Okay. I am going to be a bit controversial
From a storytelling point of view. i am glad Crosshair didn't go with the Bad Batch at the end of this episode.
Let me make it clear. I like Crosshair, I like Hunter, i am not coming here to villainise either of them or alienate their fans. I am merely going to explain how the situation is substantial and refreshing from a television standpoint.
And before I get murdered. Hear me out.
Neither Crosshair or Hunter were right in their treatment of each other throughout the season. The @thememerman made a really good post about it here.
I really love complex characterisation. Characters that reflect real people, and real conflicts. And family conflict is literally one of the hardest things to ever sort out or navigate
The guilt, the grief, but the steadfast position of both Hunter and Crosshair ā and by extension the rest of the bad batch, when it came to dealing with the decisions both the bad batch and Crosshair made, felt realistic
There were olive branches extended on both sides. Crosshairās to get the batch to join the empire and stay with him, and the Batchās to go with them away from the empire.
It's the interplay between the longing for family and differing ideological positions that makes Crosshair staying back make sense.
The ideological disconnect between Crosshair and Hunterā both people who were doing what they thought was right, both feeling betrayed by the other and as a result, doubling down on thier own beliefs. And we are shown how despite this, they still want to be brothers despite "wanting different things"
Crosshair's way of doubling down was sticking with his new path, and Hunter's was being able to leave him behind.
Because at the end of the day no one is fully good, no one is fully bad, people believe in what they believe in, and famillies are hard
I'm tired of never seeing that complexity, and for people expecting that characters have to be perfect. No, they are flawed.
and seeing this kind of conflict so well represented on screen and not tied off neatly in a bow for the sake of the season finale or for fans makes me quite satsified.
We will be able to see Crosshair grow and change, be able to see him prove Tech wrong. we will be able to see Hunter reflect on his decisions, because Crosshair challenged him and thats what Hunter's character needs.
Itās human, itās families
And I am actually glad we didnāt get a cop out
LITERALLY ME RN

This is the way. (Iāll see you again. I promise.)
āHe doesnāt want to go with you.āĀ Ā āHe wants your permission.āĀ I didnāt think anything could destroy me like that, but I am absolutely gutted by it, how Grogu must have felt torn between these two worlds, how the Force called to him, how connecting with that energy field that was woven so deeply into his soul, feeling at war with how he loves Din and has such a strong attachment to him, and possibly even that Grogu himself knows that his feelings for Din are potentially so very dangerous, he apparently understands a lot.Ā How much might he have understood about what happens to Jedi who fall prey to attachment, to the desire to own people, to possess them, as thatās what attachment is, not love, but the desire to keep them for yourself because youĀ are afraid to live without them. The way he perks up when he senses Luke, the way Luke clarifies that Groguās hesitance isnāt because he doesnāt want to go, but because he cares about Din and wants his permission, wants his approval, because he lovesĀ Din.Ā That just destroyed me, thinking about how hard that must have been for Grogu, to parse his feelings that way, after everything heād been through, all the sheer terrorĀ of the genocide of the Jedi, then of all the years in between that heād been kidnapped by the Empire or by pirates and by Moff Gideon again, that it keeps happening.Ā That itāll keep happening, whether itās Moff Gideon or someone else looking to profit off a Force-sensitive in this shitty, shitty galaxy. And how much Grogu must have wantedĀ to go with Luke.Ā To go with a Jedi that was Groguās earliest memories, that was someone he could speak to through the Force and have them understand him back, to understand what this tremendous connection to the galaxy means.Ā To have it in your mind and heart the entire time. But to also honor his connection with Din, especially since I assume theyāll eventually be brought back together, but right now it was Groguās decision to want to go and he did want to go, so Din let him go, because thatās the heart of Star Wars, that if someone wants to go, you let them.Ā You love them, you protect them, but you donāt own them. Din, too, had to struggle with this and his willingness to let Grogu go was heartbreaking but also I have never loved Din Djarin more, for the strength it took to do that.
