Proud AI hater 🔥
Autism is weird because what do you mean my brain has decided I must spend all my free time, energy, and money on a random tv show from the 90s
This is just a note to self that I have returned to the hellsite and any posts before this one are like, a bajillion years old XD
Sweet Dreams - Rora Blue
2020.
“Sweet Dreams explores the intricacies of everyday ableism and everyday ableist comments. Some of the comments recount dialogue said to the artist. Other phrases were submitted by other disabled and/or chronically ill individuals as documentation of comments that have been said to them. Through using recognizable objects associated with disability in correlation with playful colors, Sweet Dreams aims to reclaim objects commonly associated with pain and disrupt the narrative on what it means to be disabled.”

How is there not a prescribable equivalent to Gatorade?
I legitimately need it to even minimally function, as I know is the case for MOST of us POTSies. But I’m lucky if I’m able to spend $30 dollars a week on groceries, and about half of that is going toward Gatorade (sometimes more if I’m extra tachy, sometimes less if Gatorade is on sale). So, basically, I’m spending an average of $15 a week on a diet already restricted from gluten, dairy, meat, and potatoes (I do still eat potatoes, but I’m mildly intolerant, so they can’t come close to being the bulk of my diet). Plus, with other chronic illnesses, I’m not able to put a lot of effort into actually preparing food - meaning I generally have to go for canned beans instead of dried beans - you know, about the ONE place I could actually spread my money a little further.
So, I repeat… HOW IS THERE NOT A PRESCRIBABLE EQUIVALENT TO GATORADE?!
If you’re able to make your own, I can offer my recipe. If not, please disregard this response and I sincerely hope you’re able to find a solution that helps you. Gentle hugs if you like hugs.
Making my own is significantly cheaper per serving than buying Gatorade and has approximately the same concentrations of sodium and potassium as Gatorade, with less sugar. The biggest potential cost issue will be getting a food grade potassium source. I wanted to use monopotassium phosphate but couldn’t find it in food grade, so I got food grade dipotassium phosphate instead. Also I make a concentrated solution first then mix that into water, because my wrists can’t handle much shaking to dissolve everything and this way there’s no shaking involved.
Ingredients: 2 ¼ tsp Salt (Iodide-free) 1 tsp Baking Soda ½ tsp Dipotassium Phosphate (probably 1 tsp Monopotassium Phosphate) 1/8 cup Honey, to taste
To make Concentrate solution: In liquid measuring cup, dissolve salt, baking soda, and potassium phosphate with approximately ¼-½ cup boiling water. Stir until almost completely dissolved and bubbles have died down. Add honey, then fill to ¾ cup line with more boiling water. Stir thoroughly. Mixture may contain particulates that do not dissolve. Can store at room temperature at least two weeks. Makes 12 servings of 32 ounce (1 Liter) drinks.
To make drink: Mix 1 Tablespoon Concentrate with 32 ounces of water. Mix flavoring of choice to make more palatable (eg: fruit juice, Koolaid unsweetened powder). I usually add Concentrate and flavoring into my empty drinking bottle, then add water, and no mixing is required.
I’m reblogging this because Admin E is hecka sick and can’t find what she needs. And I figured it’s probably good info to pass around anyway right now.
If anyone has any other recipes for pedialyte or gatorade type drinks, please feel free to add on because I’m not sure everyone can get all ingredients.
