Dr. Mensah is also strong in the show. All of the characters in the show respect her. None of them think she's weak.

True, the show version of her is not perfectly stoic, but nobody from Preservation is. The show went out of its way to portray Preservation as a culture that values emotional intelligence and empathy and honesty and vulnerability. This is a culture that views emotional repression as a character flaw, not a character strength.

Dr. Mensah has all of the qualities that her culture respects. She is not stoic because her culture does not value or respect stoicism.

Oh. I get it. So when you said nobody respects her, you meant that you don't respect her. Because you're abelist.

Yes, she has panic attacks. And she faces her fears and makes hard decisions and does what needs to be done while having those panic attacks. That doesn't look weak and pathetic. That looks brave and admirable.

I have been watching youtube reaction videos of the tv series. Most of the people making those videos haven't read the books. And I'm not seeing people who are new to the fandom looking down on Dr. Mensah. They're not comparing her to the book version and they don't fine her lacking as she's presented.

In fact, they're talking about what a badass Dr. Mensah is for going in and rescuing MB by attacking that hostile secunit with a mining drill.

They think the fact that she overcame an anxiety order to do it makes her even more badass.

If you find it impossible to respect black female characters who have vulnerabilities and flaws and show emotion, then I think you're in no position to be calling other people racist.
