It's very amusing to think about Raito in episode 13 mostly cause "Okay he's a douche but he seems kind of chill and friendly so far— oh shit he's unhinged oh my GOD" was truly one of my first impressions of a character ever
On this topic though I really miss fake ass bitch Raito I know we don't have much more time in the show but it'd be nice to see him be fake polite to people again

Btw guys I just wanna say again real quick since this matters in the beatbreak fandom but I tend to use one ship name per ship when tagging for blog organization reasons regardless of dynamic so for example if I tagged something kaikyo when the dynamic is technically kyokai I'm sorry 😭

Raito hearing about his new mentor apparently achieving mega level without sacrificing copious amounts of people in the process and being low-key salty cause did Klay seriously ruin his and so many other people's lives recruiting and manipulating them into his military organization to use them as e-pulse fodder to force an evolution into mega because he had a skill issue
Okay on a more serious note though I do think the reason why raitomo could still work out while kaikyo crashed and burned (no pun intended) is tied to a key difference between them
Raito fell for Tomoro after Tomoro had had his change for the better (in fact Tomoro in turn helped Raito change for the better too)
Kaito fell for Kyo before he changed and couldn't handle it when he did
Anyway I think this is most clearly reflected in how Kaito wanted to indulge Kyo's murderous rage while Raito stopped Tomoro from losing himself to his
Both Kaito and Kyo had some incredible face journeys this episode, and I had a lot of fun going through them frame by frame, but some of my favorites have to be:
The way Kaito's shock becomes outrage, and Kyo's clear regret and shame. "Kyo the Golden" is what Kaito's always been chasing, but now "Kyo the Golden" has become someone shameful to Kyo...
And then Kaito goes from outrage to...this. Complete anguish. He can't stand the sight of Kyo's jewel tossed at his feet like his status as a Star means nothing. That it's something Kyo can discard.
What really gets me is that this action means completely different things to each of them. By throwing out his jewel, Kyo is throwing away his cruelty. The years of bloodshed. But Kaito sees this action and thinks Kyo is throwing away their years together, their thousands of days of competing to be the strongest cleaner. On the deepest level, Kaito thinks Kyo is throwing him away, when that not what Kyo meant at all!!
And then, just like in episode 11, when Kaito threatened Tomoro, Kaito's thinking, if I get rid of that thing you're protecting, things will go back to normal, right? Because he doesn't understand that it's not about one person or Digimon. Kyo can never go back to who he was before Nirinso, because that person was never really real to begin with.
And then, this:
Kyo really thought Kaito wouldn't do it.

All of these are literally Jedi and Sith fits
