wesley gets someone else to narrate for him because he can't face his own actions

crumble doesn't initially get to narrate and has her story told to her through a script. she only gets to narrate herself when she remembers what happened to her

I just watched "daybreak" the netflix tv show, and despite the potentially cringey and corny premise of it, this show will hit you in the guts with the theme of grief when you least expect it. I'd argue, this show is centred around grief, even if you don't realize it at first. Most of the characters and their arcs are soaked and dripping in grief.

From the homeschooled 10 year-old girl, whose mother is in a submarine and who only ever seeked out human connection, all the way to the supposed main character, whose driving force was the loss of his ex-girlfriend and the search after her, and who has supressed his grief over the death of his father and probably also his mum.

And maybe grief as a theme was inevitable, as most post-apocalyptic stories are - at the very least subconsciously- about characters grieving the world they once knew, that no-longer exists.
