Nostalgia In Pages

I decided to sit down and do some scanning today and like always after neglecting my scanner for a long period of time it turns what should be a simple and quick process into a total cluster f**k.

Does my laptop need to be updated? Nope. Drivers need updating? Nope. Turned it off and on again multiple times? Yup.

It's routine now.

Anyway, some scans coming today, but please be patient with me. I don't know how many more I will get to do before I rage quit for the day.

This criminally underrated coming of age story has been one of my favourites ever since I saw it when I was a young grade 8, coming across it in the new release section of the video shop.

This film was extremely relatable when I was in secondary school, struggling with feeling like an outsider, feeling unseen and misunderstood by my parents, and navigating peer pressure. Not to mention a lifetime of pet death.

In a weird way, this film kind of taught me that life is completely unfair and there is nothing you can do about it, so enjoy the moments that you can.

I was totally obsessed with the soundtrack and 'The Only One' producedby Paul Mac and sung by Bertie Blackman was one of my first iTunes purchases. When I was old enough to have an account on eBay, I bought the CD for myself as well as the DVD. I have treasured both of them dearly ever since. They were my gateway to becoming a fan of Bertie.

ONLY $99.90?! That is so freaking cheap! The craziest thing about flicking through old magazines is seeing the price of gigs and festivals back then.

Groovin The Moo has been suffering these last few years due to Covid and the cost of living leading to insufficient ticket sales. It's rather sad, really. The whole industry has been suffering so much and our government has done nothing to try to ease the suffering.

By 2011 I was fully into Triple J and listening to Australian and Aotearoa (NZ) artists. My favourites were Kate Miller-Heidke, Bertie Blackman, Ball Park Music, Sia, Kimbra and Megan Washington.

Triple J currently have their 'Hottest 100 of Australian Songs' poll going and let me tell you, I take this quite seriously. It is very hard to decide what songs are my favourites. I could go with what raised me during my childhood, what helped formed me during my teens, what vibes with me now and what I have grown to appreciate over time.

It feels like a hard ask to choose just 10, but there are 19 days left to vote and I need to make a decision.
