Went on a hike yesterday with one of my dear friends, and someone who felt the loss of our mutual friend as much, if not more, than I did.

I think more than anything we needed that time to reconnect, mourn our loss, get lost in some nature, and remember the little joys that she brought to our lives.

This moment, back in July of 2023, is forever etched in my mind as one of my favorite memories. I was at the beginning stages of some life altering events, feeling isolated, alone, and sad. I didn’t know what the future would look like.

And through it all, one of the best, kindest people I’ve ever known was there, providing her support, a lifeline of light in an increasingly dark space. That weekend she came up to visit some family and friends and we made a plan to hike Little Si with another friend, and the three of us made our way up, catching up, sharing stories, laughs, traumas, and hopes.

Miss you, R. More than words can say, I miss the joy you brought so effortlessly, an effervescent soul in a world desperately needing more of that.

I’ve been trying to find joy these last couple of weeks when it feels the darkest it’s been in some time.

Losing someone so close to you, who understood you on an intrinsic level with barely a word said, is a treasure and a friendship that doesn’t easily come by that often.
