It's so cringe but I am free so I'll try to explain what I have so far.

Mr. Darling is the poster child of a little known cult that dwells just outside of Arkham. As a child, he was given up by his parents. The two of them being very superstitious saw their childs abilities and dropped him off at an orphanage. They were both Christians so it really scared them. They weren't good parents, obviously, there was definitely not any love there. Likely negligence. So maybe a blessing in disguise.

For a while he was fine until he had another accident, burning down his only home. They found him alone, the only survivor. Eerily clean of soot. On the way to being shipped to New York, a cult intercepted and took him away to live out on a farm inside their manor just outside of Arkham.

The cult raised him and poked and prodded at him. He went through several surgeries to put things inside him or change things. That's why he has the large vivisection scar. He felt conflicted. Part of him wanted his humanity, but greed, pride, and ego had consumed him in his position of power. Even though Mother (at the time the true leader of his cult) treated him otherwise. He was like a dog to her. Or lab rat.

Finally when it was time for the ritual it all worked out. There is no other version of Darling who survives the ritual, but he did it! There are other versions of him alive still, but none like him. With shub gone, and the cultists not fucking it all up, somehow Darling manages to survive it. The Moits of Shub are without a master, so the modifications are successful. The slugs instead latch to Darlings mind and inside his body and work with him, not against him. Their flesh changing to merge with Darlings to suit his own needs rather than to take over their host.

For a while, he assumed that while it didn't work, he was still just human. Until his body begins changing. He struggles to find his new form. Perhaps he doesn't have one. He tries to maintain his human form, but at times just begins to fall apart into a mass of tentacles and eyes.

This whole strange incident attracts Kayne. In a little side quest to his plans, he decides to start humoring Darling. Kayne is intrigued by a mortal becoming a Great Old One. (Kayne feels as if its more proof he can take Azathoths place.) Of course this sparks a connection between them and Kayne learns they're not so different from each other. As Kayne grows possessive over Darling, in return obsession festers in Darling. He can sense Kayne is much more powerful than him, and when he finally finds out what he is, it only grows. Now when Kayne has the time between torturing Arthur, he comes to visit Darling.

And I'm still pondering Threshold Darling because he misses his wife so much and becomes so emo. He probably wants to steal that jawbone soooo bad.

Two Darlings in the waylay because I'm evil like that. Jack doesn't go by Darling because he feel that he deserves freedom of that title in death. Sadie never grew up and hasn't developed an expression of her gender so she simply goes by that because it's all she's known.

Jack died during the ritual, and Sadie, the kid, died in the orphanage fire. Probably all thats left of Jack is a canker because the ritual was done improperly. And Sadie probably melted in the fire. :(

Taking a break between artfight attacks to draw more concept art of Darling's human form unraveling after the ritual. This might change I'm just trying things and seeing what works.
