They first appeared in the Ponyville Mysteries book Riddle of the Rusty Horseshoe, before appearing in Ponyville Mysteries Comic #3. They appear in the show in Season 9 episode 12 “The Last Crusade”, using a different design from the comics but with the same relationships nonetheless.
