Maedeline had always played the perfect daughter and girlfriend. She was popular among her peers, a cheerleader, and had great grades. She kept her party life separate from her studies to avoid causing trouble for her parents. Maedeline did everything everyone wanted, even now. Mae finished her studies early last semester to be home with her parents. Going home for the semester was a painful experience. She returned this semester, hoping the party scene would bring her back to normal, but the death of a friend and watching her partner kiss someone else made her feel like her life was crumbling at her feet. This facade she had been keeping up was slowly unraveling.

 Although they were cities apart, they would always run into each other at parties during high school, exchanging small conversations, and wouldn’t see each other again until another party. When they met again in college, they shared similar classes. They decided to know each other better. She wouldn’t call them best friends, but confidants. They had conversations about life, relationships, and even themselves. Mae would only listen, but over time, she started sharing things about herself too.
