sharp turn, leaving harsh gashes in the bark, as he follows the scent of pear, roses, and cedar. Ears peak and twitch at the sound of her heart beat, the rough unevenness of her breathing, and the crunch of leaves in soft dirt.
Thump-thump-thump
As Selena reached the clearing, a massive paw flew through the darkness, clamping on her shoulder and yanking her to spin around, nearly knocking her off balance. The paw slowly became a clawed hand as she looked up at the beast before her, gilded fur fading into man, or well, fae. Those emerald eyes pinned her where she stood, her breath held in her throat as their eyes met, long golden hair sticking to his sun-kissed skin. Antlers still stood proud atop his head, covered in moss and small wild flowers. His broad chest was bare, revealing the scar over his heart, pectorals rising and falling under the hand she placed on him.
Without a word, Tamlin weaved his claws through her dark wet hair, leaning down to capture her lips, his other arm wrapping around her waist, the soft cotton of her nightgown against his skin. His tongue brushed the seam on her plush lips before she opened for him, lashes brushing her flushed cheeks. The kiss was warm and deep, causing her to feel butterflies dance in her lower belly. A growl rumbled in his chest before the arm around her waist slid down to cup her thigh, hauling her up to wrap her legs around him as he spun to press her against a tree, his lips unyielding in its attack. She felt something hard and wanting against her through the fabric of his trousers as his lips trailed from her mouth to run sweet kisses across her jaw and down the soft flesh of her neck before withdrawing for a moment. His canines lengthened as his claws dug into her thigh. Warm breath caressed her skin, making her flush. He nipped and sucked at her neck, pulling a soft moan from her, her own hands slipping into his golden locks to tug at the strands.
The rain around them felt like it created a curtain of mist, leaving them to their own private world. Heartbeat to heartbeat. The nightgown clinging to her curves as she pressed her chest against his. She should push him away, but every nerve in her body wants to pull him closer. The hand in his hair grabs on to one of the antlers, fingers brushing soft moss, as he bites down on her shoulder, making her arch her back and gasp before melting into another delicious moan. Tears well in her eyes as his claws rake against the supple flesh on her thighs without breaking the skin. Her skin heats as sparks of starlight dance across her skin, eyes shimmering with moonlight for a moment. His tongue soothes the mark before looking at her face, breath shallow. A knuckle comes up to brush her cheek softly before kissing her once more with fevered hunger.

As Selena was lost in the fantasy of being ravaged by her handsome beast, boots tapped on marble behind her. Large hands ran over her shoulders as a soft kiss to the crown of her head stirred her.
A deep voice rumbled as lightning strikes, feeling him in her bones, “What has you so captivated, my little rose?”

👑 Rhysand claims he’d bow for nothing but his own crown, and sure he believed that until he met the person he realized would never kneel to him, which somehow made this insane little part of him want nothing more to drop to his knees for her instead. Enemies to lovers was an understatement when it came to his relationship with Selena. He had to work for every bit of softness from her and she did not make it easy, holding him accountable for each and every sin she found of his. Every manipulation, every honeyed word, they all fell on deaf ears with her, and honestly he tried at first to persuade her to see things his way but the more she defied him, the more he couldn’t bring himself to fall on his usual tricks and schemes. She was his equal, a true equal. One that saw beyond his masks and held up a mirror to him. She didn’t fawn or worship him, she treated him as another arrogant male. Her strong stubborn will only excited him once the initial frustration and annoyance melted away and all that was left was this burning desire to earn her trust and her time. She made him want to be different… better. For the first time, his crown felt small compared to the way he burned for her.
🏔️ The first time Selena saw the tattoos of the Night Court insignia just under his knees, she burst out laughing. His dramatic explanation for what they represented did not help her stop giggling. She teased that with his flare for dramatics, he should have been an actor in another life instead of a High Lord. He was absolutely exasperated as he tried to tell her it was a very symbolic gesture, but that only made things worse. Her sides were hurting from how ridiculous the tattoos looked, especially since he apparently insisted that it had to be both knees. It ended with him chuckling at himself helplessly as he realizes he may have been a tad overzealous. He did get her back for laughing later though, making sure to successfully fluster her, finally. He’s lucky she didn’t throw another shoe at him.
🦇 The first time Rhysand kneeled for her was the first time she willingly chose to return to the Night Court. He had finally realized he was falling for Selena and was so relieved she was safe that he dropped to his knees and pressed his forehead to her stomach the moment they were alone. She was dirty and a little bloody from the fights that she got into to get to him and the others, but he didn’t care, he didn’t want to let her go. Unfortunately the sweet moment was ruined the second Rhysand tried to make a negatively accusing remark about Tamlin as the reason she came back to him, which resulted in yet another argument with her defending Tamlin, as always. He knew it was a losing battle with her, but jealousy and rivalry made him dismiss any notion from her that Tamlin wasn’t at fault or the villain in their story. She was stubborn and frustrating, but Mother above, that was part of the reason he couldn’t stop falling for her.
💋 When things have gotten more intimate with Selena as time goes on, he found he quite enjoys kneeling for her in the bedroom and letting her take the reins for a while. He has even tried to convince her to take charge while wearing one of the tiaras from the Night Court treasury. The game is exciting, but one of her goals is to figure out how to get him to genuinely beg while he’s on his knees someday. He’d love to see her try, claiming no one makes the High Lord of Night beg unless he chooses to.
