a spring flower, forced to bloom in winter;
ââ  hey, isnât that GABRIELLE DELACOUR? i read a daily prophet article on them, once ; the TWENTY-TWO year old ÂŒ VEELA WITCH is a BEAUXBATONS alumnus who has gone on to be CURRENTLY UNEMPLOYED. iâve heard they can be quite OPEN MINDED & CHARMING, but i donât know⊠they came off very ENTITLED & SCATTER-BRAINED in that interview. it really is hard to know what to believe these days though, isnât it?  [ lux, 21, utc-5, she/her ]

- once upon a time there was a girl;Â
who opened her eyes to the world, taking everything in as soon as she could. she was born in nice, france with a silver spoon in her mouth, doting parents and the best oldest sister anyone could wish for. her childhood was easy, a bit too easy maybe, if you consider those first years the key to building life skills and character. her sister, being eight years older, was her role model and the apple on her parentâs eyes. fleur left for beauxbatons when gabrielle was still a little child, filling her head with stories about magical creatures, blue uniforms and an infinite amount of spells every winter and summer break she came to visit. she was delighted when she finally turned ten and got to attend, making her parents buy her too many supplies and a cat that ran away as soon as it got the chance. her first year was shaping up to be perfect, her last name, veela blood and preceding reputation helped on the friend department, and school wasnât quite easy but it wasnât hard either, earning her sufficient enough grades. it was all great until her sister decided to join the triwizard tournament, taking gabrielle to hogwarts with her, everyone confident beauxbatons would get their sixty-second win. she wasnât expecting to almost drown under a lake, or to actually presence a death (her first, but no the last), or any of the things that would follow in the next years that would leave her, and the others around, deeply scarred.
- and a shadow;
her sister left beauxbatons and it was up to gabrielle to follow her legacy, a role she was too stubborn, too scared, too different to fill. in her eyes, she couldnât hold a flame to everything fleur had managed to be, drowning in the expectations everyone seemed to have of her. her first year had left a mark on her, and she decided she wanted to run as far away as she could from anything related to you-know-who, and the impeding war. she retreated and shed who she was, leaving behind the tiny fleur-look alike, and becoming pink-haired gabrielle, who was charming, flirty and everything her parents once told her not to be. she gained the attention from boys and girls, batting her long eyelashes and wide hips to bend wills, but it took her until her fifth year to truly realize it was the latterâs she really craved. she got her heart broken by a girl she never even confessed to, locked her feelings deep to never give others a reason to knock her off the delacour pedestal even further, attended the worst wedding in the history of weddings (got deeply scarred by it too), and got whisked away by her parents and sent back to nice, where she only received news of the war while her friends, her family, her sister, risked their lives. what a way to end her fifth year.
- and a fallen princess;
tucked away in her ivory tower, gabrielle felt useless. she wasnât truly rushing to go to war, didnât think she would be any good either, but she knew she couldâve done something, anything. kids younger than her were getting hurt, even dying, while she got to eat breakfast in bed and swim in her grandmotherâs pool, only stopping once everyday to receive an owl from her parents, who tried to sugarcoat everything that happened. she felt guilty, and guilty about feeling guilty, disappointed she wasnât brave enough to even try to fight. then harry potter died, and everyone tried to return to normal. her sixth year was surreal, everything was so normal it felt wrong, battle scars were ignored and classes were continued as if nothing had happened. some of the students that had bravely fought in hogwarts decided to transfer there, and those who returned werenât really excited to mingle with their fellow students, knowing they would never understand what it actually was like. gabrielle remembered the icy heavy air she felt when the death eatersâs attacked, still feels it every night around her neck, choking her to sleep. one night she decided to learn how to conjure her patronous for extra protection, only to be able to produce a shapeless glimmer of light that failed to soothe her nightmares. quickly her sixth year ended, and then the seventh rushed by, leaving her head spinning with possibilities, and future jobs, and tests she managed to pass by and expectations all over again. she decided to wait, to take some time off and find out who she was. her parentâs wealth afforded her the time to sit down âto figure outâ her life, but so far it has only tangled up further, forcing her to watch her friends grow up and make real lives without her.Â
