When you can stop making me cry?
Why soothe and salve my fears
When you can stop scaring me with goodbyes?
Why apologize for breaking my heart
When you don’t have to go away?
Why anguish over being apart
When you can choose to stay?
Because I can try and still be unable to stop you from crying,
So in acts of redemption I wipe away your tears,
Because I am weak and a mess thinking you’re better off without me,
So I try to ease and soothe your fears,
Because I don’t want to go away but heartlessness takes me away,
So I break you heart for mine hasn’t existed in a while,
Because I want to stay and yet I’m afraid, of scarring you, the beautiful you,
So I feel lost in the distance away from you, for perhaps where you are, is where I’ll find my heart too.
Perhaps the beauty of what could be
Will stay stuck in our poetry.
Prose both revealing and masking,
Poems both protecting and hurting.
Why bridge hearts with words of forever,
When we know we can never be together?
Perhaps the magic will someday unfold for us,
And give life to the words and poetry we have shared,
Prose where we spilled our hearts, whatever remained of them,
Poems where our hearts spilled us, whatever remained of us,
For plausibly within our hearts there’s a certain forever,
For us, even if not in this life, maybe in the next we’ll get to be together.
