if i must get into the story i'll say avery didn't see or think of that moment as assault and neither did the other characters. bc it wasn't written to be that, because it was meant to be playing into a romance trope, and the ambiguous consent is part of the trope, because the point is that the characters may want to kiss each other but neither would actually choose to do it until pushed into that situation. i can't bring myself to see it as anything much beyond that, and so i can't really engage with this discussion with the watsonian focus i've so far seen it engaged with by the fandom. like if y'all were at least discussing whether the trope is "problematic" or not, or about why it's as popular and common as it is and what makes writers choose to write it and certain readers prefer it, it'd be kinda tuned in, but as it is.... girl whatever 😭😭😭😭😭
