grayson kissed avery without her consent and in the real world yes that would be sexual assault to anyone with eyes but avery and grayson are characters in a story that in that moment was utilizing the extremely popular romance trope of making two characters kiss impulsively or suddenly bc of x or y situation for the sake of pushing them into confronting their mutuals feelings they otherwise would've kept repressed, all this for the sake of furthering their relationship and the romantic drama of the story.

it's a cousin of the forced proximity trope; they're trying to ignore and push down their feelings and would not in their right minds choose to kiss each other rn so the narrative creates a situation that makes them do it anyway to bring those feeling back up and stir the pot. and so personally i don't care about the 7000th rehashing of a top 5 most popular romance tropes oat like of courseeee he shut her up with a kiss in front of live tv and she kissed him back and it was a whole thing of course they did that. it's whatever.

KEITH HAWTHORNE!

I didn't know what I was thinking before I decided to spray paint a whole wall the day after school had started. Maybe it was because I wanted to piss my mom of or because I wanted to get expelled. I had always loved spray painting, it was art but in a slightly more illegal way, clearly Ms. Hannigan the principal of my school thought it was more illegal than art or she just wanted to meet my dad Grayson Hawthorne in person. That was why she'd called him. That was also the reason I was currently in the car with my dad, Grayson Hawthorne and my older brother Jamie who had decided to come along. We both knew it was just an excuse for him to see me get scolded. And an excuse for him to revise in front of the principal. Wannabe fucking good boy and somehow I was one of his only friends. Dad was blabbing about something and made me take my airpods out to listen.“- i mean honestly keith what were you thinking”, dad said. “ Honestly I wasn't.” The short reply. It was probably the best move in this situation. Avoiding further conversation until we got to the school. Jamie was in the backseat revising something for a stupid test he was having, he'd promised me he would take a break but he clearly hadn't. And a DAY after school had started as well. “So, Grayson said, was the painting at least pretty?” “If I can say so myself”“You should be thankful your mom wasn't home”When we had pulled up to the school, dad got out of the car first, Jamie punched my arm and I put on my airpods again. The fucking principals office was bigger than the art room and fancier, why New York had such a school was still a mystery to me. There were million dollar paintings on the walls and marble floors, even the the sign in front of Ms. Hannigan's office was made of gold. Bitch. She’d had something against me since freshman year. Why? That's a question nobody can answer. When she let us inside of her office even Jamie noticed her eyeing our dad. Doesn't she have one ounce of self respect. She issued dad to sit down at the desk, welcomed Jamie and gave me a look.“I hope you know the reason we called you in here tonight, Mr. Hawthorne” “I do, so let's get this over with as soon as possible, how does 25, 000 dollars sound to you?” he leaned back. Grayson Hawthorne was bribing a principal. She looked like she considered taking the offer but rejected it.“Keith vandalized school property. A private one as well. We can't leave him unpunished. He doesn't even have anything to defend him” she said. After that the room got quiet, dad was waiting for me to say something. Jamie was revising, again. I took of my airpods, looked at Ms. Hannigan, then my dad, then Ms. Hannigan again and then I decided to finally say something. “Last time I heard this school was supposed to support the students' way of expressing themselves. Art is a form of expression. Expressing emotions and words in a way not everybody can understand”, I said and considered leaning back against the wall, I didn't. “Spray painting is a form of vandalism according to the police, unless you have permission” Ms. Hannigan said. “It’s paint in a spray bottle the school - and the police should register that as art, then again I have nothing in defense against what I did” Keith 1 point, Ms. Hannigan 0. “I agree with my son, I'll pay you 250 000 dollars to let him go, it'll be enough to fund the wall he vandalized”, dad said. She agreed.

Grayson pov (for like three seconds but who cares it's important)

“So, would you care to explain where you went with Jamie and Keith this afternoon?” Lyra asked. Not that goddamn look. “Jamie didn't do anything, I know that, and he doesn't play football anymore. You had no reason” she wrapped her arms around my neck.“I can't take my children out anymore?” I didn't even stutter, smart move.“Just tell me where you went, Grayson.” I knew for a fact that Keith and I weren't going to have a conversation and talk for another week, but how could I lie to her? We made a deal. No more lies. And she'd probably threaten me with divorce if I didn't tell her the truth. Now. “Keith got into trouble- spray painting a wall at the school and I had to go to a meeting, Jamie only came along because he wanted to. “She kissed my cheek and left the room. I decided to go to the kitchen and make dinner, to avoid seeing what was going to happen.

And I don't even care, it's not my fault Ms. Hannigan is such a bitch” i was trying to keep calm but with mom starting me down like she was going to murder me and Nora grinning like an idiot outside of the doorway, it's a bit of a challenge. “Listen here mister, no games, no sketching and no form of art for two weeks. Oh, and your grounded. Starting on Monday so I can keep track“ Then she left. Not a word, not a glance. She was putting me though hell and enjoying it.
