Oneshot 3 - Hairstyling

"Daaad, what are you doing?", laughed Toby, so sweet and oblivious.

"Hold still, kiddo, you'll see", said Harvey.

The two were in the bathroom. They had their hair washed and decided to play hairdressers. Harvey took out some of his hair gel jars. Something he didn't use since he left Eun-Mi... Those things were bringing back very unpleasant memories, but for the sake of Toby's happiness, he tried his best to ignore it.

Harvey put some hair gel on his palms and began to style Toby's hair. His son's hair wasn't long, so what he tried to do was a bit difficult, but in the end, he managed to make a cool looking mohawk. Harvey tilted his head, acting like a real, professional hairdresser.

"Mm, I say... You look like the coolest guy in the whole world", he said, trying to hide his chuckles. "All the girls will look your way, believe me"

Toby looked at his reflection in the mirror and laughed. He loved his new hairstyle. Toby looked at his father, with those sparks of joy in his eyes.

"I look so cool!", he said. "But you need a new hairstyle too. Let me help!"

Harvey laughed quietly, and sat down on a chair, so his son could play with his hair. His hair that still had that pink colour, but black roots were showing. Harvey didn't even think about bleaching and dying it again. He simply didn't have time. And motivation.

Toby dipped his little hands in the jar full of hair gel, before Harvey could even tell him how to use the product. The little boy then began to play with his father's hair. He stuck his tongue out, as he grabbed some hair and began to shape it. That focus in his eyes. It could only mean Toby was working on a masterpiece of a hairstyle. And when he was done, Harvey could see for his own eyes.

His hair was formed in the shape of a... Horn? Toby laughed when he saw his dad's reaction.

"You're a unicorn now!", said the boy. "Do you like it?"

Harvey laughed as well, now seeing the resemblance.

"Aah, you're right! I am a real unicorn now", joked Harvey. "You know, unicorns can gain wishes. Do you have any?"

Toby tapped his chin, thinking about his wish.

"You can wish for anything", continued Harvey, with that little smile on his face. "You can wish for a plate full of pancakes, or a new toy, or-"

"I wish for you to be happy again"

Oneshot 2 - Visitation

The park was full of laughter and joyful screaming of kids. With such a beautiful day, it would be a crime to waste it by spending time at home. Harvey thought the same. And for today's visitation with Eun-Mi, he chose a park, that was quite away from his new home. Harvey didn't wish for his ex wife to know where he lived.

Harvey was sitting on the bench, keeping his eye on Toby, who was playing with Eun-Mi in a sand box. The woman didn't seem to enjoy being dirty with the sand, but she kept the smiling face for her son. Harvey sighed heavily. If he could, he'd never let Eun-Mi even look at Toby. After everything she did to him, in his eyes, she lost the privilege of having a mother's title. But Toby still needed her. Only for his son, Harvey was going to at least tolerate her presence.

Eun-Mi gently stroked Toby's head, then she got up and dusted herself off. She hated being dirty, but didn't say it out loud in front of Toby. She needed a little break. Eun-Mi walked up to the bench where Harvey was sitting. The man could feel his whole body tense. He wanted her to stay away, as far as possible. Eun-Mi sat down, at the other end of the bench. There was heavy silence between them. Eun-Mi cleared her throat quietly and looked at Harvey, wanting to tell him something, but Harvey only gave her that cold look, that was saying more than a thousand words. Harvey was rarely upset. It was really hard to make him angry. But after everything that happened in the simulator, it looked like that old, good and kind Harvey was gone. And Eun-Mi knew she killed him.

"You can't pretend I don't exist", she murmured as she looked away. "What happened is in the past. We don't have to love each other anymore, but at least we can be civil"

"Trust me, I'm as civil as possible around you...", Harvey murmured back, closing his fists in anger.

The fact Eun-Mi didn't see anything wrong in her actions was more than upsetting. But Harvey had to control his emotions. He was in public, and Toby was near. He really wanted to spare him the view.

Toby finished building his sandcastle. He looked at his work with pride, then, he turned his gaze at his parents.

"Dad, mom, look! I made a castle! Can I live in it??", asked Toby with that sweet innocence in his voice.

That was enough to melt Harvey's heart and to put a smile on his face.

"If we find a way to shrink you, then sure, buddy!", called Harvey. "But make sure to make some space for me!"

Eun-Mi tried to hide her rolling eyes, but it didn't go unnoticed by Harvey.

Oneshot 1 - Sleepless Night

Harvey was sitting alone at the table. It was late evening, but despite it, he didn't feel like sleeping. It was one of those many nights, where sleep wasn't coming to him. It wasn't like he was trying anyway. Harvey didn't feel like trying. Nothing was helping. A warm glass of milk, chamomile tea, even the smoothing sound of rain, softly hitting against the window. Nothing could help.

Harvey's mind was racing. The memories of the simulator, the pain and torture, it was all still there, fresh and hurtful. He couldn't push those thoughts away. It was like it became a part of him. Like a tumor he couldn't treat, that was slowly killing him inside. Harvey took a deep breath.

"It's all gone...", he said quietly. "You're no longer in that game, you're free..."

Harvey was repeating that over and over. Like a mantra that was supposed to make things easier. But it didn't. It was only reminding him of the pain. The stabbing, the lost eye and cut hand. The burns on his body and...

Another deep breath. Harvey couldn't control his mind, he couldn't control those thoughts. The thoughts that were pushing an idea of ending it all... Harvey closed his eyes, trying to push it away, when suddenly...

"Dad...?"

A voice. Harvey opened his eyes and turned to the door. Toby was standing there, holding a dinosaur plush close to his chest. He looked worried.

"Dad, is everything okay...?", asked Toby.

"Y-yes, champ, everything is okay", Harvey tried to force a smile on his face. "Daddy is thinking a lot, that's all. Why aren't you in bed? It's late"

"I can't sleep...", Toby hugged his dinosaur. "Can I sleep with you tonight?"

Harvey pushed himself up. He walked up to his son and picked him up. In the past, Harvey didn't think much about that activity. But now, holding Toby close to him, felt like holding onto a lifeline. The only thing that was keeping him going. The only reason to live and fight.
